| General Overview | Duran-Yeager Syal tends to be rather laid back but she tends to hate Cardassians because of her childhood and the fact her people were abused by them. She gets along with most people otherwise. Duran-Yeager Syal is a gentle soul who does not raise her voice no matter the situation, she is also forgiving and she is generally not the type to hold grudges as she knows the challenges and demands on the enlisted crew, she speaks for them and they, in turn, speak to her. Also, Duran does not lose her cool in front of her peers, officers and enlisted alike. Duran-Yeager is, at present, a mother for a part Vulcan and part Bajoran child that she had named Shakaar, who some of her friends feel was a mistake as Duran had never intended to become pregnant while assisting Lt Commander Symok with his pon-far issues. There were no Vulcans present and she was the only female available. However, this isn't really an issue as she has two other children and all presently live with their father. | Personal History | Duran Syal was born in 2359 in the middle of the brutality of the Bajoran occupation, she never knew her mother as Mai Duran was killed before she could give birth to her daughter, thanks to the Cardassians. Duran only lived because her brother Duran Jerrold had to take measures into his own hands, he quite literally cut his mother's body open and yanked her out in a cesarean section, Duran, however, was almost mutilated during the process so she ended up with scarring from her chest, down her abdomen, and over her left leg down to her knee. In many ways, she got lucky in the fact that she was given life but she was also almost killed at the same time. Duran's early life was one of neglect, hatred, and deprivation thanks to the Cardassians and it didn't change until she was aged ten. To make matters even worse. Jerrold was not able to raise her as he was still too young to do so. So Duran went into foster care and she was raised until she was eighteen when she went off to join Starfleet as a medic and as a counselor which, for her, was most ironic. Duran's time at Starfleet Academy was highly educational and while it helped her come to terms with many of her demons, it also didn't help her with the main one, her hatred of the Cardassians. Her first assignment was more of the same but she spent her time on Starbase 124 as a doctor but it wasn't until she got an assignment to the USS Genesis as a nurse and a counselor's aide but for the first year of her assignment to this ship, she was here only as a replacement for Lieutenant Neela Dealt who was reassigned quickly due to a promotion and there was no replacement on hand. It wasn't until the end of her first year that she was was able to flourish as a counselor once a fellow officer who had been causing her issues was reassigned. One of her patients was a Vulcan male who was going through the pon far. Medical assistance could only do so much as the USS Genesis was too far from Vulcan for Lieutenant Symok to select a mate so he turned to her, she agreed, citing that the ship was too far away so the two of them ended up in bed together as she helped him deal with the pon far with him losing control with her, in ways the experience was something Duran would never forget. Duran knew what she was getting into when she agreed to copulate with him, he left her an unwed mother and she tried to deal with developments as best as she could. It was also about this time that she began to develop a relationship with the executive officer of the USS Genesis, the two started as being friendly and then it slowly developed. Lt Commander Michael Yeager really enjoyed spending time with the young Bajoran, it showed as their relationship flourished quickly, as he started taking an interest in her unborn son as well as going to all of her prenatal classes. Several months or so later Shakaar came into the world and Yeager did not mind when Duran and her son spent time with him. If anything Yeager was a better father to her child then she was expecting, and her son became the glue that would hold their family together. Duran requested reassignment about the same time citing a need for a change and so she was tapped for Chiuef Counselor of Starbase 45, this as Talon Hunt as she was known at the time had selected her. Michael Yeager followed her over as he assumed the posting of executive officer on the USS Fe'garren rather than accept his own command, this was something that deeply touched Syal Duran in a way she never expected and two years went by before Duran Syal became Duran-Yeager Syal. Duran-Yeager spent the next several years serving with the rather unusual crew that Talon Yamaguchi had put together over the years but she was there for Talon when her marriage went onto the rocks. Jerome Hunt cited his wife's unreliability and her infidelity even when it was proven she was not seeing anyone else on the side, he still pressed for the divorce anyway, making things as difficult for Talon as was possible. It became clear that Jerome Hunt was going to be as vindictive on the subject as possible even though all of Talon Hunt's references was excellent, she pushed for full custody and he didn't even turn up to the court case so Talon won by default. But the greatest cost was losing custody of Noel Yamaguchi which was why things had gotten so stupid in the first place. Duran-Yeager was even accused of having intimate relations with her commanding officer, something both women scoffed at but the accusation was damning in itself. However, all this did was anger Duran-Yeager as she felt insulted as she did not sleep around, preferring instead the company of her husband who was the ship's Executive officer. Duran-Yeager remained ferociously loyal to Talon throughout the entire events, even going so far as to look after her children while all of this chaos was going on, both women wanted to protect Talon's children from the destructive drama taking place. When Michael Yeager was brought into it as he didn't know what was going on as Talon didn't confide in him about a matter she considered private. The Yeagers began looking after Talon Hunt's children full time to keep the drama away from them but things came to a head when the accusation about Duran-Yeager sleeping with Talon got out, the matter was a bald-faced lie but when Michael Yeager was told about it, he became enraged with Admiral Hunt for dragging this mess out the way he was, the two men did come to blows over the matter as Yeager did not care for his own spouse's name being dragged through the mud like this with the end result being that Jerome Hunt ended up in sickbay, the result of a truly vicious beating. While the almost endless drama was going on, Syal made it clear that she and her husband would handle the ship and the kids. This allowed Talon to focus on the destruction of her greatest foe. Also, Duran-Yeager Syal and Michael Yeager both went over to the USS Fe'garren when Talon got command of her, departing the Starbase for the duration of the assignment, Duran's new assignment was as the second officer and Chief Medical Officer. The assignment here was deeply valuable and she gained a great deal of command experience assigned to the Fe'garren, also she helped with Talon's healing because her skipper desperately needed help to move on and put the past behind her. The Yeagers were there for her, each step of the way. After the USS Fe'garren was decommissioned and scrapped, Duran-Yeager was given extended shore leave and then she was assigned back to Starbase 45 as one of their senior officers but Duran-Yeager remained here for the next year or so before she was tapped to go back out into the field as the Executive officer of the USS Shinano, little did she knew that she would be reunited with many of the crew from the old USS Fe'garren and her former commanding officer. This was something she would come to relish, at the cost of missing her own spouse and their children who were off with his command. |
