Personal History | Alan Masters was born on Deneva on the 3rd of March, 2348. He spent his childhood on the outskirts of many of Deneva's towns and cities with his interests looking at good tilled Earth rather then looking towards the stars. Had the Borg attack of 2367 not happened, its most likely that Alan Masters would have settled down and become a simple farmer, his deeds only recorded in the good earth of Deneva, however this was not to be as the Borg attack woke something terrible in this young man, a rage that would never fully clear given time. He enlisted as soon as heard about the fall of the USS Lalo and the destruction of the New Providence Colony, however he was far far too late to really join in the battle in the Wolf System later that year, as he had only been in training a week. That was peacetime and now the Federation was at war against a foe it could not understand as there was simply no information about the Federation to contend with. While in boot and on several assignments, Masters deliberately set things up so he was the man who was last and thus had to be left behind, he always made it back to base however. Another incident saw all of the Marines arrive together and when the Lieutenant insisted that someone stay behind, Masters decked him with enough force to break his jaw and smash his nose almost flat. The charges were dropped when the Major got involved as the exercise was cited to promote teamwork however Masters was warned to never do it again. Masters finished his time at boot and he was sent to his first posting, Starbase Fourteen where he got to make his mark as a young enlisted man, always looking for extra work and doing extra assignments. Over time his service record became impeachable as he never asked anything of anyone else that he wasn't about to do himself, he fought the Borg for the first time during the Second Borg attack, he also got to fight the Cardassians in various boarder skirmishes, the Klingons during the Federation-Klingon War of the early twenty three seventies and the Dominion War in the mid seventies. Also Alan Masters earned himself a commission for bravery on the battlefield. He served with Admiral Bremer during the war in an incident the two men sometimes refer to as the 'Danvers Incident.' In which both men discovered things about the other which they hated passionately. A Borg cube ambushed a small Federation force and Admiral Bremer wanted to withdrew while using the Pegasus to shield the other and sometimes more capable ships from the Borg's fire, thus keeping the glory of the kill for himself. Masters protested citing that that the Dreadnought didn't have her main weapons online. While the two men were unable to sort out their dispute, Masters beamed over to the USS Danvers which was in the process of being assimilated by the Borg to evacuate her crew and finaly, to detonate her warp core as an inprovised bomb. The plot worked and Masters and his marines were credited with saving more then eight hundred lives as only a few people were lost from the USS Danvers. Bremer protested as he was the commander of the battlegroup, he had been denied his chance to showcase his skills and claimed that Masters had disobeyed orders, which he had given none. The record proved Masters account, however Masters was quick to request assignment, something that Admiral Bremer was forced to give him. To this day, both men openly hate and despise each other. It was after the Dominion War when he met a young Lieutenant named Saki On-Sang, she was serving as a tactical officer on the USS Topeka, an Akira class ship that Masters was assigned to, the two of them hit it off and were married about a year later, right before Colonel Walther wanted Major Masters for his own command and the two men formed an almost unbreakable friendship. It was serving with Marc Walther, that gave Alan Masters a real purpose in life as he followed the other man through his career and it was also General Walther who recommended General Alan Masters to Rear Admiral Jake Yamaguchi when Jake asked 'Who do you recommend for the Marine skipper in IFO. I need someone who's not a careerist." "Oh. I got only one man for the post, you'll love him." Jake response was blunt. "If he's anything like Carl Patterson. That's all I ask." The chat was short as Walther introduced the two men. Masters decided he liked Jake instantly considering the Yamaguchi's weren't known for their subtlety and Yamaguchi liked Masters because he wasn't an atypical marine. Since then, Masters has been settling into his new role as skipper of IFO's marine units with relish. |
