| Personal History | Kira was born in 2362 at Starfleet Academy to Paul Antilles and Andrea Crane while the two were still at the academy, they welcomed their third of four children as they set about raising their family with love and affection. Untimely it was not to last as good things sometimes never do. They would grow up around Starfleet Ships and bases so Kira would acquire that innate skill with Starfleet Equipment that only someone raised around the service could acquire. It was natural that Kira would enter Starfleet and in 2380, she applied and was accepted to join the 2380 class of the fall semester and she went with the blessing of her father as her mother was dead. Kira arrived in San Francisco in early 2380 to begin her prep and study, she knew that the Federation would soon be going off to war once again as the Borg threat had not receded, but rather it had grown with the passage of time. Kira went into medicine as a means of study and also to step out of her parent's shadows, she graduated in 2384 and was assigned to Starbase Nineteen where she would remain for four years, ascending the rank ladder as she became better at her craft over time. It was here that she met a man named Stephen Dixon, the two of them hit it off rather well but they kept their relationship quiet as they didn't need to telegraph their presence or their intentions to anyone else nearby. A year later along came their first of three children and a year later that, came twins. Kira and Stephen also got married around this time before he was reassigned to the Pathfinder II Class ship, the USS Relentless-E. Kira decided she needed to stretch her wings a little, so she stuck in for reassignment to the Relentless, the slot of Chief Medical Officer was open so Kira nabbed it. Kira's service on the Relentless was noteworthy but she was on the bridge when the ship was ambushed by several Breen ships. Captain Renee Bruel found herself being incapacitated and Kira assumed command as the Exec at the time was elsewhere on the ship, but what Kira or Renee didn't know was that he had been killed in action so Kira ended up becoming the replacement Executive Officer. Stephen only encouraged her to chase it, she didn't want to run over her husband as he was technically next in line. He reassured her that he was happy as long as he served with his wife. Six months later Renee dropped her transfer papers. Starfleet didn't feel that Kira was ready so they assigned a new commanding officer to the Relentless. Captain Alyssa Benton was assigned to the ship and she knew she was inheriting a ship that the Exec did not get command of. Alyssa and Kira formed an unexpected friendship when Alyssa said that if Kira stayed as her Exec, then Benton would see to it that when the chance came again, that Kira would not be screwed a second time out of what she thought of as her rightful command. This event won over the critics and won Benton the proper respect of her crew. When the Relentless-E was decommissioned and retired, the entire crew all followed Benton over to the newly commissioned USS Relentless-F. A Kumari-class starship. Kira's justification was simple, she wasn't ready for her own command just yet and she wished to learn more from the expert. Benton was happy to keep her for a time longer but she made it clear to Kira that Benton herself was owed nothing and when the chance came, to take it and then go write her own legends rather than play second fiddle to someone else. Kira promised to consider it. She then discussed it with her husband who was only too happy to support her in whatever choice she made. Kira accepted the choice to become the ship's first officer, an assignment she kept through Relentless-E's decommissioning and Relentless-F's commissioning. However, due to protocol Two-Ninteen. Kira was forced to make a choice. Accept reassignment because of her children or force her husband to accept the same. She decided that she would leave and take the kids with her, sacrificing her career for them, as she had done before. She and her husband were parted as he remained aboard the Relentless and she was reassigned elsewhere. Kira calmed the anger of the rest of the crew, citing that Benton had fought for her, rather than try and get rid of her and that she was leaving because of the kids, not in spite of them or her career. The crew respected her choice and her decision. Benton said that Kira would always be welcome aboard the Relentless, either as her first officer or her successor. Whichever came first. |
