Mission:
Mission 54: Where Snow Meets Sky
Location: Various Locations - USS Hara
Timeline: 1600 Hours - December 9th, 2391
Arienye gazed onto the USS Hara-B. It was of the new Prometheus class of fast destroyers. Runabouts and dock workers in vacuum suits still worked around the outside of her sleek hull. The ship still needed to go through a few routine checks before she could leave the dock. The Hara would need a crew. The old Hara had been decommissioned. The old crew were split up to reinforce the new ships in the task force. Two captains were not needed on any ship, therefore Jarok was out of a job until the new Hara was ready. It also didn't please her to start off with a new crew. They would have to be tempered and learn to work well with each other. It was a time consuming process. At least two months. The good news is the Federation was not at war.
A petty officer called to her. "Commander, the shuttle is ready." Ariennye nodded and followed the NCO. Two enlisted engineer techs rushed to catch the shuttle. The were relieved to catch it before it left the vestibule.
The officers straightened up when they noticed the rank on Jarok. There was silence on the shuttle before one of the enlisted finally decided to speak up. "Excuse me Commander, do you know who our new Captain is?"
"Lieutenant Commander Jarok." Ariennye answered.
"Is he a good officer?" The other asked.
"She," Jarok replied with inflection, "Is a an experienced officer."
The two looked at her rank and figured out who Jarok was. There was silence for the rest of the trip.
After she landed Jarok went straight to the bridge. A large green Orion male was already running systems checks. He did not look up or say anything as Jarok entered. Jarok gently coughed and Omotus reflectively looked up. He immediately snapped to attention.
"Officer on the bridge." Omotus announced.
"At you were." Jarok replied. "Why are you not enjoying liberty with the rest of the crew?"
"For some reason people want to start fights with me." Omotus replied. "I am getting a head start on my duties."
Jarok just nodded, "Carry on." Then entered the ready room. She dropped her bags. She took a seat and pulled a PaDD from her travel satchel. The PaDD lite up and her finger danced across the screen.
"Let's see who we have coming aboard." Ariennye whispered to herself. She locked over a few files. When she scanned her flight control officer's file up she raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so she is still in Star Fleet?" She asked to herself. "Computer: Is Ensign Harmon on board yet?"
"Ensign Harmon has not reported for duty at this time." The computer answered in a monotone voice.
"Please inform me when she does." Jorok ordered the computer and it was acknowledged. "Has Lieutenant Rurmatog reported for duty yet?"
"Lieutenant Junior Grade Rurmatog reported for duty at nine hundred hours." The computer replied.
"Good. Call him to the ready room." she ordered and Rurmatog was paged.
Moments later Rurmatog was standing in front of Jarok. "You summoned my Captain?" the Tellarite asked.
"Yes I did Lieutenant." She responded. "You are the chief engineer of the ship."
"Chief engineer?" Rurmatog chuckled. "This ship is just an over sized runabout. There is no pride in calling myself chief engineer on a vessel of this size."
Jarok was visibly annoyed. "Not too many junior grade lieutenants can be the head of anything. This will look good on your jacket."
Rurmatog snorted. "This is a not only small but new. The ship will practically run itself. I would rather be on a larger vessel."
"Be that as it may, you are stuck here and I expect you to do your duty." Jarok told him in a harsh voice.
"Is that all Captain?" Rurmatog asked in a curt tone.
"You are dismissed Lieutenant." She stated and Rurmatog quickly left.
She just shook her head after the Tellarite left. "Too stubborn for his own good." she thought to herself. It was then that the computer chimed.
"Ensign Harmon is now on board the vessel." It announced.
"Jarok to Harmon, after you stow away your luggage please report to my ready room." She ordered Harmon.
"Acknowledged." Harmon replied.
Harmon entered the ready room in a sheepish manner, unable to make eye contact with Jarok. "Ensign Harmon reporting."
Her behavior didn't slip by Jarok. She decided to be easy on her new conn officer. "Have a seat and relax Ensign." She told her. "So, in your own words, tell me what happened on the Dresden?"
Harmon gulped as she didn't relish explaining what happened. "We were attacked and I froze up. I didn't mean to and I'm really sorry."
Jarok didn't want to press her too hard. "I assume this behavior will not happen again?"
"No, no it will not." Harmon replied.
"Very well, I'll take you at your word. You do understand what happens if you do?" She asked.
"Yes I do but it won't happen again." Harmon replied, not too sure of herself.
Jarok nodded. "You are dismissed Ensign." And Harmon saluted and left.
Jarok shook her head. "Please keep your word Ensign."
She did not get a moment of silence as the ship's computer prompted her. "Lagh B'mala has reported for duty."
"Who?" Jarok asked herself. She then checked her PaDD and looked over the crew roster. B'mala was a last minute switch. She was also an exchange officer from the KDF. "Odd, they sent such a junior level officer." Jarok thought.
"Lagh B'mala, please report to the Captain's ready room as sonn as you have your quarters assigned." Jarok ordered over the comm.
It wasn't a moment later that the ready room door chimed. "That was quick." Jarok thought to herself. "Enter." She replied and a young female Klingon in armor entered.
"I am lagh B'mala, daughter of K'adora and member of House Dak'r." She announced.
"I am Lieutenant Commander Ariennye t'Jarok. I'm captain of this ship." Jarok told her.
"Your Romulan?" B'mala snorted, almost with an air of contempt.
"Yes, I am also the captain." Jarok detected the girl's disrespect but wasn't sure if that was normal Klingon behavior so let it go for the meantime. "And you are our new tactical officer."
"Yes, that is why I reported to you before having quarters assigned." B'mala told her. "I believe my assignment here was a mistake. I should be assigned to a larger ship were my abilities would be put to better use." B'mala stated curtly.
The last statement got Jarok's green blood to boil. She walked over calmly and stood in front of B'mala very close to her face. "You are a junior officer. You have no abilities worth noting." She told her bluntly.
"You are here to learn. You are also privileged to be assigned to this ship. As the only tactical officer you will be assigned as department head and on ship of larger size you would be a shadow officer always working in the shadows. The Hara also has a lot of firepower for a ship of her size. Not many officers of your very junior level get to have that much responsibility." Jarok informed her.
"Now, start representing the Empire as an officer and show the Star Fleet how a KDF officer carries out her duties. Like it or not, your stuck on this ship." Jarok told B'mala.
"Did I make myself clear lagh?" Jarok asked her.
"Yes." B'mala answered.
"I'm apologize. I forgot to remind you that I am the captain of this ship." Jarok scolded B'mala. "Did I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Captain." B'mala answered through clenched teeth.
"Excellent." Jarok replied with a smile. "Have the quartermaster assign you quarters and report to the bridge."
B'mala growled at Jarok but said nothing. Shew turned and left the ready room. Jarok sighed and then a moment later she prompted the comm. "Attention crew this is the Captain, after settling in to quarters report to your department head and then get some rest. We will be taking the ship out tomorrow at zero five hundred hours. Department heads we will have a meeting in the conference room at twenty hundred hours for tomorrow's shakedown run. That is all."
