Mission: Mission 17: The Drug-Dimmed Tide
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1800Hrs - December 18th, 2390

Xavier and Kaylee had just finished their assignments for class. They put their PADDs away, they Xavier began to flip through the vids; it was his turn to choose what to watch tonight. Kaylee sat next to Aunt Tressa, who had been quiet all night. She didn't know how to tell them what she needed to say.

"Got it," the boy said triumphantly as the vid began. A race car giving himself a pep talk, of course, his favorite movie.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" Tressa asked tentatively. Xavier paused the vid and both children looked at her, waiting.

"Okay, remember how I told you guys how I would be counseling the staff and crew here on the Roanoke?" Heads nodded. "Yes... well something is happening, I mean I made a decision... well, some people aren't going to be happy," Tressa said carefully. "Those people won't be happy with me, and you might hear something about it, and if you do, I... I don't want you to be upset. You may hear some bad things about me."

The children's faces betrayed them; they looked frightened and upset. "Did you do something bad?" Xav asked.

Tressa sighed. "It isn't as easy as that. I don't think I did, but some people do. Its okay that they do, adults don't always get along. I don't want you to be upset and if you are, you can come to me and we will talk about it. I just want to prepare you."

"Okay." "Okay." The children's faces were serious. Aunt Tressa had never spoken to them like this before.

"Play video," Tressa said.

As the children became involved in the story Tressa hoped fervently that she had made the right decision to come to the Roanoke. Not for herself, but for her charges. Time will tell, she thought. Time will tell.
