| Personal History | Michelle Marie Rodriguez-Ortiz (b. September 2, 2363) is a commissioned officer with Starfleet with a speciality in science. She holds doctorates in Paleoanthropology, and Environmental Geology through the Oxford University’s, Department of Bioarchaeology, and an additional bachelor’s in Linguistics from Starfleet Academy. She was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and has two younger sisters (Jennifer and Vivian) and one younger brother, Jose Jr. Her parents Maria and Jose Sr. now live in Upland. Michelle was born in Los Angeles, California as the oldest of three children. Her father was a Starfleet officer serving aboard the USS Hood as a tactical officer. Her mother was a homemaker. She grew up in the Beverly Glen neighbourhood of West Los Angeles and attended University High School. She became interested in archaeology after visiting the ruin of Pompeii and Herculaneum while in Middle School. In her Junior year of high school, she received an archaeology internship in Montana. She helped a team out of Montana State University excavate a nearly intact articulated stegosaurus fossil. After graduation from high school, she used her Fulbright Scholarship to attend Oxford University in England, where she earned her undergraduate in Anthropology. After completing her undergraduate she entered both the geology and anthropology doctoral programs, graduating in 2388. After graduating Michelle returned home to California. Looking for adventure before settling down to a terrestrial research project she joined Starfleet and entered the Academy that fall. At the Academy, she made several acquaintances and met Mark Halverson. They were serious and dated three and a half years. But, relationships across light-years almost always end in disaster and the two mutually split up shortly before graduation. In 2392 Michelle graduated in the top 85% of her class with a bachelor’s in linguistics. Michelle was sent to the USS Valorous, one of the first dozen or so Century class ships. She would remain here for almost eighteen months before earning herself a promotion to Lieutenant JG and an assignment to Starbase Vanguard. Here she would remain to this day. |
