Talon has a good, robust sense of humor that's easily applied to any situation and can be used to break the ice in any situation, she sometimes uses humor as a shield but she is usually quite a cheerful person. | Personal History | Talon Yamaguchi was born on August 26th, 2348, the third of five children of Dr Rachael Yamaguchi and then Chief Petty Officer Benjamin Yamaguchi. She was born in the great Asian city of Beijing in China, on Earth. It was on a warm August morning when Talon first saw the sky, it was dark with the stars scattered across the ferment of the cosmos, she would develop the love for the stars seen in all members of the Yamaguchi family. Talon grew up on Earth Spacedock, in orbit over Earth with the rest of her family as her father was assigned to the starbase while her mother was off with the fleet. This suited Talon and her family fine as she grew up, a happy child with two loving parents that adored her and her siblings, it seemed like nothing could go wrong until that fateful day in 2366 when her mother died. For the family, it was a very bitter blow and for Talon, it forced her to confront the realities that sometimes came with being a Starfleet Officer, inspired by her mother's courage in facing the Borg, she was able to draw strength from that rather than slowly self-destructing as two of her sisters did, Coral and April, also set her focus on her main career in life. Starfleet as a Tactical Officer, partly to protect others and to also avenge the death of her mother. Talon graduated high school in early 2366 and applied right away for Starfleet Academy, following all her sisters and her brother, she was accepted into that years fall semester as a student so she packed up her life and moved to San Francisco, she moved in with a couple of her high school friends until early December 2367 when she moved onto the campus full time, partly because she wanted to apply herself and also because she couldn’t handle the loss of her mother who died at Wolf 359. It was a very painful and would take her many years to truly get past. Also, she began learning martial arts and this was something that would sustain her through many dark days and nights that lay ahead for her in her career. During a cadet exercise on Mars in her second year, she ended up sleeping with a fellow student who was going through the Pon Farr, the student in question was old enough to be her father but neither of them spoke of the event or what happened afterward when Talon became pregnant with her first child, a daughter she named Melody. Talon and Orthos shared raising this child after Orthos reminded Talon that he was going to be a responsible father, citing his considerable experience on the subject. Talon also got to meet Orthos's other children, many of them were older then Talon herself was, they also regarded Talon with interest. Talon found interacting with them to be somewhat intimidating but it was Iason who really set her at ease, telling her that Dad was always going to find someone new, he was doing it a littler faster than was expected but he made sure that Talon knew she was welcome in his fathers life. Talon found herself agreeing to his terms but she surprised both of them when she said she wished to get to know Orthos better. Orthos agreed as the two had Melody. Once Talon's siblings learned of the relationship, they all fell into line behind Talon and so Orthos and Talon began dating and keeping their relationship quiet as there was a large age gap of almost twenty-five years between them. Their relationship very quickly turned serious and within a year of her giving birth to Melody, they were married and expecting child number two, a second girl they named Minerva and within another year, a third child, named Neville. The McKnights eventually rounded out their family with a third girl that they named Andromeda. Orthos's older children accepted Talon as their step-mom easily as she was intimidated with the small army of children present. However, she made sure that they knew she welcomed their attention and affection. They, in turn, assisted Talon with her own children. This was a great source of help to Talon as she could focus on her schooling as needed. Orthos also assisted as he ensured his other children were involved in raising their new siblings. This allowed Orthos, his children and his new wife to bond together. Talon graduated the academy in early 2370 and with the threat of wartime hanging over the heads of everyone in the Federation, whether or not they were in Starfleet began to gnaw at Talon as she was assigned to the USS Lexington, an older Galaxy-class starship set up for the carrier role. Talon McKnight as she was now called, was here for the better part of four years before she went over to the Essex, a brand new Sovereign class ship, where McKnight would face the first half of the Dominion war, up to the battle of Chin'Toka, where Essex was crippled. The other ship she served on in the Dominion War was the USS Defiance, an Akira Class. By the time the war ended, McKnight had gone from a green recruit to a seasoned veteran with a half dozen medals to her credit and a department head posting along with a great deal of respect and acclaim to her name. However she was also an angry woman, she missed her husband and her babies, some were now old enough to join Starfleet. McKnight remained on the USS Defiance as Executive officer until 2382 when she was offered command of the USS Pathfinder, newly refitted to 'Two' Specifications, she accepted and so Talon test the new mark two upgrades to the class leader, she was the commanding officer at the time and for her it was one of the most challenging assignments she would yet have, as something was always happening, also something always broke at the worst times. What helped her was that Rear Admiral Paul Antilles had taken notice of her. Talon quickly found herself becoming one of his most prized CO's for her work ethic and her dedication but for Paul, it was her devotion to her family that caught his attention as he too, was a family man. However, McKnight did not enjoy the assignment as commander of the Pathfinder. To make matters even worse was that her husband and children went with her, after a few months it was becoming obvious that McKnight was having issues commanding a ship in the field as she couldn't separate work from play, her family from the rest of her crew and so she requested reassignment to a Starbase. McKnight was instead offered a promotion to Commodore and command of Starbase 45, an Ournal II Class Starbase which would be a massive job and it was one she accepted with relish. At first, she had two frigates and a light cruiser assigned to her base but it was a few months later the USS Fe'garren would reinforce her. McKnight remained in command of Starbase 45 for almost eight years and it was here where she settled down roots with her husband when she adopted a human-looking alien named Noel when she was just an infant, Talon also gave birth to another child which she and her husband had named Julian for a family friend who had died saving Andromeda from being raped while at the academy but had died in the process. Andromeda asked her mother to name her newest child after her boyfriend. Talon agreed. The pregnancy and birth of Julian was a surprise to Talon as she had not been expecting to become pregnant with any more children. Orthos did not object and he reminded his wife that he would assist her with this endeavor like they had all their previous ones. Talon had also forgotten that little promise he had made on their wedding night that he would follow her on all her assignments and he would not waver now. In early 2392, McKnight was offered the posting of the commanding officer of Starbase Lya Station Alpha and she accepted, her two youngest children and her husband went with her without question, concern or comment. |
