| Personal History | Shiamoon Emerson or Shiamoon Adim as she was born, was an only child born into the storm between her parents rage, he was an alcoholic weak man who was stuck in a marriage he hated because he had gotten Shaimoon's mother pregnant so in order for him to save face, he was stuck and he didn't have the moral fiber to stand his ground or move away so his life was a sham, a facade of decay and failings. Shiamoon was born in a slum in Cairo, Egypt on Earth in 2347 and she was thankfully an only child, her mother spent her time in fear of her husband as he would beat her but after Shaimoon came along this would all change as she quickly realized that he would shift his attention from her to her daughter, who while she was an infant, would be utterly helpless. One night when Shai was two years old, her father went berserk with rage as Shai was throwing a tantrum, he went into the kitchen and lifted a massive butchers knife as Hameeda knew without asking what was coming as she moved in to protect their daughter. Fate has its place and so does luck, skill also plays a part in various events. Hameeda was successful in protecting their daughter as she was forced to call the police regarding what had just happened, then she fell to her knees as she felt her lifeblood drain out of her and she died next to her daughter's bassinet as Shamoon was still crying. The police came and secured the now orphaned child and within weeks Shiamoon was placed with a much better family who was looking for a baby girl. Shiamoon Adim became Shiamoon Khouri and it was with this family that she was to grow and become a bright and intelligent young woman in her own right. Her family was a part of Starfleet and thus, she was able to join Starfleet when she went off to the academy in 2364, she went into the sciences and it was here where she discovered her true calling as she wanted to repay her adopted family for saving her from a life of pain and death, they had told her as they never sheltered Shai from her origins but they also made sure that she was loved and treasured. Shai as she was now commonly known as the short form of her full name, she found she preferred it and even started introducing herself as 'Shai' rather than 'Shiamoon'. Her time at the academy was hard and she worked through as best she could, dealing with various issues that seemed to keep coming up and at times it was never ending but in the end, she graduated fifteenth in her class. Her first assignment was to the Akira Class Starship, USS Bakersfield and it was here where she learned a great deal the academy could not teach her but her second assignment was what would really define her personal style, as an officer, as a woman, as a wife, and as a mother. It was here on the USS Trin'culo where she met her future husband who saved her life while on an away mission gone bad, rather than brush it off as a once in a chance happening, he expressed concern for her, this was the first time she had a fellow officer ever show her anything other than the cold shoulder that she had been getting from a lot of others, it was because she was cold and distant to just about everyone. Within weeks she and Paul Emerson were dating as he helped to melt the armor around her heart and within six months they were married with their first child on the way, she stayed beside her husbands side throughout the Dominion War, sending their children off to be looked after by her adopted parents as they were starbase commanders. It was because she and Paul were needed on the line. Two years later, a promotion and several medals and commendations later, the war ended and they were back to a peacetime deployment again, she went from the Canterbury to the North Point and then to the Robinson as her husband was promoted twice and her once. Her work, however, didn't suffer too much neglect as Shai learned ways to balance work and play as she became a mother to one then two then three and now one child as her others all left home, following their parents into the academy, just as she had done when she was younger. She was promoted to become the Chief Science Officer for the Eighteenth Fleet, based from Starbase 47 in the Taurus Reach and it's an assignment that she's enjoying greatly, her youngest child with her and her husband commanding the Starfleet presence out here. During the Starfleet Military Reorganization Act of 2391, her rank was moved from Rear Admiral to Division Admiral. It was not a demotion as it was simply an adjustment but two years later, she got her rank back as she was needed elsewhere. |
