| General Overview | Hallath is a cheerful man, prone to laughter. However, this is tempered by a zeal for learning that has been described as "frightening". When Hallath devotes himself to a topic, he can be very single-minded. He is also religious, though subtle about it. This has created tensions with friends in the past, particularly of note an Andorian who took offense to Hallath's wearing his earring. He does not let such criticism bother him--much, though he does acknowledge it. |
| Personal History | Born on the Haven Jace colony in 2365, Hallath was the son of two academics who were expats from Bajor. His father was a professor of Politics at the University of Haven Jace and his mother a professor of languages and literature who would later turn to religion. Hallath's childhood was a happy one if brief. He had the chance to interact with a number of non-Bajoran individuals, as his parents often hosted off-world academics. This contributed to his desire to reach beyond Haven Jace, and, in 2376, he went on a three-week trip to assist in the ongoing relief efforts within the Cardassian Union. Unfortunately, this ended in tragedy. His father was assassinated by one of the last remnants of the old Obsidian Order, and the young Hallath would have died as well if it were not for the intervention of a Vulcan youth also on the trip. Upon his return to Haven Jace, Hallath's mother became very protective, turning to religion to cope with grief and taking Hallath with her. This state of affairs only lasted three years; his mother developed a fatal disease and, wrongly, believed that faith would cure her. As a result of this double tragedy, Hallath was an orphan by the age of fifteen. The Vedeks and Prylars were kind to him, finishing his education and preparing him for Starfleet. In a sense, they became his family and he still looks to them when in need of advice. Starfleet Academy was a relief for Hallath. With a fresh start came new opportunities and a rekindled friendship. The Vulcan who had saved his life also entered Starfleet Academy at the same time Hallath did, and the two soon reconnected. T'Ves helped Hallath with the residual grief from his mother's passing and Hallath assisted her in dealing with a rather... unpleasant family situation. Their friendship turned romantic, and they married the year after graduation. Their marriage has been somewhat unremarkable--as much as an interspecies marriage can be unremarkable. However, two years into it, Hallath was contacted by a young woman who was later confirmed to be his sister. This reopened some old wounds Hallath did not know could still hurt, but T'Ves--as she had done with the grief of his mother's passing--helped him through this as well. Hallath and his sister keep in regular contact--she is a young holonovel writer, living on Earth.
