| Personal History | Gabriel Wounded-Knee was born in early 2343 on Earth. He is a very unusual Starfleet Officer only because he grew up as a poor and under privileged child thanks to low income parents living in Florida, on Earth, his mother died when he was five and so it fell to his father to raise his son alone, he fell apart slowly over time, trying to make ends meet, succumbing to the lure of booze, leaving Gabriel to eventually raise himself from age fourteen onwards, when he turned eighteen. In 2361, his father finally killed himself in a fit of rage as he threw himself off of a tall office tower in the middle of the night, leaving Gabriel alone. Gabriel Wounded-Knee meanwhile had big plans for a business of his own but he was stuck paying his bills through a series of odd jobs, most notably performing as the star stripper at Xquisite Strip Club in Tampa, a club owned by a guy named Dallas who has dreams of creating an "empire" of strip clubs. Gabriel soon meets 19-year-old Adam, a recent college dropout looking for a construction job. Gabriel takes Adam under his wing and encourages him to begin stripping at Xquisite. Gabriel is also introduced to Adam's sister Brooke. Despite his on-and-off relationship with a woman named Joanna, Gabriel finds himself attracted to Brooke and promises to look after Adam, not knowing what it would cost him in the end. As the weeks went by. Adam falls further into the excessive lifestyle of the Xquisite dancers, using drugs and having sexual encounters with many clients. When Dallas announces he has a plan to move their act to Miami, Gabriel confides in Brooke that he is tiring of the lifestyle and wants to get a small business loan to pursue his dream of opening a custom furniture business. The bank declines his loan application and Gabriel realizes that he has to stay in the business to continue to pay his bills. A week or so later Gabriel attends a hurricane party at Dallas' house, where Adam becomes part of a scheme created by Tobias, Xquisite's DJ, to sell drugs to Xquisite's clients, and is eventually given a package of ecstasy. Adam begins using drugs regularly, and Gabriel notices more of Adam's reckless behavior, to the chagrin of Brooke who is relying on Gabriel to protect him. A few days later, Gabriel and Adam perform for a private party at a sorority house where Adam brings the package of drugs with him. At the party, Adam gives a young woman an ecstasy pill causing a brawl between Adam and the woman's boyfriend. Gabriel and Adam are forced to flee without the drugs, which Adam says were worth only a thousand credits. They also do not collect their payment from the event, which infuriates Dallas. After the next night's show, Gabriel and Adam take drugs and go to a club. Adam vomits and passes out; Brooke finds him on Gabriel's floor the next morning. Gabriel performed the medical procedure despite not having any experience in the medical field whatsoever, saving he younger mans life but Gabriel was so disgusted with him, he decided to send Adam on his way, knowing full well that the man was only going to destroy himself and everyone around him. When Gabriel reported for work later that evening, a Starfleet Officer in uniform wanted to speak with him. "Gabriel, I heard about what happened this morning.... why don't you come work for us, we can give you a real life... not this... facade of human corruption. think on it is all I'm saying. You'll find me in the Regis Hotel for the next three days, look for Commander Sandy Willmont." Later that evening, before the dancers' final performance at Xquisite, Gabriel decides he has had enough. Knowing that Dallas has no loyalty to any of them and is driven only by greed, Gabriel leaves the club through the back. After realizing Gabriel is not coming back, Dallas promotes Adam to replace Gabriel as lead dancer. Gabriel goes to Brooke's apartment and tells her he has quit stripping, by now she knew what he had done for Adam and it hadn't helped the man in the end, he had stolen everything and everyone Gabriel had worked for, he said he had a new job lined up and was going to look into it. Brooke learned that Gabriel was being recruited to join Starfleet and she angrily threw him out of her home, citing that Starfleet was a deadbeat organization and it didn't protect the Federation. Gabriel simply shrugged and departed, heaving to the Regis Hotel where he met with Commander Sandy Willmont who learned of his situation. The young officer nodded. "Then lets go, we have no need to remain here, my friend. you made the right choice." and with that Gabriel went off into Starfleet Over the next few months, he did the academy preparation program which he scored very highly and he was accepted into Starfleet academy in 2366's fall's semester. He went into medicine and while his time was educational, he also found peace for the first time in the order of how Starfleet did things and in this atmosphere, he thrived like never before, he spent the next six years at the academy and Starbase Three, orbiting Alpha Centauri B2. it was here that his past finally caught up to him, the guys from his younger years at Xquisite had come to try and bring him back to save the business from Dallas and his greed. Gabriel refused and things got ugly over the next few days when Starfleet Security was called to a bar brawl, in which Gabriel needed medical attention along with a couple of other others including Adam and when Gabriel refused, Adam lashed out at him in a fit of rage. The fight did not end well for Adam who was arrested for various offenses, which resulted in his incarceration and many of the others who came along with him were sent back to Earth, empty handed. Gabriel turned his mind to his future and his next few assignments. He fought with the Federation fleet through the short war with the Klingons, the second Borg attack, the Dominion War and the various disputes between the Federation and its neighbors over the years, going from assignment to assignment His best assignment was to the USS Courageous, under the command of Captain then Commodore Jake Yamaguchi, he was here as one of the department heads in sickbay, now having gone from young and cocky medic to mature and confidant doctor, he was also a combat veteran and an expert with his craft. in 2388, he ran into the old crew from Xquisite as he learned the last three guys left alive were down on their luck, Dallas, Adam and the old DJ were all that remained of the group, the rest were dead through various causes. Now that Xquisite had gone out of business and this group was trying to handle odd jobs, they wanted Gabriel to get them into Starfleet and he refused to deal with their endless lies before throwing them out of his quarters on the Starbase he was visiting at the time. "I Made you and I can break you!" Dallas screamed at him. Gabriel snickered. "No you can't.... you're just an old man who gets off on abusing young kids... go torment someone else.... you could work on Risa, they'd love you. Do not come back to me ever again.." Gabriel was offered the posting of Chief Medical Officer on the USS Avalon by Captain Neban Hular and he accepted, being able to finally leave his past behind, once and for all. |
