Personality & Traits

General Overview Jennifer "Karax" McKnight is a highly experienced engineer, she is also a deeply devoted mother.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths: Karax is able to fix just about anything and build anything out of just about nothing. She is highly skilled at her craft.

Weaknesses: She dotes on her kids and grand-kids a little too much.
Ambitions To be a good mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. all in that order. She isn't too worried about her career at this point as she has everything she wants.
Hobbies & Interests Karax is a woman who mixes work with play, you can find her wearing a skimpy bathing suit on a holosuite as she's reading technical manuals. Other then that she'll try anything with just about anyone.

Personal History Karax was born in 2329 on Starbase Eleven and she was raised for the first few years of her life by her father who was based on Starbase Fifteen, orbiting Andoria.

It was here where she was raised alongside her various siblings but what pissed off all of her siblings including Stephen and Daniel was that mom and dad were both never around, sometimes she was gone for months at a time or he was gone for the same amount of time.

Stephen who was the third child born, decided he wanted to enlist in starfleet to see what serving was like, to all accounts he loved it which was why Daniel followed him two years later into the academy, it was the same with Jennifer as she went off to the academy.

By all accounts she hated her time at the academy, finding out that the service was overdone and overhyped. It didn't help that she had to deal with a woman named Marie LaSteel who by all accounts was an oversexed misogynistic woman which was outright unusual but this instructor emerged as a direct threat to Jennifer McKnight's chances of graduating the academy with honors.

Marie LaSteel regected Jennifer McKnights work out of hand, no explination given so Jen decided to call Marie on her horsecrap. She went to the Dean of Students about it who began looking into the matter.

LaSteel then proceeded to fail McKnight where as she passed all of the men in the class without even thinking twice. The situation got worse when two of them failed the Kobayashi Maru test rather dismally yet when McKnight took the test she did far better and thanks to her knowledge of ancient Vulcan she was able to provoke a challenge to the cloaked Romulan commander as the Klingon's were now allies so the bad guy was recast as Romulans.

Jennifer broke the system when she belted out a challenge for personal combat one on one with the Romulan commander in Ancient high Vulcan, taught to her by her mother whom she missed. But Jen McKnight knew what she wanted and she was determined to fight for it.

LaSteel was told more or less to watch what she was doing and this only ended up causing her more issues with Jen McKnight who went from her second year to her third year at the academy. Jen ended up in LaSteel's languages class where the two only fought and bickered over McKnight's skills in Old High Vulcan.

LaSteel knew she had screwed up when she slapped McKnight one morning, she had lit the fuse on their situation and it was now about to blow. McKnight caught her hand as LaSteel went to hit her a second time. "That was a mistake." the younger woman responded before she hauled off and hit LaSteel back with such force that she broke the older woman's jaw.

Needless to say both women ended up in the medcenter as a result of their confrontation but as McKnight had already taken measures needed to deal with the situation, she was slapped with a reprimand and sent on her merry way, also she was reassigned to another class but then she stuck in a request to transfer to another academy, this request was granted and off she went to Earth. She never found out what happened to LaSteel and nor did she care.

Her time at the academy on Earth was far more productive with far fewer issues and she ended up graduating with honors. Also while she was at Earth she met a fellow cadet named Jacob Keyes and the two started a relationship that they kept rather subtle and quiet.

Most cadets tended to have their relationships loud and visible. McKnight and Keyes did nothing of the sort so nobody thought they were dating. A few of their friends however knew the truth and in their amusement of the facts, they kept it to themselves, seeing no need to share it with others.

Both of them were a year apart so she graduated first but only now did she truly understand what her mother, T'Sara had gone through twenty or so years earlier when she was separated from her father, whom T'Sara had also met while at Starfleet academy.

To make matters worse was that Jacob Keyes was an orphan so he knew what being alone truly meant but the two made things work while Jen McKnight started her career while being assigned to Starbase 182 which was an older Regula II Class station. To her the design was boring and cheep but she decided she was going to do something about it so in her spare time she began drawing up plans for a new design of Starbase.

Over the next few years the design work consumed her almost waking hour off of duty while Jacob Keyes supported her while he assisted her with the design. Their relationship was stuck in neutral and almost got canceled altogether but in the end he sat her down and asked her straight out what she wanted from their relationship, to her endless credit she saw exactly where he was going and she cursed herself for not seeing it before, she quickly finished the last few items on the design and then sent it off to Starfleet for working up.

Her design went through the system and ended up becoming known as the Hightower class starbase, an evolved version of the older Watchtower design from a century earlier. It would however take another ten years or so before the resources would become available to start building the new base class.

Meanwhile McKnight finally had the time to herself to plan her next move but before anything could happen, she became pregnant with her first child so Jacob proposed to her, also he decided that he would take her last name rather then have her take his last name. He became Jacob McKnight rather then her become Jennifer Keyes. This for her was a major surprise but she embraced it rather then reject his gift to her.

She remained on the starbase for another year but this was when the new uniform design came out which made her feel almost undressed, it revealed all of her curves and at times she felt naked while wearing it, she went from wearing red to yellow all at once, the new uniform changed everything in the fleet and her too.

Jen decided to put the issue aside and focus on her work and her ever growing family as children two, three and four quickly followed their first in rapid succession but all things needed to end so she was promoted then transferred to the USS Euphrates, one of the first few Nebula class ships to be commissioned into the Federation fleet.

Her service aboard this ship was noteworthy as she was their first Chief Engineering officer but then she had worked for it and had proven herself time and time again while on her last assignment. She served here for five years and it was here that her children called this ship their home and its crew their friends.

Her next assignment was the older Excelsior class vessel, USS Amazon and she wasn't permitted to take her family with her so they went with their father back to Starbase 42 where the Amazon was homeported, she did not enjoy this assignment a she felt she should as she almost always locked horns with her skipper, a man named John LaSteel. he was a strict by the book authoritarian who as some put it was as tough as nails.

He was the eldest son as Marie LaSteel who McKnight clashed with years earlier while she was a student at the academy, once McKnight found this out, she stuck in for reassignment as she didn't even try to work things out, mostly because she was not prepared to deal with the drama that would ensure.

Captain LaSteel was curious about the matter between his Chief Engineer and his mother years earlier so he decided to try and find out what happened, needless to say his efforts were not well received by McKnight herself and his mother also wasn't interested so he decided to refuse McKnight's request to leave the ship until he had gotten the matter addressed then sorted out.

This provoked a rather aggressive response from McKnight as she did not received his intentions well at all on any level whatsoever, as she resented his intrusion into what was a matter that she was keen to forget about.

It took a while but Captain LaSteel was able to elicit the truth of the matter from his Chief Engineer and needless to say he was not happy with his mother's actions years earlier as he decided to ask his Chief to stick around a little longer, she decided that she would but the point was moot as about a year later she was offered the chance to become the Executive officer of the Nebula class USS Shadow. She accepted and off she went to this new ship of the line.

One of the more interesting missions of the USS Shadow was that it met a version of herself from another quantum universe where the Federation was an empire ad not a grouping of various nation-states into one. It was here where she inherited twins from another version of herself who was kept as little better than a sex slave before she finally died from our Jen putting her out of her misery rather than allowing her torment to continue. the ISS Shadow however returned to her universe without getting what they wanted and that was the tech from the USS Shadow.

Jennifer McKnight found herself raising two more babies in addition to her small army of children but all of this changed as she was promoted to Captain and offered the chance to have her own command, the USS Audacious. She accepted and so off she went to her first and last command, though she didn't know it at the time.

She would command the Audacious through the Federation's first meeting with the Dominion, the second Borg attack, the Federation-Klingon War of 2373 and lastly the Dominion War.

She would send the twins home to remain with their father so she could fight the Dominion War. Buy this point the majority of her children were all adults themselves and many joined Starfleet to fight their enemies. It was during the Dominion War that she was informed of the death of her second child, Alexander who had died during the battle of Coridan.

His death set something loose in Jennifer McKnight, a fury that was terrible to witness and too terrible to understand, she had become someone who sought to avenge her young son, her baby slain before his time, her rage began to boil and within weeks she began showing just what a motivated Captain with the right ship and crew could do.

A Dominion convoy was sent to reinforce the Dominion's hold on Betazed, she was able to attack the convoy and demolish half of it before withdrawing then she attacked a major Dominion base in the Cueller system, she used a focused tractor beam to generate a massive steller eruption. The effect was a truly enormous coronal mass ejection that glassed one planet and torched another, setting its atmosphere itself on fire and reducing it to a lifeless cinder.

It was this action that garnered her a great deal of respect from the Klingons assigned to her force. The Federation had little choice but to leave the matter alone but the effects on Jennifer themselves were simply devastating as she only now realized that she had become a monster.

Then came the attack on New Beijing. The colony was almost undefended but she took the Audacious there to lend assistance as she got word the Colony had been attacked, the Jem'Hadar went in and began slaughtering thousands, her fury came back and she was able to destroy the battleship in orbit, then she began beaming out all Jem'Hadar signals and beamed them into the orbital space where they could float down into the planet's atmosphere on their own as lifeless husks.

Six Jem'Hadar attack ships jumped the Audacious, she outright destroyed two and was forced to flee the scene as the remaining Jem'Hadar began a small scale orbital strike.

The Audacious withdrew to the planets moon before she was able to pick off the two Jem'Hadar attack ships that were chasing them then she returned and the battle was very one sided as Audacious demolished the two remaining attack ships then forced the two Galor class cruisers to flee before she destroyed one and drove the other into the atmosphere of the systems class J gas giant before Jen had the Cardassian's engines destroyed, so the Cardassians attempted to board the Audacious.

The attempt failed as Jen ordered a nuke beamed over to the Cardassian ship. It was the first effort she used as a transporter bomb but it wouldn't be the last and across many battles yet to come she claimed thousands of Jem'Hadar kills among her tally of victories.

When the war ended, her rage had caused her to physically age ten years in two. She didn't look healthy anymore as she looked emaciated and gaunt. Her husband and the rest of her family were shocked at the changes in their mother and sister but they understood why when she told them what happened to her child who didn't come home.

Jen realized she couldn't carry on as she needed to lay her son to rest and her demons too so she dropped her retirement papers and she had her Executive officer promoted to Captain. Commander James Sloane would succeed her as Captain of the Audacious, she asked him to look after their crew and she departed quietly in the middle of the night, no need for anything formal but her crew didn't let her go without throwing her a goodbye party. It was then that Jen realize that she had come to be loved by this unusual mix of men and women under her command.

Jen couldn't stay. Even if they wanted her to do so so she made her new home on Prophets Landing, her husband would join her there as he decided to take a leave of absence from Starfleet to help her sort herself out. Jen would have nightmares about the Dominion War for many years yet to come, whats worse was that both her and Jacob knew it too.

It was around this point that Jen McKnight became pregnant again, this time with a daughter that both she and her husband would name Prynn, it was this child that helped Jen McKnight sort out her issues more then anything else and eventually Jen decided to rejoin Starfleet, not as a Command officer even if she did technically still hold the rank of Captain but she wanted to become an Engineer, to return to her roots as it were.

She was offered the chance to rejoin at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and her assignment was to a Starbase this time. Starbase 67 which at the time was the command base for the Seventh Fleet, she accepted and off she went, after selling her home and everything in it.

Her assignment here lasted four years and t was more of a reminder then anything else of what she loved about starfleet then anything else, her next assignment after that was Starbase 39-Sierra along the Romulan border and it was here that she watched as the Alliance between the Federation and the Romulans crumbled.

She was present to watch the events of the Hobus supernova unfold and the aftermath of the most dangerous event in the entire quadrant unfold, the Federation's attempts to help and the Romulans self-destruction.

Jennifer McKnight stuck in for reassignment, it was approved and her next assignment was the USS Silent Witness, an older Pathfinder II that went out on a two-year exploration mission away from the Federation. She came back in 2391 the mission was a success.

McKnight was offered the opportunity to become the new Chief Engineer on a new class of Starbase just under construction called Watchman and she accepted so once again McKnight packed her bags and off she went to her newest assignment.

McKnights assignment to Watchman lasted only a year as she was instrumental in bringing the base online and helping to make it fully operational. Her next assignment came in rather suddenly so she was asked to resume her rank of Captain, with that out of the way, she went off to the new USS Roanoke-A as their new Chief of Engineering.
