Personality & Traits
General Overview | Elaithin Jii is a generally likable man, who frequently smiles. He is noted for his sense of humor. He's noted for a little bit of recklessness in his command style. He cares about his crew most of all, and would stop short of nothing to keep the people under his command safe. He's something of an idealist, despite all he's been through. He still believes that all the universe is waiting on is the right people to come along and set things right. Jii realizes he can't do that all by himself... but he'll damned sure try. Jii has spent the majority of his formative years during the Cardassian Occupation. During the occupation itself, Jii was active in the resistance against the occupying Cardassians, but spent largely simply in the attempt to remain long enough to get the next meal. He doesn't bear the near-traditional hatred of Cardassians, though. It's reduced to a general dislike as a result of his roommate at the academy having been the first Cardassian in Starfleet, Elim Sivek. He'll give anyone a chance. Jii now refuses to hold the actions of a race against any individual. He also has a voracious appetite for knowledge-- and can often be seen reading the latest dispatches from the Federation News Service, and anything else he can get his hands on. By no means is he a bookworm, however. Jii was very active as a teen, and later at the Academy. He managed to stay out of trouble at the Academy, though. He's always loved history and design, however, and is enamored with the records of when Bajor was a major power in the days of the T'Kon Empire. He is also working on a starship design, which he plans to eventually submit to the ASDB at Utopia Planetia. Jii is very easy going, and the way he deals with you depends on the way you deal with him. Jii has seen a great deal of tragedy in his life, and how he bears up under all of it is a mystery even to him. His losses at times can weigh him down but it was the death of Jordan that damn near destroyed him. The Bajoran Captain is also very religious, maintaining a shrine to the Prophets in his Quarters. Also, his former roommate and Security partner, Rotan Heratta, spent large amounts of time training the smaller Bajoran in the complex Nausicaan Martial Arts. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: He's an idealist and he'll go to any lengths to protect those under his command. Weaknesses: He still deals with the after effects of his wife's death. Also he has issues raising two children alone. |
|
Ambitions | To be the best Captain he can, to be a good role model for those around him and to help others as best as he can. Special Notes: It is highly suggested that you call him Captain Elaithin, and not Captain Jii, as Bajoran custom puts the family name first and the personal name last. He is not fond of people who get this wrong more then once. |

Personal History | Jii grew up in the city of Takaras on Bajor, the son of Elaithin Keri, widowed when he was six years old. Aside from that, he has a brother, Pel, who is a Vedek. His father and baby sister, a girl by the name of Elaithin Lena, were believed lost when the Cardassin Military attacked the communal home that the family shared with several others, believing it to be a cell of the Bajoran resistance. Later, at the age of 11, Jii became a member of the resistance, for several years, until he escaped Bajor. His mother was a very successful artist, and instilled a passion for literature in the young Bajoran, before he left to join the resistance. She and his brother, however, were also pacifists. Jii left home when he was eleven, joining the Cor-Antha cell located in Takaras. His mother and brother's pacifist ideals never sat well with the young man, though he maintained some limited contact with them. He killed his first Cardassian at the age of fourteen, in as much as accident as anything else. His years in the Bajoran Resistance were a harrowing time for Jii, marked by tragedy. He does not speak much of them, even to this day. In late 2364, Jii was heavily involved with a fellow Bajoran named Liira Aire. Both were members of the same resistance cell, and were involved in a caretaking assignment - shepherding two dozen children to safety aboard the freighter Auriga. Aire, unfortunately was left behind, having served as a distraction to let the freighter - and Jii and the kids - escape. Unknown to either at this time, Aire was pregnant with Jii's son, who she named Toryl. However he didn't quite know what to do with his life. And so he applied for, and was accepted to, Starfleet Academy. The Academy was an eye-opening place for Elaithin. Indeed, it functioned as almost a cathartic release to the angry young man he'd been when he came there, and the balanced, passionate, generally happy man he was when he graduated. While at the Academy, Elaithin developed a passion for theater and design, and also for the Terran sport of "snowboarding." Indeed, at graduation, his mother was amazed at the changes in him. His brother Pel, unsopportive of Jii's decision to join Starfleet, when so much needed to be done on Bajor, did not come. The two have not spoken since. His first assignment was on board the USS Kongo where he served for six months before being reassigned to the USS Galaxy. After five months in the Galaxy's Operations Department, Elaithin began to realize that if he ever wanted to command a starship, he would have to vary himself more and gain experience in all departments. As a result of this decision, he transferred to Security and was partnered with his roommate, Ensign Rotan Heratta, a Nausicaan. In early 2375, Jii received a promotion to Lieutenant junior grade while serving on board the USS Galaxy during the Dominion war. After the Dominion War, During humanitarian efforts on Cardassia Prime, Elaiithin took a point-blank phaser shot to the abdomen, and required three months recovery at home with his family on Bajor. A few months later he returned to the USS Galaxy, and within a short time earned his promotion to Full Lieutenant. Towards the end of 2375, Elaithin volunteered to serve as part of Admiral Thomas J. Casey's task force of Akira class vessels heading into the Romulan Neutral Zone. Elaithin served on board the USS Leonard McCoy as Chief Tactical Officer. In recognition for his distinguished service, Starfleet awarded Elaithin with the Medal of Valor upon his return to the USS Galaxy. Elaithin attended Starfleet's Advanced Tactical School in late 2376 and has just recently returned from his training. A few months after his return, Lieutenant Elaithin was critically injured by the Borg, loosing his right hand. The hand was replaced with an artificial one, which twitches when he is annoyed. Also on this mission, Jii was reunited with the sister he believed dead, Lieutenant Elaithin Lena, Chief Engineer of the Starship Lakota. Lena was beamed aboard the Galaxy as a casualty during a battle with the Borg, and the two were reunited when she needed a blood transfusion. In late 2377, Elaithin was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned as the new Chief of Security on board the USS Galaxy. Strangely, Elaithin was relieved of his duties as Chief of Security of the USS Galaxy and reassigned by Starfleet Command in December 2377. No explanation was given as to why Elaithin, and several other officers including the Captain, were relieved of their duties on board the USS Galaxy. Rayna was promoted to Chief Security Officer by the new CO, Captain John Brhode. Jii, now a Lt Commander and the Galaxy's Chief of Security, didn't recognize Jordan upon his reunion with her. It had been years and she was undercover. Her assistance with the Ianjep Incident was pivotal in not only the resolution of the situation but also reignited the spark that had existed between them. The problem was, she couldn't tell him who she really was: the female intelligence officer he'd almost fallen in love with on Gyndine. She had to stick to her cover. Shortly after Price was severely wounded on lanjep, Serpico recalled Jordan to earth, and After carrying out a classified assignment for Starfleet Command, Elaithin was reassigned back to the USS Galaxy to his former position as Chief of Security. Late in 2378 he was promoted to Commander and assigned as Executive officer of the USS Ajax, a Nebula class deep space vessel. Serpico, knowing Murdock's involvement with 13, decided to tap Jordan, who as it turns out, was already had a relationship with Jii to investigate but for three months, Jii believed her to be advancing, taking her career in a new direction. It was around this time that she became pregnant with twins. It gave her a slight amount of legitimacy but it also strained her relationship with Jii. They broke up for a short time, but Jii eventually proposed and they married October 27, 2379, in a small ceremony at Jii's family home on Bajor. She chose to officially take his name, though she continued to go by simply Jordan as it kept things simple between her and everyone else. Serpico was not thrilled with her decision: it was coming clear to him that Jii was the new Handler of Section 13 operatives. Jordan and Jii were among them. The USS Ajax was badly mauled in a battle with several pirate vessels, mostly re-purposed Breen warships lost during the Dominion War. While the Ajax was crippled, she was able to destroy or cripple the entire pirate force. Elaithin Jii was offered the chance to command the USS Miranda-B after Captain Victor Murdock was reassigned and promoted into the admiralty and out of the Captain's chair. Despite some small reservations of his own, Jii accepted the promotion to command one of Starfleet's most noteworthy ships of recent years. After more than a year in command of the Starship Miranda, Jii has more than settled into the role of Ship's Captain. In mid-2379, Jii and Jordan broke up for a time, but ultimately resolved things and got back together. For three months after that, Jii was assigned to Starfleet Command for an interim period, where the Miranda underwent it's standard three-month refit and repair, on the third anniversary of it's commissioning. Early 2380 brought a large surprise into Jordan and Jii's marriage, when Commander Ro Laren of DS9 discovered a boy with a DNA match to Jii aboard the station. The boy was Elaithin Toryl, Jii's fourteen year old son that he didn't even know he had. Jii and Jordan accepted custody of the boy, and Jii is trying to make amends to his son by being the best father he possibly can. Despite the risks, he has elected to keep his son with him aboard the Miranda, not wishing to be separated from him ever again. Jordan spent two years, according to her own physical calendar, in 1920s New York, while only a year passed for the twins and only three days for Jii thanks to a passing encounter with a temporal anomaly which the Miranda and her crew were able to close and rescue all of their missing people. Jordan left the Miranda believing Jii the Handler of S31, while Jii believed the same thing about her. However, Jii was correct about her. Serpico arrived at the location at the same time as Jii, mostly recovered from his phaser stun. All was revealed and Jordan was exonerated. Serpico was imprisoned and Jordan assisted Murdock, Jii, and the mysterious "Slim" in exposing the section. However, it only took Jii a night. The revelations and experience has only made their marriage stronger. The Elaithins spent the bulk of the next several months putting the pieces of their relationship back together, something not made easy in the events that followed them. First, the universe around the Miranda was altered to become one where a Vulcan Empire based upon violence has enslaved most of the quadrant. Jii and the Miranda orchestrated a human rebellion against the Vulcan Empire, and then set out to find the Guardian of Forever in effort to restore the universe to what they knew. The Miranda had been destroyed with all hands on board lost in a battle with the Vulcans. Jii succeeded and the universe was reset, with all hands once again living. The Captain, however, was less lucky -- he had struggled with an Operative and was nearly killed. To minimize the maximum exposure to the crew, Jordan and Jii boarded the USS Indianapolis to rescue lost crewmen. As the Captain, Jii was prepared to make this ultimate sacrifice for the good of the crew and the quadrant, but as they were saying good-bye, Jordan switched their comm badges. Jii was beamed back to the Mississippi while Jordan materialized on the USS Colorado but she was dead on arrival. Jordan's death nearly destroyed Jii. Jii resigned from Starfleet and as Captain of the Miranda. He was replaced by Captain Christopher Summers. Jii's goals were to seek a way to restore her rather then simply let her go, he tried various ways and it was only through an Orb experience on Bajor that he both succeeded and failed. Within his Orb Experience, Jii spoke to the Prophets and asked for Jordan's return. While they could not restore her, they did assist him with the agony of her passing. Once Elaithin Jii realized that she was not coming back and he would never succeed at his mad quest, he slowly over time learned to live with it, it took him the better part of three years to do so and once he was able to handle it. Elaithin Jii requested to return to Starfleet, his service record stood him in good stead and he was permitted to return at his previous rank but he was not permitted to return as Captain of the USS Miranda. He was instead assigned to command Starbase 23 with three ships assigned to the base. However, his desire was to be out exploring space and not cooling his heels on a space-station so in early 2392 he stuck in for reassignment to one of the new Pathfinder III's coming out of the shipyards. His request was granted and off he went to the new USS Pillar of Autumn. Now single and raising two children alone. |
