Siaxx Dvald had heard the screaming sound of a Federation Starfighter as she looked up, right as a Valkyrie class fighter shot past overhead.
"At last.. there is hope.. afterall." the small Bolian smiled as she gently patted the Massive Orobird's head, just behind its right ear. "Feel like going for a look-see Halftalon?"
The Bird responded with a loud 'Caww' as Siaxx looked down at Saki, who was seated in front of Siaxx, also who was holding on tightly to the saddle. "I'm going to drop you off at home.."
"No... I wanna come with you."
Siaxx regarded the small child. "If anything happens to you... you're mother will never forgive me for it.."
"I'm Sorry... but I want to come with you."
"Alright... but you best pay attention and do as you're told... I mean it this time Saki... Last time you got lucky, we almost lost you to an Ororbird predator." Siaxx sighed as she regarded the five year old child in her care.
"I will." Saki responded quietly, as she touched her bow and the small quiver of arrows that various members of their little group had taught her how to use.
"Alright." Siaxx turned the Orobird around and she set off after the Federation fighter, several minutes later they located the Valkyrie, it had landed in a small field.
Siaxx dismounted from Broken Talon as she drew her spear. "Saki... keep your eyes peeled." the small child prepared her bow with an arrow, Siaxx slowly advanced towards the fighter as she heard a sound, Saki turned and let loose her arrow in response.
Taffy was outside her craft inspecting the damage to her fighter. Her antennae started to twitch as she could feel something coming in fast. Taffy dove under the hull as she heard something hit it.
"For the love of the Gods!" Taffy said out loud in frustration. "What else could happen?"
Siaxx looked at Saki. "Hold.." she hissed. "Pilot... Who are you... Dvald, one one seven, Juliet Bravo. Identify yourself!" Siaxx called in English.
"Don't shoot!" Taffy yelled. "I'm Warrant Officer Ryi Amlari of the USS Roanoke." Taffy yelled while still hidden under the hull.
Siaxx sighed. "Roanoke?" she called back as she advanced towards the fighter. "They looking for us?" she approached the fighter as she spotted the Andorian who was crouched nearby. "I'm Siaxx Dvald... USS Roanoke."
The child approached as well. "Hello." she then lowered her bow as she quickly slipped her arrow away.
Taffy looked a little confused. "Hi there. Yes we are looking for you." Taffy told Siaxx. "I sent a distress signal before I came in."
Siaxx nodded. "We have no power.... we wouldn't have heard it... but Maybe Roanoke did..." she responded as the five year old child approached "I'm Saki Yamaguchi." the child responded in a soft voice.
Taffy looked at the little girl and smiled. "Captain Tane never said anything about a child aboard. Where did you pick her up at?" Taffy asked. "And where did you find your mount? Where you planning on bringing that back aboard the Roanoke?"
Siaxx regarded the Andorian. "Taffy." she addressed the other pilot. "I picked her up from her mother." she responded. "and she's not mine.. I assume you ran out of fuel..?"
Taffy was still shaken up from the crash and still not entirely lucid. "Um, yeah. The bird lost all of her fuel in a flash."
Siaxx raised an eyebrow. "You're not adjusted for the time dilation difference." she explained. "Time inside the anomaly moves ninety six times faster then it does outside... Rachael was five months along when she entered... Saki is her daughter... we've been in here for four and a half years.
Taffy stood there dumbstruck. "I'm sorry...I'm not sure I understand." Taffy looked at the rough look of Siaxx and this unknown child. Taffy could not wrap her head around what was happening.
"Our base camp is a couple of clicks back that way.."
"Please lead the way." Taffy responded in an almost zombie like voice. Ever thing was so odd to her.
Saki heard it first, as she turned she loosed one arrow as a small ambush predator fell over, clearly dead. "Can you move that fighter?" she inquired.
Taffy took a second to respond as she wasn't ready for the child's question. "Oh...um...yeah, sure." she mumbled. "Well...I can't move it very far or fast." Taffy corrected herself.
Siaxx nodded. "Alright... go ahead and make your way over to the base camp... you'll see a downed Runabout, try and set down next to it if you can. We will meet you there."
"Alright." Taffy told Siaxx. Taffy didn't like splitting up again but did what she was told. Taffy returned to the fighter. She turned the engines on and carefully flew the bird. It wasn't long before she spotted the wrecked runabout. Gingerly, she put the fighter down.
Rachael Yamaguchi approached as she regarded the Valkyrie class Fighter. "I wonder... where did you come from?" she looked over the markings around the cockpit area. 'Master Warrant Officer Ryi 'Taffy' Amlari - USS Roanoke"
Rachael waved to catch the eye of the pilot as she indicated it was indeed safe to put the fighter down then she waited until the pilot emerged. "Yo." she greeted the pilot. "Welcome to our corner of hell." Rachael gently helped Taffy so the Andorian could steady herself. "Easy... you've had a rough day..." she commented with a smile.
Taffy clumsily climbed out of the fighter. "Thank you." She told the pretty young woman. "I'm sorry, I don't recognize you."
"I'm Cadet Rachael Yamaguchi... granted I grew up a bit since we last saw you... Teval, Hakaya, Aerin and Karryn are all sleeping at the present time... their kids are with them... and I'm on watch at the present time..." Rachael explained as she heard the sound of an Orobird.
She lifted her spear as she spotted Siaxx and Saki coming into camp, Siaxx dismounted and she tied Halftalon up to his pedestal before she came over to Taffy. "We'll need to get you some accommodations set up in the cave... fortunately. we have plenty of space.."
Teval looked at the new arrival, saying," Oh hey, another one came down, you are only a year or so behind Leadfoot and Moni Nasao.
Rachael turned. "Oh hey Teval, Taffy here has just discovered the anomaly the hard way..." she paused. "wouldn't you have a wingmate?"
"Yes, I had one." Taffy told Rachael. "There was a lot of interference and I lost contact with her. I'm assuming she returned to the Roanoke." Taffy told them. She left out the part where Perry was a miserable excuse for a pilot and was probably dead. Taffy didn't need the death of her wingman on her head right now.
Rachael nodded. "We heard about the Geomagnetic storm presently raging... we have some limited capability thanks to solar power for the Runabout... but she'll never got off of the deck again..."
"I ran out of fuel." Taffy told them with a little bit of consternation. Taffy starred at Rachael in disbelief. "You were only gone a few days."
Rachael chuckled. "Come on... lets get you some accommodations.... What we have is a wee bit Spartan but it's comfortable, after you adjust for the fact that we're back in the Stone age.."
"Stone age?" Taffy said, still a bit overwhelmed from all that happened. "What about the runabout's replicator?"
"It works... but once every few days... we don't have enough power.." she paused. "and we don't have any Engineers around either.. Well. asides from Aerin and Karryn.." Rachael commented. "But those guys are
busy most days."
At that moment, Takov Patkuri, whom was curled up on the cave sleeping, got pounced upon by Nuyari and Savo, and the tree of them began to play wrestle in the corner, while Hakaya's two kids, Kiyuo and Yavi, simply watched.
Rachael regarded the five year old who came over to her mother in silence. "I see you met Saki." she said to Taffy.
"Yes, she is very cute." Taffy told Rachael. Taffy was still trying to bend her mind around the concept of time distortion. Taffy figured out that Saki was Rachael's offspring. Accepting it was a little more difficult.
Rachael tuned to Teval. "Do you know where Moni Nasao and Leadfoot got off to?"
"I have no idea," Teval shrugged, as Takov ran by him, with Nuyari chasing. As Nuyari ran by, He promptly grabbed her and picked her up, cradling the little kurokuri in his arms, saying," Nothing matches the cuteness of this little one though." He cuddled with Nuyari, prompting her to purr in response.
Rachael smiled. "Tell me about it." the teen responded as she regarded Teval. "Well... I'd best find Taffy here a place for herself... is anyone using that small alcove in the back?" she inquired. "Taffy did you bring any phasers with extra power packs?."
"I have my phasor carbine." Taffy told Rachael. "I only have a couple of power packs. I wasn't expecting to get into a firefight. Do you need them that often?"
"We only use phasers these days for tunneling new rooms out of the mountain." she explained. "Even then we're still careful as .... well it kinda stinks. All that vaporized rock.."
"Oh, so it is safe here?" Taffy asked.
"Nope." Rachael responded bluntly. "We're had a dozen near misses, Saki nearly got killed and we lost Petty Officer Saki Kishimoto. She died saving me... my daughter is named for her."
"Oh, I liked her." Taffy said with a somber voice. "I'm going to be stuck on this rock forever."
"Taffy... Taffy." Rachael gently shook the other woman to snap her out of her reverie. "Look at me.. its vital that you understand how dangerous this place is... otherwise you'll be dead inside a week." Rachael explained. "We've been able to survive but that was a result of everyone pulling together to survive... its us versus this planet... and the planet is winning.." she sighed. "We'll need to go over what you have in your fighter cargo bay if you have anything at all.... please tell me you have something?"
Taffy had a hard time concentrating. "I have some survival supplies but those are for an emergency. I have some candy and stuff." Taffy had trouble describing things to Rachael. "Why don't you look in the fighter yourself?" Taffy asked.
"Alright... But I'm gonna need your help... the fighter is still yours after all." Rachael regarded the Andorian with a smile. "after that.. we need to get you somewhere to sleep.. then we can put you to work tomorrow.. Life here isn't all bad.... its just a lot slower then we're normally used to..."
"We'll go through the fighter tomorrow." Taffy told her. "I'll be thinking more clearly then."
"Alright... then lets get you a place to sleep.." and with that, Rachael turned and led the Andorian into the cave. "This way.."
