| General Overview | Tolian Brevik is a man that's usually quiet and laid back but he can be serious when he wants to be. He has some serious issues with the loss of his Command and the loss of his family. He sometimes wears a pendant under his uniform with a picture of the family in it. Tolian can sometimes be found in the holodeck usually raising some hell or in the lounge raising a rukus, sharing drinks with people or cooking something in the lounge for everyone to enjoy. Tolian has an extreme grip on his temper but he can still be provoked and when provoked, he can become something truly dangerous. Tolian is rather laid back and will always have a smile to share and a joke to tell to lighten the mood no matter how he's feeling. When things get hairy and the ship starts shaking apart, he'll get scary as sometimes there is nothing better for him to do then to actually go and break something. Tolian is known for being the resident wiseass of whatever department of the ship he's on, regularly dropping a world-weary bon mot into the regular routine that's a Starfleet Officers life. |

| Personal History | Tolian Brevik was Born in the Early morning of December 3rd, 2195 to an older couple, both his parents had only wanted one child and had been trying for years and now after almost 50 years of trying Tolian Brevik entered their world. Both of his parents had been on Earth since the end of the 20th Century and both of them were caught up in the hellish aftermath of the Third World War and as a result. Tolian's mother had suffered some minor amounts of radiation poisoning that damaged her ability to have children. Tolian wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life but after a rather chance encounter with the Former Federation President, Jonathan Archer, during a school field trip to Paris, France at the tender age of 5 he spent an afternoon in the company of a very old John Archer. This one chance encounter brought Tolian's life into focus for him. Tolian went to school and did well, he was even offered a chance to join Starfleet Academy as an Officer but he turned it down and signed onto a Boomer vessel. After 5 years of seeing the Galaxy at Warp 1.2. Tolian decided that enough was enough. In 2220 he enlisted in Starfleet and within three months was on his first assignment. USS Serapis as a Gunners Mate. Over the course of the next hundred and seventy years of his life, up to the present day. Tolian served on over three dozen assignments including The Excelsior, The Enterprise as well as her several of successors, The Enterprise-A, B, C and D, he turned down assignment to Enterprise-E for personal reasons, also he served with and under several of Starfleet's most famous or rather infamous officers like Captain and later Admiral James T. Kirk as well as Captains Spock, Hikaru and Demora Sulu as well as many others including Lieutenant and later Captain Leonard James Akaar, he also served with Captain Vance Haden who would later become an Admiral, Lt. Elias Vaughn who would later become XO of DS9 and among many others was Commander Ian-Andrew Troi, whom Tolian became close to among many others like Captain Rachael Garret, Captain Worf and Captains Picard and La Forge. His mentor was Shireen Yamaguchi and he served with her for much of the four years war, losing her was a blow he would never truly recover from, when her ship, the USS Mohawk vanished shortly after the war, this solidified in Tolian a ferocious hatred of the Klingons. A grudge he would never fully let go. Tolian was deeply saddened to learn of Ian's Death on Rakal V and he requested a Transfer off the Carthage because the ship held too many memories for him like the failed romance he'd had with Commander Wai-Lin Li and so he transferred onto the Enterprise-C under the command of Rachel Garret. Brevik decided that he needed a change of pace so he transferred into the medical corps, he spent five years at starfleet academy training before shipping out on the USS Berlin, an older Excelsior class starship routinely handling medical assignments before she was refitted back to being a combat vessel in 2364. In early 2361, a minor incident took place that Tolian himself nicknamed after himself, calling it the Brevik Incident. In which Tolian requested a demotion from Commander back down to Lieutenant as he felt this would enable him a better chance of landing starship assignments rather then be forced to serve on bases. His commanding officer at the time thought he was nuts but Tolian pointed out that he had a century of career time in starfleet and it was an advantage that most simply lacked. His request was granted and he was demoted back to Lieutenant. Over the next several years Brevik began to take an interest in ship design so he transferred over to the USS Nebula and he later transferred over to the Enterprise-D as a Junior Engineer in 2365 as he'd learned that Lieutenant La Forge had specifically requested him. In 2367 after spending a couple of years dealing with the Borg Attack and the Battle of Wolf 359, Tolian decided that he'd follow in his mentors footsteps and earn for himself his own Command. Tolian transferred into the Operations track as was customary for one that wanted to go into the Command at the time and he served as part of the Operations department on several ships, named the Phoenix , Dauntless and the USS Enterprise-E. He also spent the better part of the Dominion War, the second Borg attack as well as the Klingon War on the one assignment as he now had to adjust to a wartime footing as did the rest of the Federation. Tolian was transferred when he was Promoted to Commander and XO of the USS Ardent and a year later, had his mentor been there he would have been proud to see Captain Tolian Brevik take formal command of the USS Marquand. She was an older Excelsior class but she'd do, in Tolian's own words as he decided to settle down and start a family. Unfortunately, his greatest trial was yet to come when the USS Marquand was destroyed by the Breen in a six on one engagement in the Corbantis System, the Marquand held her own by destroying two of the Breen attackers but it was a losing battle from the start with Captain Brevik escaping with only thirty-five survivors from a crew of over 300. The battle took place at the end of 2389 but the board of inquiry was turned into a circus as unforeseen issues popped up and while he was cleared of any wrongdoing, it still left a foul smell. Tolian resigned his commission after the court-martial. He was cleared of the charges but in his eyes he was still guilty so he decided to take some time away from Starfleet to get his life in order, the records don't really saw where Tolian ended up but he came back to the colors in very late 2390 and rather then be was reinstated at his previous rank of Captain. Tolian requested reinstatement at the rank of Lieutenant as he wanted something with less responsibility for now 'Maybe that'll change someday but.... not now. Not with people like Nechayev around." Starfleet honored his wishes and reinstated him at the rank of Lieutenant and quietly assigned him to the USS Roanoke, however, life quickly got in the way and he was asked to have his rank restored due to the need for good carrier Commanders. Brevik reluctantly agreed and assumed command of the USS Solemn Penance, one of the new Champion Class fleet carriers now entering service. |
