Tying off a Loose End

Mission: Mission 55: The Measure of a Woman
Location: Starfleet Academy Grounds - Earth, SOL
Timeline: 1400Hrs - December 27th, 2391

Commander Harmon Rabb Junior was wearing his uniform jacket as it was cold this time of the year in San Francisco, on Earth. He sighed as he breathed out, letting loose a sizable plume of white smoke as his breathe frosted.

Rabb came to a stop near a large display, he tapped it once and the display lit up with bight greens and blues. "Please state your request?"

"I'm looking for Lieutenant junior grade Samantha Yeager, where can I find her?"

"Lieutenant Yeager is in the Recreation Center."

"Lovely," Rabb responded, knowing he was going to drag the Lieutenant out of her sports class or the pool which would further add to her issues, he knew that she knew that he was coming. "Very well. advise her that I am wanting to speak with her in thirty minutes."

"Confirmed." the computer responded.

Meanwhile, in the gymnasium, Lieutenant JG Samantha Yeager was presently doing lengths in the pool, she was wearing a dark red one-piece singlet, which was made for working out in but it did nothing to hide her looks when the computer beeped. "Lieutenant Yeager, please report to conference room sixteen in thirty minutes." the voice boomed.

Samantha looked up at the ceiling as she thought. "Are you kidding me?" she inquired before she sighed dramatically before she grasped the sides of the pool with her hands before she hauled herself out, she then took a moment to adjust her suit so her features were not so painfully obviously female.

Samantha turned as she picked up the towel she left near the side of the pool before she wrapped it around her waist, then she went off into the shower area, moving the towel so she didn't soak it. She showered off the chlorine and the like from her body and from her suit as after Rabb was done with her, she was going to come back here and finish off what she had started.

Twenty minutes later she was dressed wearing her standard uniform as she made her way to the location as requested, she reached her destination five minutes early and before she could change her mind, she knocked on the door.

"Enter" a voice from within announced. Sammy tapped the bottom button on the door panel, the door then slid open with a soft swooshing sound.

"Lieutenant Samantha Yeager, reporting as ordered sir."

"Come in Lieutenant. I am Commander Harmon Rabb Junior and I here to interview you regarding a child custody dispute that has arisen. Your father is involved which means I must see you."

"I see sir." as Sammy entered the room, she noticed very quickly that he was alone. "Sir."

"Take a seat Lieutenant, this won't take us long.."

Sammy sat down without protest or comment as Rabb placed a PADD onto the table before the two of them before he tapped the record button. "This is Commander Harmon Rabb, interviewing Lieutenant junior grade Samantha Yeager for child custody dispute regarding Talon Yamaguchi."

Samantha was suddenly confused as a feeling of dread slowly began to work its way up her spine, like an advancing wave of dark ice. "yessir."

"Very well... What is the nature of your relationship to Talon Yamaguchi?"

Samantha paused as she considered it. "She's dating my father." she said it with a tone of acceptance. "She and I are getting to know each other so she's giving me space.. Same as I'm giving her space.. Talon and Dad might get married and... if they do then I think its a great idea." she smiled warmly.

"Fair enough... and the nature of your relationship with her children?"

"Othello, Perea and Marie are very well behaved for kids their age but they are children so I don't mind if they do the usual hell raising and the like, it doesn't bother me...Children have to be children otherwise whats the point of it really?"

"An interesting perspective... you don't mind sharing your family with a strange woman?"

"My Dad is young, he has his own life to live and I can't tell him what to do... If he marries Talon and has more children with her then I'm all for it, all I want to know is ... am I still going to be accepted at that dinner table... and I've already been told that I'll always have a place in Talon's family..."

Rabb listened as the younger woman explained herself. "Talon did not need to try and get along with me for any reason but she did... I am grateful to her for that chance.."

Rabb found he had no good response for any of this. "How do you think Talon would cope with a forth child in the house?"

"I think she would be fine. She has a good support net in place and she does have systems and safeguards set up so her children are provided for in case something should go wrong." Sammy explained. "I am one of those... when I'm there.. Dad is another."

"Mmmm... Fair enough." Rabb answered. "Alright... Thats all I wanted to ask you Lieutenant." he tapped the recording button on the PADD before him. "Our interview is concluded."

Samantha Yeager rose to her feet. "Sir... what's all this about... if I may inquire.?"

Rabb saw no reason not to tell the young woman before him. "There is a child custody issue in which Talon has requested that a child that was placed into care against her will, be returned to her mother."

"Wait... What?" Samantha was confused. "I thought mom only had three kids.."

"Mom?" Rabb noticed and was quick to ask.

"Sorry... I just... I guess I've started to think of Talon Yamaguchi as a second mother to me... To be blunt. It's nice to have a female role model for a change." Sammy explained. "Anyway... go on with what you were saying, sir."

"Yes.. the child's name is Noel Yamaguchi. She was adopted by Talon when she was an infant, long before Talon met her ex-husband, he had Noel placed into care because he felt she was a threat to him and his children."

"Thats disgraceful." she paused. "I am sorry sir... I have nothing good to say about that..." she then smiled. "but I appreciate your candor and you asking me what I thought and felt of Talon Yamaguchi..." she paused. "I hope she becomes a Yeager... the name suits her.. besides... Mom is just.... awesome.." she shrugged.

Rabb smiled, his found her good mood downright infectious. "Well Lieutenant, I don't want to keep you... Thank you for your insight and your candor."

"No trouble sir. Thanks for asking me."

With that Sammy went back out the door as she turned right, she wanted to go back to the recreation center.
