| Personal History | Karis Gelon was a Cardassian woman who was born in 2359, on Cardassia Two and raised to believe the state was all knowing and all powerful, this illusion would be shattered on her tenth birthday when the Cardassian empire withdrew from Bajor and this would be the start of another seven years of hell for this little girl. She would grow up seeing her once mighty empire get crushed then conquered bloodlessly by the Klingons and by the Dominion respectively, this was where she lost her father, he died at the hands of the Klingons during their invasion so she and her mother tried to carry on as best they could. When she heard that Gul Dukat was now leading the Union, she celebrated like all of the others but she found herself wondering if warfare was all her people leadership knew, and without the Obsidian Order around. she could express these thoughts but she was warned to simply shut up and keep it to herself, just like in the days of old. When the Dominion War began and she was in her teen years, she and her mother found themselves being conscripted for medical duties for the Cardassian soldiers on the front lines. her mother and Karis herself were separated and reassigned to different worlds, Karis herself was assigned to Chin'Toka Three and her mother was stationed on Septimus Three where she was killed at the hands of the Klingons. Karis hated working for the Cardassian military as she was now an orphan. This was what reduced her status to almost nothing as she was forced out of the military, something she actually didn't mind but she was almost homeless and penniless as a result. During the fighting as the war raged on, she departed Cardassia two after selling all of her parents belongings and her own, minus two changes of clothes she kept, she then stole a ship and after loading several Federation prisoners which she stole from a prisoner transfer between a Cardassian Galor and a Jem'Hadar attack ship, she beamed a nuke over to the attack ship and fled. The Jem'Hadar went to pursue her but the explosion disrupted all sensors within ten million kilometers, she then set free the dozen or so prisoners and she took them back to the Federation where they allowed her to stay as a refugee. Karis hated the Union with a passion and she wanted Federation citizenship, she then applied for it and a year later it was granted, she then went back to school and finished her education under the watchful eye of Captain Stephen Caldwell who adopted her as one of his own. She went off to the academy after being accepted in 2377 as she went into the medical and counseling areas, they needed new people and would take anyone who came their way. Karis made a name for herself as being able to be compassionate but she didn't coddle anyone and she didn't suffer fools gladly but she was a caring woman, despite all that she had been through. Karis graduated in 2381 and was sent to Starbase 23, as far from Cardassian space as she could get which was fine by her, she made a name for herself here as someone who could get results and was able to help people with their issues, in so doing she was able to start working on her own issues at the same time. three years later she went to Starbase 54, another large starbase which assignment she relished, it was more of the same as she started to really calm down upon seeing the Federation wasn't full of the monster from her childhood and early teen years, she also began seeing through the lies she was force-fed by the Cardassian Union. She remained here for five years before being picked to become the Chief Counselor for the USS Alexander the Great because her Captain wasted someone who could think outside the box for that posting. Also, Karis has calmed down greatly thanks to a relationship that's developing between her and 1st Lieutenant Ryan Archer, she has found him to be a great source of strength to her. Ryan Archer was also instrumental in helping her to make what she knew to be the right decision. Now she serves aboard the USS Alexander the Great as she relishes the assignment, working with an unusual and eclectic crew is something that she finds invigorating. When the Alexander the Great went in for reassignment to a new Captain and crew because she was re-designated as a Light Cruiser rather than a Heavy Cruiser thanks to the military reorganization act. She and the rest of the crew were reassigned to the Guardian Class. USS Shield of Wolves. Here she remains with her spouse. |
