Mission:
Mission 10: Holding on and Letting Go
Location: Various Locations - Starbase 400
Timeline: 1230Hrs - September 19th, 2389
Lieutenant Tom Lasky as he was starting to think of himself again, dammed that woman was nothing if not persistent but then he saw something in Tressa that he liked and so he decided it was time to restore his wings and flight status.
He walked into the starfighter command spaces as he looked at the Major's yeoman, the lady who guarded the gates of heaven so to speak. "Hey... is the Major about?"
"She's in her office, presently doing paperwork... can I help you?" the trim smiley woman responded.
"Good... can I see her?" Fives inquired. "My name is Tom Lasky." he commented. "the Major will know me as 'Fives.'
"Alright Lieutenant. let me check" and with that Ensign Greenwood tapped the com. "Major. There is a Lieutenant Fives here to see you...?"
"It's just Fives, Ensign," Phoenix stated as she studied several of her pilots' flight logs. "Send him in."
Ensign Greenwood nodded as she indicated the door. "Aye Major." she commented. "As you heard.. the Major will see you now."
"Thank you." and with that Fives went into the Majors office. "Major. I'd like to make a request to transfer over to Starfighter Command." he produced a PADD. "My flight record from my first career in Starfleet."
Phoenix paused the current flight log and turned in her chair to face Fives. Then is a nod, she loaded his PADD to her desktop and began to analyze. In all fairness, his record was probably cleaner than hers, since Phoenix had landed several severely damaged birds during the war.
"Hypothetically speakin'," Phoenix began as she continued to look over his flying record, along with his ordinance hit percentage. "...Let's say I decide to let you into the wing. The only one you would barely rate to fly would be the Valkyrie at this point. Anythin' newer would not be wise, until you've had close to a thousand simulator hours."
"Sir... I would actually not be qualified to fly the Valkyrie since I only flew her twice before walking away back in seventy six." he explained. "I would need to train back up to my skill level that I had before."
"Last I spoke to ya, you weren't into flyin' much," Phoenix noted as she looked back at him. "What's changed?"
"Tressa Brislan." he answered with a wry smile. "she felt it was time for me to reclaim my humanity and my legacy." he commented. "she feels I should stop running from who I was and become the man I used to be.... and maybe she's right."
"I'll green light the transfer, an' suggest your pay grade be downgraded ta First Lieutenant then," Phoenix finally answered as she began to put her authorization on his transfer request. "You'll be listed as a reserve pilot an' you'll be expected to train in over five hundred hours of simulator time on the craft you want."
Technically... Phoenix should not of given him a choice of fighter. But rather assigned him his craft based on his basic flight performance scores. But since he would have to retrain anyway, she decided to let him pick the craft.
"I should add... Scorpions are not aboard yet, an' you will have to master another before I even feel right with putting you in one of them," Phoenix added as an afterthought.
"I'll start with Valkyries then and Peregrines if you have them." he responded. "I'll split the rest of the training between them all." he added. "Scorpions however... I'll do last... if you approve" he commented.
"I'll have the quartermaster run a flight suit to you. An' you'll have the operational flight manual of the Valkyrie in your mail for download to any PADD - which you'll have on you at all times," Phoenix said, then handed him a PADD with her stamp of approval. "Since you're in trainin' you'll want ta strength train for six-gee turns. I'll test ya in thirty days to see if you can handle it."
Fives smiled as he accepted the PADD from her. "Thank you sir. I'll start training in the morning after I get myself squared away with the Valkyries systems." he commented.
"I aint assignin' ya a plane just yet. You'll fly reel since ya know ship systems, until you're combat ready," Phoenix noted very respectfully. "You get a few successful real-time trainin' dogfights in ya, then we'll talk about your own plane. Fair enough?"
"More then fair sir." Fives responded. "I'd like to train on all of your birds... so I can fly anything in inventory." he paused. "it'll take time but it will be done." as he made a mental note that he would need to spend a lot of time in the gym.
"You'll reel for me then, in my Scorpion, once it comes in," Phoenix declared. "I rarely am up before eight-hundred because I don' like coming in hungover so you'll have a lot of free time to govern yourself with... I suggest that's simulator hours and PT. Because our CAP time is around sixteen hundred hours an' is cut short to eighteen hundred hours every day - given my admin duties."
Fives nodded. "I'll split the time between both with lunch to book end them." he commented evenly. "still leaving me time to get to know Tressa.. I can't argue with that." he smiled at the woman standing before him. "When do I start sir?"
"You can have my simulator time," Phoenix shrugged. "It's in forty minutes. Beyond that, I'll list you as priority. You can even use the Junior Flight Cadet's simulators if our simulator room is full."
Fives nodded. "Thank you sir. I'll look over the specs and go see the quartermaster right now then. Unless you have more for me sir?"
"It's just Phoenix. I don' like military protocol much," the CAG insisted. "I also don' have anythin' else to discuss so you can go, Fives."
Fives nodded. "Okay Phoenix. I can handle that.."
