| Personal History | Early in 2351, M'Elise Kandi'ka was born on Cait. M'Elise was part of the second litter born into her family. M'Elise, along with her three siblings, was raised in one of the outlying colonies sprinkled around the Caitian Planetary System. M'Elise was raised in a family with scientific and technical backgrounds so early on she developed a love of science and technology. All of her many siblings shared this same heritage and interest. When M'Elise was old enough to apply for Starfleet, she did so. She applied not because she desired to leave Cait but because she felt she could better use her skills working "out there" then on Cait. She was accepted six weeks later and when informed, she packed her few items she wished to take with her and she departed Cait. M'Elise chose to take engineering as her major with science as her minor. Late in her fourth year, M'Elise went to a party for the class that was graduating. M'Elise got somewhat drunk and ended up leaving the party in the company of an older cadet. M'Elise has no memory of what happened afterward. She did not and still, to this day does not consider the fact that she was raped as her culture does not have a rape taboo. She does not remember the encounter she had with a Caitian cadet who allowed her to stay the night in his bed, the next morning, the two had several sexual encounters, both of which they enjoyed. M'Elise graduated the Academy in mid-2373, along with her fellow classmates and took an assignment on-board the USS Lexington as an engineering officer. she was initially somewhat nervous about her posting but a young Lt by the name of Karen Emerson took her under her wing. They became close friends and often exchanged confidences. Several months after arriving on-board, M'Elise was working with Karen in Main Engineering during a battle with a Hologram named Moriarty while they tried to track his movements. Moriarty caused a power surge to feedback through the console, causing it to explode. M'Elise pulled Karen away from the console as it exploded. M'Elise caught some shrapnel in her back while trying to save Karen. She was unable to save her friend from dying and by the time the medics arrived, M'Elise was unconscious herself, due to blood loss and had almost died herself. The doctor saved her life, patching her up, stating she was lucky the blast had caught her at the angle it had saved her from more serious injury. He also broke the news to M'Elise that she was pregnant at the same time and that she needed to consider her own litter of two babies, due in almost eight months. The news of her pregnancy sent M'Elise into an emotional tail-spin. She ran through a full range of emotions as the news sunk in. About a week later, during a down kind of day, M'Elise was consoling herself in the lounge when Jamie Emerson sought her out, looking for answers to how his wife died. As time passed, M'Elise felt a sense of closeness towards Jamie, though Jamie held back on the relationship. M'Elise accepted that Jamie needed to grieve and so let herself remain his friend. In early 2374, M'Elise gave birth to a young girl whom she named K'Ren. M'Elise chose the name to honor her friend & mentor. Her second child was named Charon. As the months passed, Jamie & M'Elise's friendship budded and blossomed into a full romance. Eventually, Jamie proposed to M'Elise in Terran fashion. The following day, In a small Caitian ceremony, Jamie & M'Elise were bonded to each other. A month later, they were married in a Terran ceremony. When the Dominion War started, Jamie departed the Lexington, as he returned to Alpha Centauri, he took the two young kits with him and he tried his best to raise them as Caitians while their mother was off fighting the war with the Dominion. In Mid-2376. After the Lexington was decommissioned, due to battle damage, Jamie & M'Elise were transferred to the USS Vengeance. Their stint aboard was short as the Vengeance was transferred to Starbase 503 where the Vengeance became attached as a support vessel. Jamie & M'Elise both received promotions, in M'Elise's case to Lieutenant Commander. In 2379. They transferred to the USS Aeon were Jamie took a position as MXO of the Marine Unit stationed aboard. Their stint aboard the Aeon was cut short when a gravitic burst from spatial anomaly their ship was studying crippled the ship almost beyond repair. The Aeon limped back to Starbase 48 where she put in for a six-month-long refit. During that time M'Elise was reunited with her first Caitian boyfriend from the academy and after their relationship bloomed, she became pregnant with their second litter. As her pregnancy progressed, M'Elise grew increasingly concerned about the safety of their family and asked Jamie to consider a transfer to a safer facility. After much thought, Jamie relented and put in for a transfer to Starbase 74, deep inside Federation space. Early in 2383, The now sizeable family was living on Starbase 74, M'Elise took to her duties with a renewed enthusiasm. Jamie took a little while longer to settle in though after a few months he began to find his place in the vastness of Starbase 74. As in previous assignments, this one was not to last. After only a few months aboard Starbase 74, Jamie & M'Elise were transferred aboard the Phoenix where M'Elise accepted a promotion to Commander and a berth as XO of the Ship. Several months went by as M'Elsie realized she was not suited to command and she went back to Engineering and then three years later she became Chief Dockmaster of Starbase 74, where she remained but suddenly in late 2393, the posting of Chief Dockmaster on Starbase Vanguard became available, she went for it and she was accepted. |
