| Personal History | Duran Jerrold was the first of three children to Duran Mai and Duran Kastian. He was literally born into the resistance. Both of his parents lived underground and were resistance fighters since the resistance started in 2339. This is where his parents met and married. A year later Jerrold was joined by sister Akaria and nineteen years after this, by his second sister Syal. Jerrold accompanied his mother from the time he was 5 to the underground hospitals, giving comfort and helping with injuries. Jerrold learned to listen and give advice during the years. He was known for his compassion and soft voice. When he was 14 he wanted to join the fighting, his mother begged his father to dissuade him from fighting that he was better at giving support. Kastian told Mai that he could be used to help with injuries during the fighting. Jerrold discovered on his 3rd raid that he was more suited to healing wounds and talking with people than fighting. At age 17, his father was badly injured in a raid. Mai, Akaria, and Jerrold stayed by his side knowing that with the medical supplies they had, he would not survive. After the death of his father, he got the angriest he ever had, at himself, at everyone, and at the Cardassians. Six months after the death of his father, he was caught and put in the camps. During this time, he used his skills for listening and compassion. Four months after his capture, he escaped with 15 others in the camps. He rejoined his mother and sister and began helping in medical again. At age 22, Jerrold met Chastain Lanair, another resistance fighter, she was 21. They were married, in a Bajoran ceremony. At the age of 24, Lanair gave birth to a son named after his grandfather. The birth was full of complications and Lanair died a few hours after giving birth. Then their son died two days later. Jerrold would later say though this was more painful than the death of his father, he did not let the anger get to him. To make matters worse was his mother's death six months later, however, she was pregnant with his second sister, Syal which he had to deliver her by cutting her out of his mother's dead body. Three years later, Bajor was released from Cardassian rule. He would spend a year helping people and earned an honorary degree from Bajor as a medical officer. The decision to join Starfleet and be one of the oldest cadets ever was a hard decision for Jerrold. He wanted to help others, just not Bajorians but others. And he believed this was the best way to do it. He discussed it with Commander Benjamin Sisko, Commanding officer of DS9. The Academy wasn’t an easy adjustment for Jerrold, so he put all his energies into studying. He had decided he would become a counselor rather than a medical doctor early on because he liked to talk with people as well as helping them out with problems. His Starfleet career was without a problem until 2374, when he was on DS9 talking with Captain Sisko and ran into a Cardassian that he recognized as a guard of one of the camps and hit him. He was taken into custody and though charges were not filed, a reprimand was put in his file. After that Jerrold began mediating to keep his temper down. Jerrold is quiet, willing to listen, and becomes friends easily. He is still haunted by the faces he saw during the occupation. He still wears his wedding band and has a bear that he was going to give his son. He keeps it in his top dresser drawer. A good night sleep is rare for Jerrold, but he hardly talks to anyone about it. April Dragon is fully aware of his issues as Duran does speak to her of them often, April and their children help with his issues as best as they can but they knew that Jerrold need to resolve his issues alone as he doesn't tell her everything, April is nobody's fool as she doesn't press him either. Jerrold was assigned to Deep Space Nine throughout the war but he lost the assignment as Chief Counselor on DS9 as he was still inexperienced and more to the point, he was away on Bajor at the time. His next assignment came to him after the end of the war when he was assigned to the USS Pegasus, more of the same followed in that he was helping others to overcome their various issues and to advise people on how to sort out their problems. He served here until 2383 before he was promoted and reassigned to the USS Challenger, it was here where he would meet the woman who would become the great love of his life. April Dragon, the two quickly struck up a relationship despite her being his patient but he was honest with her which she greatly respected. Quickly their therapy ended and the relationship deepened quickly once he no longer needed to worry about doctor and patient issues. She quickly became pregnant and he was recalled to deal with some family issues on Bajor, he returned less than two days before his first child with April was born. He married her right before she gave birth so having a priest at their child's birth was serious cause for April to worry. The rest of their lives together was quiet and uneventful until Jerrold was offered a posting out of medical and into command, he felt like a fish out of water but he accepted anyway, leaving his small family with their mother, he went off to the USS Wounded Knee, an Akira class ship which he commented for several years handling various duties like colony defence and charting missions inside Federation space. By mid-2391. Jerrold had proven his skills in commanding Federation ships so he was offered command of the new Century class, USS Avalanche as part of the military reorganization act, he accepted and his crew followed him over to their new home. Jerrold maintains contact with his wife and children often and he visits them every chance he gets. However, by mid-2393, things had changed and Duran had decided he wished to settle down and reconnect with his wife and children, he stepped down from command of the USS Avalanche and went over to command the USS Calenz, a brand new Century class Heavy Cruiser, based out of Starbase Vanguard where his wife is based. Later that year he was promoted back to Captain and assumed command of Cruiser squadron 14, also based out of Vanguard. |
