Mission:
Mission 60: Atlas Falls
Location: Commanding Officer's Quarters - Starbase 82
Timeline: 2000Hrs - April 10th, 2392
John Yamaguchi smiled as he was sitting down to read a book when suddenly the com system beeped at them. "Admiral. This is Lieutenant Yael Dolan in Operations. You have a message marked as personal for you. Its from Starbase 12. Admiral Yamaguchi would like a word with you."
Yamaguchi pictured Yael Dolan, seated at her console, her swarthy complexion, highlighting the differences between her and her uniforms colors. John turned while he regarded his wife who was nearby. "Stand by." as he rose to his feet before moving out into the main living area to see why his niece wanted his time and attention.
John tapped the large wall monitor, an image of the great seal of the Federation appeared before the two of them. "Route it down here." John commented before the face of his niece appeared.
"Hey April... Whats up?" John knew that April Yamaguchi would not be bugging him unless this was important, even if she outranked him.
"Hey Uncle John.. Aunt Jessica... I just got done sharing this with the rest of the family.. and now I'm sharing it with you... Mom's alive.. after all these years... but while I have good news.. I got bad news too."
John blinked, his sister was alive. "How?"
"That's the bad news. Mom was assimilated by the Borg at the battle of the Wolf system rather than being killed as we presumed.." April explained quietly. "It was... a bad day for us all."
"When did this happen?" Jessica inquired. "Her rescue I mean." The older woman added with a soft smile on her lips.
"It happened two days ago when a cube popped up in unclaimed space between the Federation, Breen Empire and the Cardassian Union. The Cardassians attacked but our ships were able to resolve the situation peacefully and now... Mom has been returned to us." April explained with a gentle smile.
"I never saw this coming.." John sighed softly.
"None of us did uncle John.." April sighed softly. "However she was recently elevated into becoming a Borg Queen.. so she has that to contend herself with.." April responded with a sigh.
"Wait... hold it... Let me get this straight... My sister is a Borg Queen, who was disconnected from the Hive mind and is now free.. she's brought a ship and thousands of drones with her who all wish to be deassimilated.?" John inquired, wanting to see if he understood all of what he was being told.
"Essentially correct. Yes." April nodded her head, yes.
John shared a look with his wife. "I have a bad feeling about this." Jessica commented quietly.
"We're coming with every available medical resource, even some from the Cardassians to help... They are also helping us with the Akurian situation at B Kayor too."
"I confess I didn't see that coming.." he sighed. "Alright April.. Keep me informed.. please?" John inquired of his niece, she didn't need to do so and the three of them knew it.
"Of course. I'll tell you more as I know more... but I only just heard about it myself a short time ago... and I thought you needed to know.." she explained.
"Thank you sweetie. I appreciate that... " John answered with a soft smile
"Alright... Well I'd best get back to work... You know how it is... it waits for nobody.." and with that the screen went dead as April hung up.
"How the fuck does that happen?" John asked his wife slowly. "Pack your medical gear... I want you on the next ship over there.." John knew his wife would be itching to make herself useful. "Take some of your people who want field experience." he added.
"Willdo." with that Jessica withdrew into the next room.
John sighed as he knew that most medical personnel from their new allies as well as Starfleet itself was going to be tied down with the refugee crisis and now this Borg situation over the next while. "Jessica.... Wait nevermind."
Jessica poked her head out of the bedroom. "Why... Oh right.. the Borg.."
"Yeah.." John answered. "Maybe I'm being paranoid... but humor me will ya?"
"Alright. We'll keep an eye on it and see what develops.." Jessica came over to her husband. "It'll be alright." as she smiled at him.
