Personality & Traits

General Overview Ward normally has a very cheerful, caring and thoughtful attitude, but will initially appear shy around a new person, however she has the ability to warm up to people quite quickly.
While not being the best officer in the Fleet or the top member of the class, and will never claim to be so, Ward is a very bright and intelligent woman. She often tends to rely not solely on knowledge, but heavily draws from her strong female intuition, as well as past experiences, which she values quite highly. Ward loves to laugh and her good spirits usually help her to brighten anyone's day, as well as her own, she is also more than capable of being serious, and knows exactly when to keep her mouth shut. Like all people, Miranda does have a dark side which she keeps buried. This part of Ward's psyche will often expose itself in times of extreme danger. The dark side seems to stem from the death of her brother, which occurred on her first assignment, an event which cut her very deep and left a large scar, which she covers up with her usual personality.
Strengths & Weaknesses Ward's strengths include her warm personality, her kindness toward others, her intelligence, her consistent drive to please her superiors, her intuition and her beauty. Her weaknesses include the buried unstable part of her mind, her occasional obsessive ways when she wants to find a solution to a problem, her tendency of trusting of those who should not be given trust and her slack exercise regime.
Ambitions Ward has always had a firm desire to succeed so that she could one day command her own vessel, preferably one which would be focused more on science and exploring the unknown. Equal with that goal would be a her desire to start a family, as her family line is very important to not only her mother and father, but to herself, hearing of the Wards who had fought in the wars of Earth, and the first Wards to explore space and fight their interstellar enemies.

Ambitions
To find a mate and raise a family. Also to settle down and stay in one place for a long time.
Hobbies & Interests Hobbies & Interests: Ward's interests are mostly geared towards Engineering and Science, although her hobbies are mostly general recreational activities. She particularly enjoys mingling with her fellow crew members (and sharing a few (dozen) rounds with them) in the mess hall, spending some time in the holodeck playing holonovels, drumming and playing the guitar and listening to music.
While off duty, she also reads scientific texts, brushes up on recent technologies, working on ways to potentially improve the ships systems (specifically the engines and weapons) and also reads up about the 21st Century, a period of time that she absolutely adores

Languages: English and Federation Standards

Personal History Miranda and her twin brother Ricky were born on the 18th of December, 2357, aboard the USS Geneva where her father was stationed as a Lieutenant. After their birth, her father took an extended leave from Starfleet to raise both children properly, so they moved to Earth. They spent the next 13 years on Earth, except Ward's father, who in 2362 returned to Starfleet. Miranda's schooling was fairly routine, however her father was fixed on his children both becoming Starfleet Officers, and ensured she and her brother were exposed to Starfleet in every sense before they applied for the Academy, often inviting the children aboard during their school holidays. She also participated in martial arts classes up until she left for the academy and attained a black belt, something that would (perhaps) aid her when she was at the academy.

More years passed, and both Miranda and Ricky possessed the knowledge needed to enter the academy. In 2373, in the heat of the the early parts of the Dominion Miranda Cayla was able to forgo the entrance exam against 4 other prospective Cadets, instead taking an actual entrance exam, where she would only be tested to either be rejected or accepted to the academy. After 3 long days, Miranda was accepted to the Academy. She elected to study Engineering, science and advanced piloting, in an aim to take up a career path that particularly interested her; Operations.

Her first year was largely uneventful, except for a few incidents which landed her in hot water with the Academy commandant.

This first incident occurred in the first semester of her first year, where a heated argument with another female cadet came to blows, and she pushed the cadet off the walkway into the shallow pond next to it. This incident was witnessed by an Academy Instructor, who escorted them to the Commandant's office. Miranda was given a first warning for disreputable behaviour.

Clearly not learning from her first reprimand, and a firm warning that fighting with other cadets was not acceptable, Miranda was involved in yet another altercation. This time it involved her friends and a small group of junior Red Squad members in the Aldrin Bar, down the road from the Academy. The Red Squad members were taunting her and her friends and making a point that they were far superior to "normal cadets". Against her friend's better judgement, and her own, she decided not to leave the bar, or ignore them. She first tried to tell them to be quiet, and when they didn't, she approached them again and gave them some passive aggressive threats, which quickly escalated into a bar fight, which lasted only one minute before being broken up. It was enough time for Miranda to break 2 noses and fracture an arm. She came out of the fight with very minor injuries, however one of her friends weren't so lucky, one getting stabbed in the stomach with a broken bottle, the climax and end of the fight. The next morning, all the cadets involved in the fight, except for the recovering stab victim were called to the Commandant's office. Each was given a reprimand, a second one for Miranda, who was only one reprimand off being expelled from the Academy. Her father was extremely disappointed in her when he received the news, more so than when she received her first.

From then on, and into the coming years, Miranda was very mindful that a minor slip up could cause her expulsion from the Academy, so she lost her aggressive streak with the help of the Academy's counselor.

In 2375, her Third year, Earth was attacked by the Breen. Starfleet Command and the Academy were hit and Miranda was injured by an explosion, in which 4 people died. After the explosion, she spent 12 days in a mobile infirmary, and after she recovered, she was given a field promotion to Ensign, where she was sent to the front lines in the final weeks of the war on the USS Bendixen as an Operations officer, and fought in the final battle of the war.

When the war was over, her field promotion was made official and she was granted an early graduation.

She continued on the USS Bendixen as an Operations Officer for the duration of a 2 year long post-war clean up, where she participated in several hazardous chemical clean ups and mine deactivation. The ship also did some relief work on worlds which were badly affected by the war.

After an intense couple of years worth of cleaning up, she was transferred to the USS Vampire and recommended for the position of Assistant Chief Operations Officer, to fill the open vacancy that opened after her transfer was set. The Commanding officer of the Vampire met with Miranda, as did the Chief Operations Officer, they both liked her attitude and determination, and agreed that she would be perfect for the position.

It took Miranda some time to get used to the Vampire's 4 shift duty roster, which caused her to oversleep on several occasions in the first month. However she did come good and get herself sorted out.

In 2379, tragedy struck on board the Vampire. A rogue Dominion sleeper ship came to the attention of Starfleet. The USS Vampire, being on patrol, was ordered to investigate the ship. When they reached the vessel, it became active and attacked the Vampire. Caught off guard with their shields down, there was several injuries caused by the first volley of weapons fire in the attack.

While on duty at operations, Miranda was almost killed, when the helm console blew up in the helmsman's face, while she was not killed, she did get a large shard of glass in her arm. Another volley followed, which knocked the tactical officer to the floor and left him unconscious. Miranda took over at tactical and managed to co-ordinate a counter attack with the help of the Executive officer at the helm.

While the ship was badly damaged, 40 crew members had died, and triple as many had been injured, they did manage to destroy the sleeper ship. The Vampire limped back to Starbase at one quarter impulse and reached the Starbase in 2 days. She was selected to oversee the repairs of the ship and was then promoted for her heroic efforts in the earlier mission, and with the fatal wounding of the Chief Operations Officer in the attack, she was promoted to Chief Operations Officer.

She spent the next year on the Vampire as Chief of Operations. In her last year, she worked closely with the Chief Engineer and eventually developed a close relationship with him, which quickly developed out of control into a romantic one. Eventually, the relationship between the two became a distraction to her, and whenever she was around him, accidents would happen. One day, she was working in Engineering and accidentally shorted a circuit. The shock she received paralyzed her and almost killed her.

She after she had partially recovered in the ship's sickbay, she broke her relationship off with her lover. Miranda spent the next four years rehabilitating on medical leave. In 2383, she returned to Starfleet and was assigned to the USS Connor as Assistant Chief Operations officer to slowly and smoothly get herself back into he routine of being in the fleet again.

After a month on the Connor, she was reassigned to the USS Melbourne, this time as the Chief Operations Officer. The Melbourne was same ship that her brother was serving on as Chief Security and Tactical Officer. While she didn't particularly agree with serving with family members, she was more than happy to be reunited with her twin, and to catch up with him in person again, having not seen him since he took a short shore leave to visit her in rehab.

Six months into her tenure aboard, she had earned the trust and respect of her commanding officer and was given command of a mission to board an abandoned Constitution Class to repair some of its systems and prepare it for a refit. With her, came her brother.

The ship turned out to be a home to a group of violent scavengers, who captured and killed Miranda's brother. Miranda then went against orders to bring those responsible to justice, venturing into the darkness of the ship, and killing many of them. She then set a self destruct on the ship and beamed back over to the Melbourne.

Almost like a mirror from her Academy days, she was up for a reprimand again. However, the CO kept her aboard, because he understood the implications. But noted that Starfleet wouldn't agree with her decision, or be very happy about the loss of a ship.

After the incident and the hype surrounding it died down, she requested a transfer, because she couldn't cope serving in a place that her brother had been since his graduation and was so sorely missed, even months after his death.

She was then transferred to the USS Cox, which was a very insignificant vessel, sitting in a very dull and insignificant part of space. The ship was a dumping ground for those personnel who were the 'misfits and trouble makers', the ship was also commanded by a very strict Captain, to organize and instill a sense of duty and order into the crew's lives. After her 'probation' was up, she was itching to get off the ship, getting awfully bored with repetitive schedules and patrols where nothing happened.

She was offered a position as the supervisory engineer on the Waldo Colony, a crime ridden desert planet on the edge of the Neutral Zone. Although she lived the clean, protected life of a Starfleet officer on the colony, she would often find herself in situations where she would fear for her life when the often feral and uncultured inhabitants would break into the Starfleet owned buildings, and the staff stationed in the buildings would often have to fight for their lives to be safe again.

After 3 years of something she saw as a 'new challenge', Starfleet pulled out of their occupation of the planet and all the personnel were reassigned to various assignments, after receiving extensive counselling for their traumatic experiences on on the Waldo Colony.

After some relaxation, Miranda returned to duty and took up a position on the USS McGuire in the position of Chief Operations Officer. The ship was, "Starfleet's best outlet for the misfits and failures. As well as a dumping ground for the officers who needed to be taught a lesson" Miranda hadn't been aware of this, but quickly found out. After a month aboard, the ship encountered a Borg Sphere. After a short battle, the ship had been destroyed, with Miranda being the only surviving member of the crew, escaping in a shuttle, dragging her unconscious body to the shuttlebay by a dying colleague.

The shuttle was captured by an alien race a few days later. Miranda was sent into a simulation of the Nuclear War ravaged 21st century Earth and given a new personality and history which she was brainwashed into believing. After the memory of her real past returned, she started to meet members of the USS Odin's crew. The Odin's crew shut down the simulation. When this was achieved, Miranda was sent back to her shuttle and boarded the Odin to assist the crew in getting the ship moving again, when this was also achieved, she remain aboard, but was left with uncertainty as to what she was going to do when the Odin returns to Starbase.

Miranda was left at loose ends with her ship destroyed and her entire crew dead at the hands of the Borg, she accepted an offer to serve aboard the USS Odin as their Chief Operations officer, here she remained for several months but she never could really settle in aboard this ship as Odin and her crew were frequently in demand for dangerous tactical assignments so she stuck in for reassignment and she was offered posting to the USS Shield of Vega under the command of a Vulcan woman named T'Nae. T'Nae and Miranda instantly got along quite well as T'Nae carried a human last name an even referred to it in communications.

T'Nae Duval sensed that this young woman was deeply troubled do she set about helping her overcome her demons and when she was offered the Chief Operations posting on Starbase 12. Miranda was more then ready for the assignment.
