Division Admiral Thomas Lasky smiled as he rose to his feet. He was now of watch. "Another day consigned to the trash heap." he exited his office as he regarded his aide. "Have we not heard the chimes of midnight?" he asked.
"Every day sir." came the expected response.
Thats when a voice from his past interrupted him. Lasky turned his head slowly. "Well. Mistress, what cheer?."
Uh, Tom Lasky, is that you," Wukari asked, not having seen him in a while.
Lasky shook his head. "Nope. It's not me," he answered. "I am a figment of your imagination," he added. "Walk with me and you can regail ma with your exploits of whatever you have been doing of late.?"
Wukari ignored the joke, instead saying, "Well to be honest, I haven't done a whole lot over the last year. Things have been, rather quiet, even boring for me. Especially compared to the days on the original Roanoke."
Lasky smiled. "What can I say... Life with the kids is nothing but interesting. Rachael and Emile have taught me much."
"Yeah I know, I have my own two to worry about," Wukari added softly, " Young kits can be quite energetic, and they like to chew on things too."
"Babies can be demanding." Lasky grinned at her. "They drive me insane. But I love it. Plus I got Plataea... I really got the forbidden fruit... Torilla's twin."
"Platea," Wukari thought on the name for a moment, "I don't know her all that much."
"She's Torilla's twin." Lasky commented. "Lets just say she helped me with Kurt and his various issues. He was the one that brought us together. Plataea needed space and time to figure out what she wanted. Kurt was happy to keep her attention while she was living with me. I did not mind, she was an excellent houseguest."
"So what happened with you after Roanoke anyway," Wukari asked, " you did leave rather suddenly. and how did you become a division admiral so fast."
"I'll answer those in reverse order." Lasky paused. "My paperwork was filed wrong. I walked at the end of the Dominion War as a commander. I was offered my own command. I refused and retired. Citing that I had done my part. When I came back six years later, my paperwork said I was an Ensign. I got stuck in a protest but nothing came of it." he then shrugged. "I was offered my own command later after I left Roanoke. I took it, especially after Teval said," he commented. "I wanted somewhere where I could make my mark on things... I didn't expect it to come from left field with Torilla's long-lost sibling."
Wukari looked a little confused, "Wait, long lost sibling. I heard from Teval she was an alternate reality version of torilla?"
"Calling her a long-lost sibling is easier than telling everyone she's from another universe. Teval's information is accurate. Though I wish he had not shared that little detail so easily." he then sighed. "Nobody asks stupid questions when you say its a lost sibling rather then a possible imposter." he clarified.
"Except for when it comes to us, where we can literally smell the difference," Wukari pointed out. "You forget, we dont perceive the universe around us the same way you do. My nose can tell the difference between twins and a carbon copy clone from another universe or a transporter."
Lasky regarded Wukari. "Yes. I know," he answered. "But people tend to fear beings from different universes for whatever reason. So The lost sibling story was the one I tell people so they don't lose their minds," he explained.
"Yeah I never really got the big deal behind that," Wukari admitted.
"It has to do with everything relating to one quantum reality that's the mirror of this one." he rolled his eyes. "Its an attitude that's overly simplistic and they think we're superior because we're not an evil version of the prime reality." he sighed.
"Alternate reality and temporal mechanics make my brain hurt," Wukari replied dryly. "But if i remember right, Plataea wasn't the only one to come form there."
"Nope. But people don't trust her because shes a psionic. They worry she will strangle someone from across the room. Despite the fact that I've never once seen her get angry or even raise her voice. At anyone. Like ever. She's much cooler and calmer then I am on most days." he sighed. "Yet they all trust me and fear her."
Wukari then remembered one of the telepathic incidents that Plataea was the center of, "Well, there was that one incident where Nalla grabbed her and she ended up acting like a telepathic transmitter, making everyone within range super horny. Though to be fair, that wasn't really her fault.
"I remember quite well." Lasky smiled. "I tried dismissing that event from my brain. With varying degrees of success." he sighed. "Fortunately, I know Elizabeth doesn't have those issues."
"We had more than a few of those crazy incidents on Roanoke.' Wuykari replied dryly. "On one hand, it was very frustrating, but on the other hand, it meant that the assignment was not dull."
"Oh, I would call that assignment many things. Dull is not among them." Lasky answered with a sigh.
"Yeah no doubt," Wukari replied dryly.
