| Personal History | Born in 2335 in Gander, Nova Scotia on Earth. Tom Walther was a happy child who learned quickly the value of a hard days work with his family's fisheries. While he excelled in many areas including sports while growing up. he was an honest child who would routinely help out others. When he came of age, he was expected to go into Starfleet as he had said many times he wanted something different then the family business which his elder brother named Ian was willing to settle for. Walther and his two remaining brothers, freed from the obligations of remaining in the family business all went into Starfleet, Tom Walther went into the Marines while his brothers went into the Navy. Tom Walther's time at the academy was educational, he learned a great deal in a very short time but it was enough to convince him that he had made the right choice in life. He loved the Corps and everything that went into it. His first assignment was to Starbase 12 as one of their junior officers, where he got to put what h had learned into practice, it was here where he showed the other marines that he wasn't just an ass-kisser. He was able to back up his talk with action. Over the course of his career, he had multiple chances to showcase his skill sets, he survived the Dominion War and whats more he flourished here as did the Marines around him as they came into their own. From Starbase Twelve to the Valkyrie to the Goodson, his career flourished until it was cu short by the Borg attack in the Wolf System, he escaped from the Borg and he helped to save others while he did so, almost getting himself killed in the process. His next posting was to the USS Galaxy as her Marine Detachment commander, this was a post that he relished as he spent the next three years training some of the people he would consider to be among the best Marines he'd ever known. Ultimately, he was assigned to a training post on Starbase 12 for new Marines, a task he took to with great enthusiasm and for the next four years he got to showcase his skills and just how good of a leader and teacher he really was, helping to train several thousand marines but he was not the type to lead from behind the lines as he considered it an insult if he did, no, he was one of the rare breed who led from the front because that was who he was. When the war with the Dominion looked like it was going to get hot he requested assignment on the front lines, he was sent to the USS Relentless, commanding her marine detachment as the war exploded in a great conflagration that took two years and several billion lives to put out. He remained on the USS Relentless, forming close friendships with all of her crew, especially with Lieutenant Sasha Behl, one of the younger Medical officers, the two ended up dating quietly, keeping their relationship quiet but Tom was the honorable type, he informed Paul Antilles who while appreciating the sign of respect, saw two it that the two were not assigned to missions together as that was what Walther had requested. Antilles wasn't too worried about things as they were helping to rebuild what the war had destroyed, then in 2379, the Relentless went in for a major overhaul as a result of an engagement with two separate pirate groups which the Relentless and her attachments were able to stamp out one of them and cripple the other. The Relentless's crew were assigned to a New Pathfinder II class ship with the same name since the Galaxy class was being refitted and would be recommissioned with a new name. Paul led his crew to the new ship, Walther was by now commanding the Fifth Infantry Brigade from the Relentless and while the good times were great, they couldn't last as he was ordered to move his command to Starbase Twelve. It allowed him to do his job much easier but a lot of marines regarded it as a black day in the history of the Relentless when General Walther was ordered out of there by command, even Admiral Paul Antilles protested but the decision was final and any appeals against it would be pointless. Walther settled into his new command on Starbase 12, his wife and child beside him, Sash then informed her husband that she was pregnant with their second child, a fact that caused him to rejoice. His assignment here was educational and he got to shape marine Corps Policy in the Beta Quadrant to how he was meant to be run, also he was the one that rerecorded the creation of two new posts. called. Commanding Officer, Marine Forces, Alpha and Beta Quadrants. He was assigned as CO of Beta Quadrant much to his chagrin. He remained here for two years before being posted back to Starbase One, a base he was written off as being almost totally worthless, he remained here as head of Alpha Quadrant for three years before his final promotion to become the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Now he gets to reside on Earth, a planet he almost hates with his wife and children beside him, he made his home in Colorado rather than in San Francisco so he could watch the sunrise come up a couple of hours before he went to the office for his daily grind of paperwork and meetings which he almost detests. |
