Personality & Traits

General Overview Anjoli is a classic overachiever. Psychologically she feels that she must make up for lost time from her early days as a slave. She throws herself into her work, but when off duty she plays even harder. She feels that every day must have some new adventure or learning experience in order to live to the fullest.

Anjoli prefers to see the positives in life, but is not so foolish as to disregard the bad things that can happen. Her father taught her to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. That simple philosophy has served her well both in professional and personal matters.

Confidence is a defining trait for Anjoli. She takes pride in doing things well. The doctor frequently practices her professional skills in holodeck and real life drills.

She feels as though she owes a debt of respect to Starfleet for saving her and willingly serves as a physician to honor the organization. She does her best to live up to the ideals of Starfleet. She is not always successful because of her Arrin'Haeleri nature. The never-ending struggle between rationality and passion can make for an explosive mixture. Shame is an alien concept to Anjoli. However, she has learned that there are some lines that cannot be crossed in polite society. That doesn't mean that she doesn't get.... playful from time to time.

Anjoli is a hedonist at heart. However, she's learned to find better outlets for her energies than the satisfaction of desires. But there are times--like shore leave--where she leaves her responsibilities behind and seeks out pleasures both familiar and new. She does not judge others for their own tastes, as long as no one is hurt by their choices.

The satisfaction of her Arrin'Haeleri appetites is a sensitive subject for both Anjoli and her crewmates. Hard lessons have taught her to avoid complications within her own department and the direct line of command. Not to say she's above temptation.....but the consequences in the past have proven quite disastrous. Still, she's thrown caution to the winds for opportunities that she found impossible to resist.

When seeking simple 'companionship', she's been likened to a Terran lioness on the African veldt eyeing a delicious gazelle. She wouldn't disagree with the analogy. She prefers longer term relationships with there selected partners rather than brief couplings, but her success in such matters is as good as anyone else's. But she still tries to find that particular person that can satisfy all of her wants, needs, and desires. In that sense, she's no different than anyone else.

Anjoli has had several successful pairings with both men and women, as well as a number of other races. She especially enjoys humans, as they seem particularly taken with the Orion mystique. Less endearing have been Vulcans (too much talk, not enough action) and Ferengi (great passion but the dental problems kill the mood). She refuses to entertain the touch of an Orion male, blaming their gender for the downfall of their entire race. Even with her appetites at their most ravenous, she still is quite discrimatory in her choices of loveplay partners. She will not debase herself by taking a partner who is not appropriate. Her body is literally a temple to the Great Mother, and to take a improper partner would be a sin. Not every friendship in her life has had a sexual aspect to it, but she believes that one strengthens a bond.

Anjoli has discovered that humor can enhance and improve a tense situation. She never tries to make people uncomfortable, but it still happens from time to time. She appreciates sarcasm after being subjected to it by one particular instructor. She has a particular fondness for a Terran comedy team of the distant past. One of her more memorable partners left her with an appreciation for slapstick comedy.

Anjoli subscribes to her people's faith in Sha'Nana, the 'Great Mother of the Universe' from which all life flows. It's not a complex religion, but she believes it without reservation. She is quite curious about the religions of other peoples, as it deepens her understanding of the mysteries of the universe.

She is always eager to learn something new about the universe. One day she may delve into starship helm operations, the next horticulture. Understanding life is the drive behind her personal faith. The more she can learn about the universe, the closer she feels to Sha'Nana. Being a healer, giving life and succor to others, is as close to being a priestess of the Arrin'Haeleri as the religion has.

Anjoli is always interested in anything that involves people. She's always learned about the nature of individuals and races by watching and learning about their strengths and weaknesses. Her father always thought that was an ability suited more to someone in security rather than medicine. Anjoli just considers it a survival trait inherited from generations of abused Arrin'Haeleri.
The Arrin'Haeleri are a race of physical empaths. They are capable of sensing another's physical sensations when in direct skin to skin contact. They use what is called the 'Touch' to form a neural bridge with the subject. With proper instruction and practice, they can use the Touch to heal others by transferring and manipulating life energies. Much of this ability is still not understood by outworlders. Anjoli typically refrains from using this ability. As a doctor, she would quickly drain away her own life energies without self-discipline. Also performing such healing is an intensely personal thing to do. A bond is created between healer and patient that cannot be easily dissolved.

The neural bridge an Arrin'Haeleri can create between herself and a lover transfers the physical sensations to each other. In other words, the male is gifted with the physical pleasures of the female, and vice versa when the bridge is in effect. This is a major reason they were considered so valuable as slaves. There are legends of slave owners that became addicted to these sensations and led to eventual death.

Anjoli has never bonded deeply enough with a mating partner to cause physical addiction or permanent trauma. However, one partner did have to leave Starfleet for rehabilitation afterward the end of their physical relationship. Anjoli cared greatly for this young man, and deeply regrets his misfortune. Therefore, she rarely goes above the fifth level of the seven levels of bliss that Arrin'Haeleri can share during loveplay. To venture farther would be reckless despite the rewards involved.

Arrin'Haeleri women may not be physically strong compared to Klingons or Vulcans but have the immune system, endurance, and durability to survive a life spent in servitude under poor conditions. After all, a slave that died easily would never fetch a decent price.

Anjoli loves dancing of any kind, but has specialized in the 'folk' dancing of her people. Anjoli has studied many planets' dance styles over the years. She's especially fond of Terran ballroom dancing and has been able to impress many at formal gatherings over the years. The tango is her favorite Terran dance for couples.

She loves music as well, and has a special appreciation for Terran zydeco. Anything that makes you want to move to the beat, she will

Anjoli would never have survived long without a way to defend herself. She has been taught martial arts by several teachers since her adoptive father began to teach her ways to keep wayward hands off his little girl. She's far from a master of any of the styles but knows enough to keep her virtue, for lack of a better term, to herself.

In the light of her experience with dancing as well as her training with martial arts, she has become adept in a Terran style called Capoeira. Capoeira is an energetic, often acrobatic, dance-like style of martial art. Capoeira was first practiced by African slaves who were taken to work in Brazil. Capoeira is primarily based around kicking, as a slave's hands were normally manacled.

In Capoeira, many movements are carried out while in a handstand position, often resembling old Terran break-dance moves. There are a variety of forms of Capoeira, including where two people "play" fight each other inside a circle formed by spectators, while other members of the group play instruments and sing. The music dictates the speed or tempo of the movements. Ultimately, Anjoli thinks of herself as a lover and not a fighter. Still, she keeps her skills as sharp as she can.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths: Her marriage is a source of great comfort and strength to her.

Weaknesses: she's the last of her family. It nags at her.
Ambitions To raise a family of her own
Hobbies & Interests Anjoli loves fashion, and is always seeking out designers willing to explore creating clothing for someone of her particular race. She loves provocative designs, and her exhibitionistic streak sometimes gets the better of her. Tight, revealing, or both seem to be the trademark for her choices of off duty clothing. Most of her clothing she keeps in a special 'closet' built for her by the Freedom's engineering department. It consists of a replicator with an industrial-sized pattern buffer. She owns an antique pair of three hundred-year-old blue jeans that she keeps in stasis except for special occasions.

Anjoli rarely partakes of alcohol or synthehol, disliking the effects on her body. She gets maudlin when she drinks more than a taste of alcohol. Instead, she prefers Tranya, a tangerine-coloured euphoric drink from the heart of the First Federation. Her mother sends her the occasional rare bottle from her own contacts.

Anjoli loves to cook. But is terrible at it. When following recipes, she's usually fine. But when she's attempting to create a new dish, she's dangerous. She's been known to accidentally poison her dinner companions with her concoctions. About one out of five new dishes require medical treatment for the diner. She refuses to acknowledge her lack of ability and continues to try to improve.

Her choices for places to relax usually revolve around water. She enjoys swimming and diving for exercise. Water was a reward when she was a slave, so beaches and pools are especially enticing for Anjoli. Most of her holodeck activities centre upon such settings.

When in the mood for a team contact sport, Anjoli likes to play Pareses Squares. With her speed and agility, she's quite a good jammer. She gets competitive in the heat of the game, and has been known to get penalties when her passion gets the best of her.

Personal History In mid-2348 the USS Agamemnon intercepted a small but fast Orion ship attempting to cut through Federation space. After a brief but intense struggle. Captain Roberto Montoya ordered the ship to be taken into custody and towed back to the local Starbase. Once the Orion crew was safely locked away in the Agamemnon's brig, it was discovered that the ship's hold was full of slaves headed for market. Unfortunately the Orion keepers had released lethal gas into the holding pens when the ship was captured. Only two slaves survived the murderous attack. One was a fully mature female Orion woman destined for a new life as a pleasure slave. The other was the woman's child, a scrawny girl. The child was young but old enough to understand the dismal fate from which she had just been rescued. The child's name was Anjoli.

Montoya kept the pair of freed slaves aboard his ship after towing the Orion ship back to the safety of civilization. The underfed and barely educated child had become a big hit with the crew of the ship. She showed no fear of the unusual Starfleet crew, and quickly began to adapt to this brave new world. When given the chance to attend the ship's school, she rapidly caught up to where she should have been developmentally and just kept going. She proved quite bright and sociable.

While Anasta and Anjoli grew more comfortable on the Agamemnon, more detailed information about their race and society was revealed. In their own language, the women of the Orion race were known as Arrin'Haeleri. This roughly translated as 'the daughters of the wind'. The maintained a surprisingly detailed oral history about their centuries of enslavement by the males of their race.

Over a thousand years ago, the Orion civilization had been quite advanced. Their women and men were equals in social and legal matters. A sudden crash of their civilization caused by war and its companions pestilence and starvation shattered that careful balance. Males forced their domination onto the physically weaker women to continue their bloodlines. In the hundreds of years since, the women degraded from equals to possessions, from intelligent members of their society to beautiful chattel. In time, the women lost all that they had gained in the millennia of development before the Great Fall. They were seen as animals, and treated as such. Some grew to fit the only role that they could perform. Others did their best to maintain their rich history secretly in order to one day reignite the flame of civilization.

That day never came.

Every generation of Orion women after the Great Fall lost a bit more of the veneer of civilization, and became exactly what the men wanted them to be. They grew into wanton creatures with certain extreme appetites with innate skills.. Still, there were those that still maintained the old ways as best they could. Anasta has passed to her daughters this sacred knowledge in the hope that one day they might yet spark a new civilization into life.

Anasta took a role as barkeep for the ship's lounge in order to stay aboard the Agamemnon. She and Captain Montoya were quite smitten with one another, and the stability of the situation greatly benefited Anjoli. Soon Anjoli had practically become the ship's mascot, being taken on shore leaves and safe worlds by friendly crew members.

In time, Montoya and Anasta grew closer and eventually married. Montoya formally adopted his wife's daughter, but she did not take his last name. Instead, she adopted an Orion tradition of taking the name of her birthplace as her second name. Thereafter she was to be known as Anjoli D'Bari. She meant no offense to the man that had saved her from a horrible fate, but she believed in maintaining the few remaining traditions of her people.

As time passed for Anjoli, she grew from the underfed slip of a girl that had been rescued into a hauntingly beautiful young woman. The adolescence of an Arrin'Haeleri was at hand. This development led to new headaches for Montoya. Anjoli had always loved the attentions of the crew. But now, Montoya saw that the attentions of his crew to a friendly child were beginning to change. In addition, the extreme appetites and innate skills for which Orion women are renowned began to surface. Anjoli practically turned overnight from a sweet girl to a rebellious woman hungry for new experiences that chafed under authority. In other words, a teenager. And be they black, white, pink or green, that means only one thing--trouble.

Things rapidly began to get out of hand aboard the Agamemnon. Montoya and Anasta had to find some way to channel Anjoli's energies into something that wouldn't cause small riots aboard the ship. Crew discipline had to be maintained. The captain was considering a convent or girl's school until Anjoli revealed that the sex of a partner was of no significance. But before Montoya was forced to send Anjoli to Vulcan or a Deltan reeducation colony, Anasta discovered a possible solution right under their noses.

Anjoli had proven to be a natural healer. She had spent many hours in sickbay learning about medicine and the many species that passed through the medical staff's care. She had a habit of asking so many intelligent questions that more than once she had been given tasks to do in order to keep her under control. Montoya saw this as an opportunity to help Anjoli find a path that would prove less maddening for all. The ship's CMO made Anjoli an acting Ensign under the direct control of the medical staff.

With a new focus in sickbay, Anjoli began to develop the discipline and wisdom required of an adult The path was not easy, or always successful. However, in time Anjoli's rebellious and bawdy nature softened and a new woman of strength and compassion emerged. She found herself wishing to repay the people that had rescued her from the brutal life of a pleasure slave by becoming a physician and a Starfleet officer. With the blessing of Montoya and the help of a newly respectful crew, Anjoli D'Bari took the Starfleet Academy Admission Exam. She passed with solid scores and left the only place she had ever called home for the new experiences of a planet called Terra.

Anjoli's ongoing struggle with her natural instincts resurfaced with a vengeance with the arrival at the Academy. Without the watchful guidance (she would have called it 'chafing restriction') of her adoptive father, she threatened to spiral out of control almost immediately. With all the new cadets around her, she was like a kid in a candy store. She did her best to abstain from totally disrupting the school, and failed miserably. She thought that she was showing exceptional discipline by leaving only a few lovers in her wake. Most of them cherished the memories of 'bonding' with the young Arrin'Haeleri once they recovered from the emotional and physical aspects of the experience.

Midway through her first year at the Academy, Anjoli fell in lust with a dashing Senior cadet. Once she had slaked her desire, her good sense took over once again. She rapidly tired of his arrogance and immense ego and tried to make a clean break. Unfortunately the senior cadet was unwilling to lose such a lovely trophy. By the time the affair met its end, Anjoli had been held back a semester due to conduct unbecoming an officer. She had missed out on being bounced out of school by the administration by the barest of margins. The senior cadet emerged from the hospital soon enough but his psychological scars of what she had done to him would prove more difficult to heal.

Anjoli suffered a surprising amount of prejudice and discrimination, given the supposedly high social development of the Federation. Most people had no experience with her species other than innuendo and rumors. They expected the green woman to be stupid at best, an subhuman animal at worst. Anjoli has been known to play off such thoughts to make fools out of those that believed the stories. More often than not this is where she gets into trouble with both friends and enemies.

Eventually Anjoli graduated from the Academy in the top third of her class and was accepted to Starfleet Medical. She was a good student, but was far from being one of those wonder kids that effortlessly excelled. She fought for every good grade and the effort made her a better doctor in the end. She struggled to keep improving her scores and eventually graduated in the top ten percent of her class.

Anjoli's first field assignment was aboard the New Orleans class USS Chemeti, she served here for the better part of two years and her craft was honed with practical experiance in the field. What really helped was the Chief medical officer. Sohnaxx Dvald who made Anjokli feel at home. But in the end she was promoted and due to her higher rank, she couldn't remain aboard the Chemeti so D'Bari was reassigned to a post with a better offering for her rank.

The transfer ended up at Deep Space Six, and proved to be an excellent post for the young doctor. DS6 was the best medical facility for an entire sector of space, and drew many races with emergences. Both Federation and unaligned species came to DS6 for help, and the exposure to new races honed her physician's skills to a razor's edge.

The assignment gave her great deal of experience with trauma surgery. She found herself working with one of the best surgeons in Starfleet. Dr Romano was an unpleasant human with the bedside manner of a sehlat with a toothache but his medical skills were beyond reproach. D'Bari eventually left DS6 after gaining Romano's respect and advanced surgery techniques.

One unexpected discovery on DS6 was she found herself drawn to pediatric cases. She could relate to children easier than adults. They didn't mind her being green, and she never had to fend off the unwelcome hands of a pediatric patient.

The positive experiences Anjoli gained at DS6 got her a plum assignment aboard the mobile hospital ship the USS Benjamin Franklin Pierce. The four years aboard the Pierce proved to be the best medical education possible. The medical ship was sent to every natural disaster, plague hot zone, and battlefield in a major sector of the frontier. Every day was a new test of skill and ability, and Anjoli grew to love it. She made many friends and lovers, picked up a mentor or two, and created an occasional enemy. Life was good.

Just before the beginning of what was to be known as the Dominion War, Anjoli was assigned to the USS Freedom, a brand new Achilles class cruiser. She spent the two years of the war saving lives, making friends, and living life as best she could. She threw herself into both her work and her love life with abandon. After all, life in a war was short. To waste a day would be a sin.

She served with distinction aboard the Freedom, and should have gotten a promotion. However, a forgotten enemy higher up in the chain of command had other plans. The emerald woman was assigned to the relief efforts on Cardassia Prime. The mission was dirty and dangerous. To her, it was practically an attempt to kill her.

Anjoli had lost many friends and lovers to the war, and she held a deep hatred for the Cardassians. She blamed them for much of the horror of the war, and being forced to treat them was akin to torture. However, the assignment backfired on the superior with the grudge.

Anjoli was exposed to the fact that most of the Cardassians were victims themselves of their government. Nearly a billion victims lay dead in the hot mud of their homeworld, and at least that number were wounded either in body, spirit, or both. To a person without faith, such horror might have proven deadly. Anjoli did her best to relieve the suffering she found, and slowly changed both her own heart and the minds of Cardassians who nursed their own hate for the Federation. In the crucible of truth that was Cardassia Prime, Anjoli's hatred for the Cardassians was burned away. In its place was a woman with stronger faith in herself and her views of the world.

Thanks to her unusual race, Anjoli has been tapped more than once to work with Starfleet Intelligence with undercover assignments with trained agents. Her natural talents along with her Starfleet training made her quite useful in a number of key missions. She found the intrigue an exciting change of pace, but found the work less entertaining when people began to get hurt. When she was offered permanent assignment to Intel for further training, she quickly passed as it would take her away from her calling of medicine.

Anjoli spent the years after the war seeking out new challenges where she could find them. She had not sought promotion, seeing her true calling as relieving suffering and saving lives rather than pushing paperwork from one side of a desk to another. Besides, she didn't wish to deal with those that would say that she had gotten to such an exalted position of responsibility on her back or knees. In her mind, rank could be given to the undeserving. Skill is earned.

It was her assignment to the USS Miranda-B thought brought a little extra something with it that Anjoli had never expected to find. It was here where she met a human woman named Gwen Barri. The two began spending time together and the two found they had many interests they shared outside of work so the two began dating, before either realized what happened, a strong bond had grown between them and they got married This, however, didn't happen until they were assigned to the Courageous.

Jake Yamaguchi was happy to officiate the wedding, it was a simple affair with dress uniforms in the Captain's ready room with a big party for the crew. Jake decided the crew deserved the day off so he let them celebrate the newest couple on the ship with a big party and a day off.

Anjoli became a legend because of what Jake did, the rest of her service on the USS Courageous and the USS Song of the East was relatively uneventful and quiet but she did progress through the ranks quickly.

In early 2391, Anjoli was offered the posting of Chief Medical Officer on a Destroyer, the Norway Class vessel, USS Clydesdale. She accepted and today she serves aboard this vessel as she considers it an assignment that she can enjoy. Also, she was promoted to Chief Petty Officer for the assignment.

In October 2391, she was posted along with the rest of Clydesdale's crew to the USS Prinz Eugen. She followed everyone else without incident or comment but ion 2393, she was offered a posting that she deserved. Chief medical officer of the USS Courageous. She accepted once she was informed that her spuse was also going as the Chief Counselor.
