Mission:
Mission 32: Tales of Tarod
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0800Hrs - April 13th, 2391
Teval walked into the Intel briefing room, carrying his rifle, saying," Ok Torenna, what is it you want from me."
Torenna looked at him, with a smile," Well, We are getting a new lead intel officer for our intel section, I figured since our section works with the deck crews so much, that you would be here as well."
Teval shrugged," Well, on the rare occasions that I actually do get to do the airboss job, seems like I have spent more time as XO than anything else."
Torenna looked at Teval's rifle, that was on the table," Been doing some target practice, or hav you just been assassinating people."
Teval took out a klingon cigar and lit it off," Whats the difference."
Torenna smiled," Well, damn, I cant say anything to that."
Norsvin Korr sat in the back of the room, cigarette in hand, saying," Ever been a field operative, Torenna."
Torenna shook her head," No, I've been a signals analyst pretty much my whole career."
Norsvin took a puff off his cigarette," Count yourself lucky."
Captain Kukai Moski walked in, followed by all the ships intel officers, asking," Ok, whats with the party."
Torenna answered," Well, the intel section is getting a new section leader, I figured he would want to meet all the people he would be working with closely anyway."
Kukai shrugged as she sat down, while Alexander Night, often considered the moron of the section, said to Torenna," Whats the matter Torenna, did you get fired for being a dumb bitch, Im sure you did."
Torenna shot Alexander a look, while Norsvin flicked his cigarette butt a Alexander," hey fuck head, watch your goddam mouth, your worthless ass is about to be on the chapter list soon, so don't talk about anyone being fired, Boy."
Alexander flipped Norsvin the bird, prompting him to grab Alexander by the back of the head, and slam his face into the table. Norsvin shook his head," You are a sucker for punishment, do I need to deliver you another ass beating."
Alexander just cradled his face while the other people in the room chuckled quietly. Norsvin sat back down and lit off another cigarette as Lieutenant Commander Horatio Drake walked in the room.
Horatio's first sign the room was occupied was the scent of cheap cigarette smoke followed by the sound of muffled laughter. This was likely what Shannon had been referring to. Stepping into the room he quickly took account of everyone in the room and where they were sitting. His eye briefly flitted over the rifle, subconsciously deciding to stand near it.
His ever present grin on his face he began, "I'm Commander Drake, the new Intel Chief as you've probably been informed. Let's start our introductions with Commander Vakar. Shall we sir?"
Teval shrugged, saying," Eh, don't have to worry about formalities with me, just call me Teval, most of the crew is pretty informal. Anyway, how much have you been briefed on what your section is doing."
Horatio didn't miss the fact Teval completely ignored his suggestion, "I would assume intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance like most shipboard intelligence. What I have been briefed is something completely different."
Teval shrugged," Eh, something to that effect. Basically we have six EWAC configured Delta Flyers, an intel person will be on each flight when they go on flight ops, which is why your section is a good bit larger than what it would be on most ships. You're section works with Captain Kukai Moski, whom is the squadron commander for the Flyer Squadron. Normally someone is up in the flight control tower with me, or whoever else is doing the airboss job at the time, usually my sister more often than not, since I frequently seem to get drafted for ships XO duty. Other than that however you want to run the section is up to you. Other than that we all pretty much know each other already, so this is more your party than mine."
Horatio wasn't ignorant of Teval's past though it didn't change the fact the unit was his and he didn't appreciate Teval telling him how to suck the egg, "I see. I'll take a look at the operating procedures and for now I will observe and make changes as needed."
Alexnder night rolled his eyes, having recovered from having his face mashed into the desk," Blah blah blah, just what I need, another loser superior," he muttered under his breath from the back of the room.
Teval, having heard every word with his feline hearing, just gave Alexander a nasty glare, then saying," You know, I have to wonder how some admin guy managed to screw up so badly as to let someone like you in starfleet, let alone as an intel officer."
Although Horatio didn't hear him he could tell from the body language, and Teval's reply, that what had been said could be construed as a disrespect, "I've worked with many people like that actually. I think they slip through to test our patience, if we kill them then we end up in the brig and not fit to lead."
Brushing the insult aside, though taking a mental note of it, he continued, "As for my qualifications. I have never served standard flight ops before, I never relished briefing fliers. I'm a signal's analyst by trade, instructor on the side and infiltration specialist as my night job. As Teval has alluded to I will need help with understanding flight ops; however, as your new chief my job is to allow you all to do yours. I won't get in your way so long as you get results."
Korr shrugged between puffs," Well, seeing as starfleet likes to assign us missions like, hauling in garbage and being the errand boys for admirals, its not like our expectations are very high."
Most of the rest of the people in the room either sighed or rolled eyes, prompting Teal to say," Well on a happy note though, Admiral Brooks got fired from being the commander of IFO, and the new commander is Admiral Jake Yamaguchi, and since his wife is our XO, we may be able to actually get missions that are worthwhile, and not missions like the last one."
Teval then looked at Drake, saying," Well, how you run your department is up to you, I don't like to micromanage anyway, but otherwise aside from the random imbecile like night, most of us are all real laid back, we got a minibar up in the tower, and either me or my sister make sure that the pilots don't give your guys too much grief."
"I have a few bottles I can donate to your cause," Horatio grinned, "If I'm going to be in that tower it's going to have a good bourbon or scotch."
Seeing as he needed to make some presence, not mentioning he just wanted to, he pulled a Gurkha cigar from a metal case and lobbed off the tip with a karambit. Pulling out a worn zippo he touched the flame to the tip of the cigar, "I think that's good enough for introductions. If you assholes need anything else I'll be in my office," The lighter snapped shut, "Uncrating my trophies."
With that Horatio walked out the door with a good idea who he'd be dealing with. This would be a fun assignment, the only trouble would be to make it out without having to meet with a Court Martial on homicide charges.
