Mission: Mission 54: Where Snow Meets Sky
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0900Hrs - December 10th 2391

Major Garibaldi sat at the bistro drinking his coffee and watching the ships dock at the station. He was growing impatient waiting for the runabout from the Roanoke. After spending three years teaching at the academy he was restless to get back a field command.

Behind him a tall redhead was getting her coffee. After thanking the barista she turned and saw Garibaldi. "Captain Garibaldi?" She blurted out.

Garibaldi turned to look at Olga. "That is Major Garibaldi to you." he replied and then looked up at her. "Oh, if it isn't Miss Olga Vaal. I thought we kicked you out of Star Fleet?"

"That's Sergeant Vaal to you, Major." She replied. "And no, your court martial just took all my rank. I was reassigned." She told him. "I can see your warm personality hasn't changed."

"If I wasn't expecting a runabout I'd kick your ass across this star dock, Sergeant Vaal." Garibaldi replied.

"Hmm, that's too bad." Olga replied with a slight grin. "Anyways, I'd say this has been a pleasure but I would be lying."

Garibaldi had a sour look on his face and was about to retort when he was interrupted by the dock's comm. "Runabout for the USS Roanoke at vestuble 12."

"Well, that's my ride." Olga told Garibaldi. "Stay angry and bitter." She added in a sarcastic tone as she headed off.

Garibaldi picked up his luggage and headed to the runabout. After getting his luggage secured he headed into the passenger cabin. He spotted Olga drinking her coffee up near the front. A smiled crossed his face as he walked up behind her. "Hello Sergeant." He told her in a cheerful tone. "I'm the new commanding officer for the marines on board the Roanoke. May I assume you are assigned to that ship?"

Olga let a weak "Yes."

"Oh, good. I can see this assignment is going to be fun." Garibaldi smiled and sat next to her. Olga just whimpered as the runabout headed to the Roanoke.

Moments later the Runabout landed in the shuttle area.

Wukari and Cyrin watched as the last Runabout entered the shuttle bay. The ship was scheduled to leave tomorrow so the two of them had to get the flight deck ready today, when Wukari noticed the marine Major coming off the runabout. Wukari looked at Cyrin, "Whats a marine major doing here."

Cyrin shrugged," I dunno, have to ask Teval or Lasky about that." He then tapped his combadge saying," Cyrin to Teval, we just had a marine major come on board, do you know anything about that."

"Last minute replacement for our Marine CO," Teval replied, "only got the memo yesterday, I'll be there in a minute."

Moments later Teval arrived, having brought Nightstar, Chalan, Tracy MacIntosh, and Lasky with him. Addressing Garibaldi, Teval commented. "I take it you are assigned as our new marine CO."

MacIntosh raised an eyebrow, as she stood there alongside everyone else, she had no idea of who this guy was and she had no idea that this was going on.

Garibaldi looked Teval up and down and finally noticed his rank insignia and his badge. "Yes Captain, I'm glad to be back out in fleet with you all."

MacIntosh recognized who Garibaldi was now, her eyes narrowed as she paused while her memory recalled what she had heard of him, she however did not know of him or encounter him before.

Teval didn't make any expressions as he looked Garibaldi over," OK, well welcome to the Roanoke then. You have today off to take the time and get settled in, I don't ask people to immediately take a duty shift the first minute they get here. I will not judge you based on your past assignments or personnel reports, so you have a clean slate with me. Also I don't care much for titles, my name is Teval and I would prefer that that is how you address me."

"You the head honcho, Teval." Garibaldi replied. "Thanks for your generous offer but I would like to get right to work. I've spent the past five years at Star Fleet HQ dealing with their dog and pony shows or training cadidiots. I'd like to see a real armory with real weapons and marines."

MacIntosh knew this was going to be interesting as she gave him the once over, also she was getting the impression that this was a man who one did not cross lightly or easily.

Teval already turned a little apprehensive, unsure yet if Garibaldi was an outright workaholic or just trying to impress people. Either way he decided to reserve his judgement for another time, " Well alright if that's what you really want."

"Thank you Teval." Garibaldi replied. "It's a pleasure to be here."

Teval nodded then added," Alright, well mission briefing is tomorrow morning at 09." He then turned to Lasky," Alright I'm going back to my ready room." He then turned and left.

"Okay." Lasky responded before he turned back to Garibaldi. "Is there anything you need Major before I forget to ask?"

"No, I think I'm good Sir." Garibaldi remarked. "Thanks." Garibaldi liked to keep marine business to marines but Lasky seemed like a nice guy and he didn't want to make waves.

"Leave the sir at the airlock." Lasky responded. "You're senor staff, same as me and I try to be on a first name basis with as many as possible." Lasky explained. "Welcome aboard... Hopefully you'll fit in here..." he sighed. "Unlike some we've had before."

Garibaldi wasn't sure what Lasky meant but just nodded in agreement before he headed down to the armory.

Meanwhile, Chalan and Yuri Grissom where helping Gunther Von Estling in their arms inspection when Chalan noticed Garibaldi, Nightstar and Tracy Macintosh enter. "Major, lieutenants, how can I help you."

"Just here to have a look at the armory." Garibaldi replied. "So I take it security and marines share the weapons locker?"

Von Eslting nodded while he inspected a rather old looking machine gun," Yeah, the main armory is a shared responsibility. Marines also assist with inspecting other weapons lockers throughout the ship."

"Why is there a machine gun in the armory?" Garibaldi asked.

MacIntosh raised an eyebrow. "Well Starfleet doesn't issue us with the newest equipment so we are ultimately forced to use... what we have which is ... everything... from swords to guns to beam weapons to projectile launchers..."

"Before I left Star Fleet Command they had just refurbished the entire building and even the security guards and training units were issued the latest phasers." Garibaldi replied. "This isn't an armory it's a museum."

"Yep." MacIntosh responded. "Yet they still shaft us so often and on so many things... I need lube to keep the swelling down." she explained.

One of the nearby security guards snickered. "Lewd.... Too Lewd. Thats just.... wrong.."

Von estling gave an explanation," Well, Roanoke, being Roanoke, has had a contraband problem, with people replicating and or acquiring a number of much older and more unusual weapons, Zara Tane being the source for a number of them. Ultimately yes most of our crew is equipped with the more modern kit, but we do have a collection of confiscated museum pieces. Starfleet has never directed me to destroy them, so they just end up staying here, collecting dust."

"Alright but we do have enough kit for all our marines and security?" Garibaldi asked.

It was MacIntosh who answered. "For the Marines and Security. yes... but only those... If we had to arm the entire crew.. A full third of them would be using these museum pieces.." the small woman explained.

"Not trying to sound callous but the rest of the crew isn't my concern." Garibaldi stated. "If we do our jobs it won't come to that."

MacIntosh found she had no good argument for that so she fell back on the standard answer. "Yessir."
