Mission: Mission 32: Tales of Tarod
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0900Hrs - April 19th, 2391

"So what other toys do you guys have," Ra'Vak asked his feline companion curiously.

Karryn answered a bit enthusiastically, "Well, currently we are working on trying to miniaturize the matter-energy power supplies used by the dreamcrusher, and trying to instal it on other ships and fighters as well."

Ra'Vak shook his head, "I am not really following, what is a matter energy power supply."

Karryn explained thoroughly, "Well a matter energy power plant basically uses the same technology as transporters and replicators, but in this case, it is used to break down matter into pure energy, without having to use antimatter to accomplish the task. The end result is, although the current generation power plant doesn't have any more power generation tan a warp core, it doesn't need highly volatile antimatter to power it. In fact, it doesn't matter what is put into the power plant, it will still work, though right now, current power plants can only be supplied with liquids. But they can be run off of stuff like water, and still provide as much power as a warp core, without the risk of turning into a timebomb, and eliminating the need to carry highly explosive fuels."

Ra'Vak Scratched his head curiously, "Wow, that impressive, what else have yo guys got."

Karryn shrugged as the two of them entered the hangar bay. " Well, we have been working on the new missile tech, and so far, it is going quite well. We just got word about a week ago, that the various new missile designs have just been approved for full production. New ships are being fitted with them, and now we begin the process of modernizing all other ships and fighters to use them. We are also working on fitting new defensive systems to fighters and warships to account for them as well."

Ra'Vak was about to say something else but was interrupted by a loud banging sound and cussing that he instantly recognized as Zara's.

"Stupid, fucking, piece of shit," Zara fussed and then something in the engine she was installing into her fighter, burst into an electrical cloud.

Her hair full of static, Zara walked over to her tool table and picked up a sledge hammer. Then she began a quick march back over to her fighter, with the intention of killing it.

Ra'Vak gave off a light chuckle, "Well now, I feel like that just about every day."

Karryn shook her head, then walked over to Zara, saying, "You sure like breaking that thing and fixing it again don't you."

"Yup," Zara answered and started smashing the engine until it crumpled and fell through support brace of the engine block.

Karryn looked at the detached engine, saying, "So, what issues are you having with this thing."

Zara wiped the sweat from her face and dropped the sledge hammer. Then she walked them over to her small worktable where she rummaged through several blueprints. One on a new cloak design was on top, followed by the tetryon-based impulse engine.

"I'm looking for a neutralizing agent to keep the tetryon particles from becoming too explosive. The idea of this engine is to give a fighter emergency boost maneuverability, when they have an opportunity to evade and mini-warp jump to safety. Similar to what hotrod engineers did with nitrous oxide." Zara reached for her bottled water and then drank on it to cool off.

Ra'Vak gave the blueprints the once over, then looked at Zara, saying, "And you think I'm insane? A tetryon reactor, you have done lost your marbles big time."

"People said the same damn thing about the warp core, until they found a stabilizing agent known as dilithium crystals," Zara shot back. "Anyway. Once I find the stabilizing agent, then I can focus on the fighter's stealth ability. Which needing speed in case of discovery, is very crucial for."

Karryn simply shrugged, "Well, the warp core is pretty much on the way of becoming obsolete anyway. We are currently working on matter energy powerplants, which. Although they aren't really any more powerful than warp cores, they are far safer to use and don't require antimatter fuel."

"I've spent about ten years working on a viable tetryon reactor," Zara sighed in frustration. "As long as it's not running at threshold for a long period of time, it has usually done well. Besides, we're talking impulse speeds. Not warp."

"Yeah, but even non warp capable fighters still use warp cores as their primary power supply." Karryn then paused for a minute thinking, "Though I wonder why they are called warp cores in the first place, they don't actually do anything to generate a warp field. That's what the field coils in the engine nacelles are for."

Ra'Vak just shrugged, "I guess warp core sounded cooler than matter-antimatter reactor, I guess." Another thought then hit Ra'Vak and he asked, "Wait, about the matter energy converter. It doesn't really matter what is used in it right."

Karryn shook her head, "Not really, the matter energy reactor can really convert any matter to energy. It's just normally liquids are used because liquids are easier to move around, while having a much higher density than gases."

Ra'Vak then added, "But why not use a very high density solid fuel, if you use a very dense material. Yeah it be a bit more difficult to refuel, but you might be able to get a more compact power core with it."

Karryn looked at Ra'avk with a shrug, " Well it has the merit of not being tried yet."

"If you're talking about a new FTL engine for the ship, I'm all ears," Zara said as she went back to her tetryon engine blueprints and began to go over the design once more.

Karryn shook her head, "No we are discussing possibilities, it would just be a different power supply that it all, but we may be able to come up with something."

"If it makes this Ol' Lady more effective, I'm open to new ideas," Zara smiled brightly.

Karryn looked at Ra'Vak with a small smile, saying, "give us a couple of weeks, and we will see what we can come up with."

"Well once I get my cloak working, every fighter will have a very good advantage... At least for the first few months they go active," Zara smiled brightly. "I'll start working on that system once I finish my engine design."
