| Personal History | Nathan Duhamel was born in 2358 on the colony world of Tribute. The colony world was one of the major exporters of starship parts to the various shipyards around the Federation and in the late fifties and early sixties the colony grew rapidly in terms of economic wealth and prosperity. Starfleet established the Tribute Shipyards on the surface of the planets main moon to construct shuttles and later runabout class ships for starfleet uses. Nathan and his family grew up safe and happy. There was very little strife on the planet itself as this was no garden of Eden the way Earth seemed to be but that was the way the colony and her people seemed to like it. The the Born attacked and the Federation was defeated in the Wolf System. Tribute stepped up to the plate with new Nebula class starships to replace the losses, also the Tribute Shipyards also began construction of Galaxy class starships here too. Nathan and his family grew up on this world through the strife and wars of the late sixties and early seventies, all of this culminated in the Dominion war of the mid twenty three seventies. Nathan was chomping at the bit but the academy threw age restrictions at him as he wasn't yet graduated from high school but in 2375, when he graduated from High School, he applied for and was accepted into Starfleet Academy. Nathan charged off and went into his classes with serious enthusiasm. So much so that his instructors began to worry that he might burn himself out, to cope he began to meditate and practice martial arts. By the end of 2378, midway through his forth year, there was an incident at the academy. An accusation of cheating in a test was mentioned and he along with a dozen others were implicated. Because of his massive workload, the academy staff suspended him and all others while they investigated it, the rest protected and chaffed at it, while Duhamel saw what they were trying to do so he provided his work and study notes since he kept everything. Within a month however he was reinstated and commended for his cooperation for his time off, so he still passed his various classes. Six months later he graduated tenth in his class but with high honors in various fields and he went off to his first assignment the USS Boreas. While she was an older Excelsior Class, he showcased his tactical skills during a confrontation with three Nausicaan Pirate vessels in which he was forced to destroy two of them to defend a Federation merchant ship. He was reassigned to the USS Sapphire, one of the new Merin class light destroyers coming online, his time across his next few assignments was highly educational, both for himself and everyone he was working with. His newest assignment was to the USS Courageous as he was hand picked by Admiral Nechayev to fill out her crew roster. He was suspicious of the reason's he was given but he resolved to give his new skipper a chance. His efforts and faith would be rewarded when he and the entire crew proved themselves time and time again, however it would all come to an end during the destruction of the USS Courageous while she was escorting a supply convoy designated as GR-1 to Goranar, she was ambushed and while her crew fought heroically, she was ultimately lost and while many of her crew escaped, there were some who didn't. Duhamel was promoted to Commander and was reassigned to the USS Tigers Claw along with the rest of the crew from the USS Courageous. |
