| Personal History | Colonel James "Gryphon" McTaggert was born in 2347 on the human colony world of Cannae, this was a warm and wet world which was somewhat larger then Earth, it was closer to its star but it had two large moons, both orbited the main planet in wildly different orbits, he grew up under the twin moons and he grew to love living on this world. Where peace reigns, so does war and this world would be no different. James came face to face with the Cardassians when they attacked his world and they seized the colony and everyone on it so many went into the woods and decided to carry on the fight from the forests, the planet has a lot of kelbonite and fistrium which blocked sensors so James went into the woods along with most who escaped. James and his guys spent the better part of a year resisting the Cardassian occupation of his homeworld and when Starfleet came, the resistance rose up and killed most of the Cardassians before they could do anything funny. James and the rest of the colonists then began rebuilding their homes, their world and their lives where James decided he wanted to ensure that something like this would never ever happen again. He went off to the academy in early 2364 and he learned a great deal while he was working here, showing his skills and earning the respect of his fellow troopers and instructors but showing he was willing to do the job, whatever it took and he graduated with honor. He went off to his first assignment, the Akira class USS Methven and it was here he learned a great deal more then what he learned while at the academy, he went into action against various pirates while on the usual patrol assignments McTaggert's time aboard the Kanagasaki was far more eventful as this was the ship where he fought the Klingons and a few others in one sitting but the ship was destroyed during the battle of Torros Three. McTaggert and the other survivors were able to flee the destruction of their ship and flee with the other ships as the Kanagasaki was used to ram the base's power generator, causing a massive conflagration which demolished the base. McTaggert was reassigned to the USS Peritheorion and it was here where he would fight the entire Dominion War, first shot to last in what he termed 'the greatest struggle of our time." He would participate in many of the major battles as the Peritheorion came through the war almost being destroyed or crippled over two dozen times yet her crew was able to keep the ship in the fight and come out the other end. In the end however the Federation won its victory, the damaged ships were sent back to shipyards for refitting or repairs and life slowly got back to normal for those on the winning side of things. McTaggert was sent on leave for a time. He went home to Cannae so he could reconnect with family and friends. He was home for three months and the time was great for him. He went back to the fleet a calmer and more collected person then he had been at the end of the war. His next few assignments were the usual. train the new guys, repair the ship, look after policing duties and make sure his marines didn't screw up but it was his assignment to the Courageous as her Marine Commanding Officer that one could call his most distinguished, here he showcased that he was more then just spit and polish several times as he ended up dating the chief conn officer as the two seemed to hit it off quite well. within weeks the two were dating and within months, they were married with twins on the way. Now McTaggert was settling down into the role of a father as Jake selected him to become his chief of staff, his wife Heather Walking Bear became the ships diplomatic officer as she was very good with people and calming down ruffled feathers which tended to happen a lot. In mid 2388 when the USS Courageous went in for her twenty year refit. The crew were all reassigned to the newly commissioned USS Song of the East. a Pathfinder II class ship straight out of the shipyard, today McTaggert remains in command of the Marine detachment of this ship. When the Song of the East went in for refitting to Renown class specs. He and the rest of the crew were reassigned to the Renown class USS Infinity as Marine Commanding Officer. |
