Mission:
Mission 108: Grains of Sand
Location: Various Locations - USS Infinity
Timeline: 1400Hrs - October 21st, 2393
Commodore T'Shaamet knew that the time of her doom was at hand when the com system beeped at her. "Com centre to the ... Commodore. Sir, I have Admiral Shepard on secured channel five for you."
T'Shaamet raised an eyebrow in a very Vulcan-like manner. She noted the momentary pause in regards to the hesitation about her rank. "Go ahead?" the small-framed Vulcan woman answered. "I'll take it in here." and with that, she rose to her feet while she moved over to the large wall monitor where she prefered to take her various calls. The Vulcan tapped the display once before she settled into her usual commanding pose, hands held behind her back as she looked up at the display, her small stature was a pain for her to deal with at times.
She regarded the face of Division Admiral Kimora Shepard when the other woman's face appeared on the display before her. "Admiral, what can I do for you?"
"I know you are rather attracted to your ship and to your crew T'Shaamet. So I will come to the point. You are taking over as my Executive officer and I know this will place rather significant burdens upon you in the days and weeks to come... The administration duties will be a pain and as you have young children in the house. I will require you to step down from command of the USS Infinity and pass her over to another commander."
"I see." the Vulcan female answered in a deadpan tone of voice. "I understand," she added.
"I have several candidates lined up for you...Do you want to go over them now?" Shepard inquired.
"Yes, Admiral Now will suffice," T'Shaamet answered. "There is no need to drag out this matter any more than we already have..." she added as the Vulcan woman knew that this conversation had been coming, she was just unsure as to when. It seemed that now would be the time.
Shepard nodded her head as she lifted a PADD that she had been holding in her fingers. "I have Aldrin Jameson."
"No," T'Shaamet answered. "He's too new. He's only held the rank of Captain for two years," she explained.
"So you would prefer someone who is more experianced?"
"I would. Yes." T'Shaamet answered. "Whoever takes command of this ship will have to oversee her decommissioning next year. I wish to make sure they won't take such an assignment poorly, The young and inexperienced tend to do so."
Shepard nodded, she did agree with the small-framed Vulcan woman before her. "Well. that narrows it down to three..."
T'Shaamet regarded Shepard in silence for a moment. "Those are?"
"Travis Yeager. Rachael Yamaguchi Senior and Andrea Santoro..." she explained.
"Travis Yeager is not a bad choice. Then there is Jake Yamaguchi's mother... a rather odd choice and I don't know Andrea Santoro. Remove the last one from contention. Let's focus on these last two." she paused. "This new skipper has to understand that they are acting as a caretaker to an already drastically changed crew... Most lose one or two. I've lost seven so far and three people are in different positions. I have an almost totally new crew and now I'm about to tell them to expect a new skipper... I do not need a hard ass with these people. I want a gentle soul who can share in their adventures and not a formal type."
"Makes sense. Travis Yeager definitely is the type you want then." Shepard commented. "Talented, gentle and able to get results... You've heard of his brothers Julian and Davijaan... Travis is just like them."
"Sounds good. What about Rachael Yamaguchi?" T'Shaamet asked.
"She said she wanted to earn a command the proper way and not because of the fact she used to be a Borg drone." Shepard paused. "I told her to discuss the matter with Tom Lasky," she commented. "What say you?"
"I'll go with Travis Yeager. If he's anything remotely like Davijaan Yeager, then this ship and her crew will be in excellent hands." T'Shaamet answered with a gentle smile.
"Alright. I'll contact him and let him know. Thank you T'Shaamet... I'll let you get back to work." the other woman smiled. "Shepard out." and with that, the screen went black, freeing T'Shaamet from this conversation. She went back to her desk as she mentally thought of calling her husband in here but she decided not to. He wasn't far and the two would be going off watch soon enough. The thought made her smile.
