Mission:
Mission 115: The Pale-Fac'd Moon looks Bloody on the Earth
Location: Various Locations - USS Grey Wolf
Timeline: 1300Hrs - November 13th, 2393
Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi regarded her full-blooded sibling. Commodore Korelii MacRae, who was seated across from her. The two were comparing notes for the Starfleet investigation into what happened and what either crew had done wrong. Both women knew that they had failed to secure peace with Halana. What was worse was that the expenses in saving the Halanan species had seen almost all of the resources being misappropriated for other reasons. Since the Halanan government had been caught red-handed. They had chosen the path of war and that of the victim to the wider galaxy. Citing the criminal conduct of the Federation and their crimes in prolonging the Halanan issues.
Thus far, not many other worlds had an opportunity to even ask questions. Before the Halanan government decided they would secede from the Federation and then declare war, both at the same time. All of this within hours of each other. Yamaguchi knew it was to avoid anyone taking any notice of what the Halanan's had accused the Federation council of having committed. She knew it wouldn't last and sooner or later when cooler heads prevailed, the Halanans would come to the table.
Meanwhile, however, there were other issues to be resolved first. As both women had submitted their respective reports to both of their chains of command. The questions had been long and interesting. Vaxx-Warfield and Emerson had both inquired with both women about matters. None of the Federation vessels had returned fire, even when the Grey Wolf had been fired upon. The only thing they did was to raise their shields before the missiles had been fired and then they withdrew a couple of moments later.
Emerson had passed along his own report in addition to Yamaguchi and MacRae's reports. According to the rules of engagement he had laid down, both of his Captains had done everything right. He had told both ship Captains to remain at the rendezvous point, pending further orders. Both women had been waiting more or less for almost thirty hours.
MacRae regarded Yamaguchi. "You ever wonder if we're in the wrong job?"
"Nah. We're fine. They will just pick our report to death, looking for any excuses but we did everything right. According to the rules we were given, we did it right. Commander Tienn was a lot more patient than most other skippers I know, Jake and myself included." she explained. "She only ordered a yellow alert because of the oncoming ships. She did everything right and my report will reflect that."
"I'm not questioning you or your first officer. Commander Tienn will make a fine Captain of her own ship and I intend to recommend her promotion. Unless you wish to object.?" McRae answered, a gentle smile playing on her lips.
"Not in the slightest." Yamaguchi smiled back. "Kerris will be a fine Captain, she's thoughtful and considerate. Plus she's worked dammed hard to get here. I intended for her to get a taste of command. Thus far... I am quite pleased with the results of my experiment."
"Wait, you wanted someone who was inexperienced in command as your first officer?" MacRae inquired, she sounded really suprised by the statement from her sibling. "You'll forgive me for sounding suprised, but I really didn't see that one coming," she commented.
"I did," Yamaguchi answered. "I wanted someone who was older but inexperienced. Someone who could hear me out and then argue the point with me. I wanted a parent, like myself who ordinarily wouldn't have gotten a chance to have any consideration for a command of his or her own." Yamaguchi explained with a gentle smile on her lips. "Up to this point. I am very pleased with the performance of my first officer, she's only lacking in experience which she will gain in time." Yamaguchi then grinned at the other woman. "Besides, it could have been far worse... Had I not died escorting that convoy to Goranar... I would have been commanding the USS Tiger's Claw instead and Javier Morales would be commanding this ship." Yamaguchi added, a wide smile on her face.
"I recall that event." Korelii paused. "It broke my heart. When I heard you died... I only just got you back in my life and then you were killed." MacRae paused a moment. "I wanted to kill every last Klingon in this universe for that. Then I heard you were back from the dead." MacRae paused. "I confess, I had no idea of what to think," she admitted.
"I'm sorry," Yamaguchi answered quietly. "My own family nearly came apart over it. Elizabeth was inconsolable, Rachael was not much better and then there was Gabe... Let's not discuss him." Yamaguchi sighed softly.
"That bad, huh?" MacRae inquired softly.
"Yeah," Yamaguchi answered when she was suddenly interrupted by the beep of the com system. "Bridge to Yamaguchi. Captain, you have an incoming hail. It's on secure channel three. It's Fleet Admiral Rae Sloane."
Yamaguchi and MacRae shared a look. "Okay," she commented as Yamaguchi nodded. "We'll take it in here El-Tee." and with that. Yamaguchi tapped the display before her once.
