The colonist miners would often trade with Cardassian merchants or Bajor resistance fighters. When Olga was fifteen, the Borg invaded the Federation. Olga was eager to do her part in the defense of the Federation. She joined the Star Fleet Marines at seventeen years old. Olga was a competent Marine and quickly rose in rank. She married Jack Hassel, a Star Fleet officer. Together they had a son, Nikolai. Sergeant Vaal was stationed aboard the battleship Sun Sin Yi when the Dominion War broke out. The Yi was in the thick of the fighting early in the war. During the battle of Maldive III, the Yi was attacked by a larger Dominion fleet. Jem' hadar boarded several times and were each time repelled. Unable to capture the ship, the Dominion force hammered the Yi with weapons. A wounded Vaal was beamed off to another ship. The civilians on board were not able to leave and perished. One of them was Olga's son, Nikolai. She learned the bad news while recovering. She also learned her home planet of Narva VII was scoured by the Dominion. Her family and home were gone. Olga continued to fight the reat of the war with distinction and was eventually promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. After the war her life went downhill. Olga divorced Jack Hassel. She was latter busted down to private on a variety of charges. Her career would be a short cycle of success followed by a downfall in garrison or off duty. |
