Mission:
Mission 17: The Drug-Dimmed Tide
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 2330Hrs - December 12th, 2390
Rachael Yamaguchi was sitting on the decking next to her simulator as she was sitting back with her eyes closed. "Its not bad in here after hours.... its not so bad..." she commented.
"NO. It's not bad at all," Phoenix admitted with a huge smile.
Both women were interrupted by the sounds of metal grinding on metal as a massive being dropped into the hanger. "Come 'ere." the being growled as he came over towards Rachael who suddenly became alert "Who are you?"
"I am Toshnarr.." the massive being rumbled. "I have lunch." and with that, he pulled a crate over to him as he opened it, to reveal three dozen more voles as he tossed in the half dozen voles, he yanked one out before tossing one up in the air as he began eating.
Rachael winced. "Eww..."
Phoenix could only flinch at the nasty voles. And she had to wonder about the lizard's sanity too.
Toshnarr growled as he demolished one and then a second. "Want one?" he offered a hunk of flesh to Rachael who winced. "Errr.. no.." she whimpered. "it looks... disgusting.." she turned to Phoenix. "I think I just lost my appetite.."
"You're supposed ta eat what's offered to ya, among many cultures," Phoenix winked to Rachael.
Rachael couldn't bring herself to do it. "Err... No... I'm Sorry Toshnarr... I don't wanna deny you your dinner.."
"Mmm... you are honest..." and with that he tossed it up and snatched it out of the air.
"You look like a very talented hunter," Phoenix commented the massive lizard.
Toshnarr rumbled something between bites as he dropped a few small bones onto what Rachael assumed was a pile of garbage but she quickly realized was a pile of bones. "Oh wow..." she regarded the pile. "Toshnarr... how many have you killed..?"
"Sixty four..." came the answer. "I've never eaten so good.... honestly... Vole is so tasty..."
"Do they have a good-sized nest? Or did you get 'em?" Phoenix asked him.
"I know there are more..." Toshnarr commented. "There are One hundred and six in all.... I've grabbed about ninety four thus far Phoenix." he answered slowly. "I'll admit... this hunt has been thrilling... I've never eaten so well..." he smiled. "All I need now is my mate and life would be perfect... asides from the fact its forty degrees too cold aboard this ship."
Rachael looked at him. "I'm Sorry Chief..."
"Don't apologize for something that's not your fault young one... I heard you are a highly skilled pilot, commendable for one your age.."
"She is every much the pilot her dad is," Phoenix commented proudly.
Rachael grinned despite the weight of recent events dragging her down, she looked at Phoenix, pain in her eyes. "you;re too kind Jill.."
she whispered.
Toshnarr regarded Phoenix and then over to Rachael. "The pilot who attacked you is dead... yes?"
Rachael nodded her head in a jerky motion, clearly the teen still had issues with it. "Yes..."
"Good... it ain't right what happened..." he growled softly. "I would have liked to feast on him... but he would have made a foul meal."
"Humans are considered the most dangerous meat ta ingest," Phoenix agreed.
Toshnarr nodded. "So I've heard.." he rumbled as he devoured another Vole.
"So who taught you to hunt Toshnarr?" Phoenix asked, if only because they had nothing else to do.
"My mother taught me and my siblings to hunt from a young age." he rumbled. "I miss her... and my family... Mother was a very dangerous opponent, she taught me everything..." he commented as he tossed a live Vole into the air, he snapped out of out the air with his teeth, the Vole gave a little cry as its life expired..
Rachael watched, unable to tear her eyes away but unable to stomach the idea of eating live prey. "Eww..." she whispered.
Hakaya and Varkon where wandering around the hangar, rounding up anyone whom was high, when they noticed Toshnarr eating the voles with Rachael and phoenix watching. Hakaya could tell that Toshnarr was high as a kite. "Well, there goes our vole problem," Hakaya commented.
Toshnarr grunted as he feasted on another vole.
Rachael raised an eyebrow. "How do you eat those?"
"Simple young one... I bite, chew and swallow... they aren't bad in taste... different.. but not bad."
"Well I think it's good ya hunt those things," Phoenix commented, though her throat felt dry. She longed for a drink in a bad way.
Toshnarr smiled as he continued to eat his meal before placing the lid on the crate and then he began modifying it before he slung it over his back almost as a pack so he could haul his captured prey home.
