Mission 116: All Along the Watchtowers - Part One
Location: Various Locations - USS Canterbury
Timeline: 1900Hrs, December 20th, 2393
Commander Robert Antilles came to a halt at the entrance to holodeck two. He knew that Naomi was located within and he wanted to inform her personally that dinner was ready. He felt strange collecting a wayward child but he knew that Naomi was not the average child and nor was she the type to spend her time frivolously. He tapped the button that he knew would send a request to his daughter. Robbie would not violate his daughter's privacy. If she didn't want him present, then she would at least tell him. The doors opened as Robbie entered the holosuite. He smiled as he admired the woodland setting present.
"Oh, I see what you're doing Naomi," Robbie commented aloud as he stepped forward. Walking down the path towards the sound of rushing water. He found himself walking around a fifteen-foot waterfall. He found his daughter standing with one leg and foot curled up and her arms outstretched. She was also wearing a simple black one-piece bathing suit.
Naomi smiled as she regarded her father while he approached her. She ceased her present stance as she pressed her fist into her hand before she bowed to him, still holding her hands together.
Robbie repeated the gesture as he returned her bow. "Naomi. I wanted to let you know that dinner will be in ten minutes and your mother has requested your presence at the table," he commented with a gentle smile.
"Thanks, Dad," Naomi answered, a gentle smile on her face. "Computer, freeze program." and with that, the flow of water slowed to nothing. Robbie smiled as he regarded his daughter. "Your control is improving," he commented. "Your ready," he commented.
"Discipline takes time to master," Naomi commented. "Duncan agrees with me. Connor doesn't enjoy standing around, clearing one's mind. Mom doesn't either." she commented with a gentle smile on her lips. "Mom does try this but she..." the teen paused a moment. "Umm... How do I say this nicely?" she asked of her father.
"Either be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate." Robbie reminded his daughter. "Your mom doesn't enjoy getting soaked while trying to stand on one leg," he added for explanation. "She hates it, it doesn't help that she sucks at it," he added.
"Everyone has to go their own way, Dad," Naomi answered. "I spend my time meditating and learning this because it suits me to learn it. It helps me with my various problems and issues. There are men on the ship who want me. Classes in school want me to do extra work for extra credit." she sighed softly. "I keep trying to tell them no but everyone wants me for extra-curricular things. Mostly stuff I'll never need again once I leave school."
Robbie picked up his daughter's bag, he then handed it to her as he took a step back. This was her domain and he made sure she knew it. Naomi smiled as she pulled out a large beach towel, which she had replicated for herself a week ago. She then draped it over her shoulders. "This kind of meditation helps me to think. To focus on what's important." Naomi explained to her father. "I love it," she added.
"Success isn't always about greatness. It's about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come in time." Robbie reminded his daughter. "Anyway. I'll leave you in peace so you can change. As I said, dinner will be on the table when you get home kay?"
"I'll be right along dad." Naomi smiled at her father. She watched him call for the exit and when he departed. She waited for the door to close before she began peeling off her suit. She then began drying herself off and then donning her clothing. On went her underwear and then the rest of her clothing. "Computer. File and clear." Naomi ordered before she called for the exit and departed the now empty holodeck.
Robbie was waiting for his daughter. He smiled as he regarded her. "You mentioned you were having guy issues. Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Do what you do best, dad," Naomi responded. "I have it well in hand but it's always nice to know that you are in my corner."
Robbie nodded his head as his smile faded away slowly. "Just remember what I taught you. Do not be afraid to use force in case buddy gets a little too liberal with you," he commented. "Besides, I've always been in your corner since the day you were born. I've been there and I'll always be there."
Naomi smiled. "Thanks, dad."
Robbie gently gave his daughter a quick hug. "Come on, honey. Your mom is waiting for you," he added. The two walked off down the hall in silence, content in each other's company.
