| Personal History | Julia Walking Bear was born in 2351 on the USS Maryland, an older Ambassador class starship. Her mother Jane, was a Starfleet officer who was forced to request an assignment to a Starbase as a result of having a child unexpectedly. Jane came to realize that she had come to enjoy being a parent more than she did like being in Starfleet so she dropped her retirement papers and then she settled down on a world she and her burgeoning family would come to call home. Jane and Michael both settled on the world of Alpha Centauri IV. A world that was rich in water and beaches. Julia grew up loving to swim in the seas and since the planet was warm from pole to pole, she didn't need to wear a lot either so she grew up wearing very little in terms of clothing, her mindset reflects this mentality. She would be joined by several other girls and finaly, her mother would round out their family with one boy who wasn't born until Julia went off to the academy. Walking Bear was always a practical woman as she joined the swim team in high school while she matured from a gawky child to a confident and extremely good looking young woman. She and her team won two championships while she was in school but she was ultimately a pilot as she joined a flying club where she could hone her skills. She discovered almost by accident that she had medical talents around eight years old and over time until she developed her skills, she loved it but she also craved more when she graduated high school. she instantly set an application to go to the academy. it was accepted and off she went to Earth where she not only encountered issues with men, she also encountered issues with the cold for the first time. Walking Bear had been raised on a planet that was a good deal warmer than Earth was and it also was closer to its host star, so the skies were brighter. Walking Bear went to the Academy in 2371 and she would become a medical officer. She worked her way through the schoolwork she would encounter, thinking that if she worked hard enough. Walking Bear could become another McCoy or Crusher. To add to her already considerable workload. Walking Bear resumed taking her martial arts classes as she needed an expressive creative outlet. What added rocket fuel to a burning building was that there was a stalker who was hunting the young ladies of the academy. Walking Bear wanted to be able to protect herself if and when the time came. What she didn't expect was that she was the next to be hunted but when the stalker made his move. Walking Bear dealt with him, restoring peace and bringing back a sense of order to the academy. Walking Bear graduated in 2374 and was assigned to the USS Ticonderoga as one of their Medical officers. Walking Bear learned a great deal about how Medical and Counseling both worked and what didn't work. She went into the academy as a medical officer, following in her mother's footsteps but she found herself in the face of the Dominion War going from fight to fight, trying to save as many as she could in some of the more brutal fights in the war, Walking Bear was on the lines for many of the more interesting events from Operation Return to the fall of Benzar and the Liberation of Betazed among many others. When the war ended, she had found herself with a half dozen medals as well as two promotions from Ensign to Lieutenant and now she needed to decide what to do with herself, she decided she wanted something more than dealing with the fallout from the war so she went off to join the USS Tecumseh, an older Excelsior while she was off on the first of several lengthy border patrols, she didn't mind the workload as it helped her hone her craft. However, the assignment was garnered for her by the Captain of the Courageous. Since the slot was full on the Courageous. Jake Yamaguchi got her a slot as Chief Medical officer. She was honoured and so she went. She never forgot her time on the Courageous or of the man who had shown her such respect and kindness. Jake Yamaguchi. Walking Bear decided she wanted a challenge so she stuck in for a transfer and received the assignment to the first of a new class and kind of Federation Battleship, the first generation of post-Dominion War designs, designed to take into account the lessons learned during the war. Walking Bear served here for two years before being asked to help out on the USS Breedlove as they were short a Chief Medical Officer, it would only be a few months long so she agreed, not realizing what this choice would have on her life as she encountered Lee Yamaguchi, a man whom she felt was actually alive and not someone who merely was trying to get through life as best he could. He was assigned to undergo some serious counselling and due to her early success with Lee. The skipper of the Breedlove asked her to go with him to Deneva, she would be assigned to the Starbase as one of their Medical Officer's but she would also serve as Lee's therapist. Walking Bear agreed and followed Lee to the planet she would come to call 'Home'. It was here that she discovered many new and exciting hobbies for herself which Lee had introduced her to. Walking Bear had finished working with Lee, she then certified him as 'fit for duty in all aspects" which meant that Lee could return to active duty, however by this point, Lee and Walking Bear were already spending a lot of time together outside of the base and she too had discovered what the people in the Highland Mountains had to offer them. Walking Bear had managed to slow an avalanche with a forcefield emitter and a damaged power supply. It failed but it bought enough time so several people who otherwise would have been killed, were able to escape and she found herself becoming something of a local hero to the people of the local monastery and the surrounding village. Lee found himself thinking of the Counselor who had become his most trusted friend and now the two were seeing each other quietly, it was something that was good for them both. Also around the same time, his wife welcomed their first pregnancy. A set of twins. Which they named Edward and Phoolan. The first two of four children that would grace their home. Two more would follow in short order. Meanwhile, Lee and Julia both stuck in for assignments, preferably together and to their surprise, they got what they wanted, assignment to the USS Breedlove, him as Chief Engineer and her as Chief Medical Officer, they both worked well here for the better part of the next two years Three years later. Lee was offered a posting of Executive Officer on Starbase Lya Station Alpha, he said he'd accept only if Julia could come with him which she did, they were married the day after arriving on the Starbase with Captain Silda Vaxx-Warfield who was a friend of Lee's from the academy, performing the service. While this was going on. Lee was offered a promotion to Captain and his own ship, the newly commissioned USS Tvashtar. Julia herself was promoted to Commander and she followed her husband over to his new command, as the second officer and no longer as Chief Medical Officer, she decided she wanted something different so she went into command rather than remain in medical. Julia found herself wearing the red uniform rather than the blue one, something she has come to enjoy. However, she maintained her certification as a Medical Officer and as a Counselor in addition to being a full-time parent to several very demanding children. Things changed when the USS Tvashtar was badly damaged in a raid by several pirate ships, she was defending a convoy. While the convoy escaped. the Tvashtar defended herself well, killing more than three-quarters of the pirates present, however, the ship was very badly damaged in the ensuing battle. Tvashtar survived but she was scrapped as a result of not being worth the effort to repair. Starfleet commissioned a new Guardian class ship with the same name but a few of the original Tvashtar's crew sought assignment elsewhere for various reasons but most of the crew remained together. Julia was sent to the USS Valhalla as their Chief of counselling. Except while she would go back to wearing the teal uniform, it came with a promotion to Captain. What's more, was that she would be reunited with her husband. This more than made up for the issues and shortcomings of her assignment. |
