The doors opened as Torilla Yamaguchi stood there only a moment before she entered. "Rachael, you up yet?" she called.
Rachael came around the corner, wearing a sweatshirt and jeans, a habit she had clearly picked up from Aryssa but it was one that seemed to suit her or so Torilla thought. "Yeah. I'm alive mom." the teen's voice came through her bedroom door as she smaller Yamaguchi emerged, her hair looked askew and she looked tired.
"What happened to you?" Yamaguchi inquired of her daughter.
"I stayed up late... Paul and I had .... homework." were the words the teen settled on, clearly not giving much thought to the matter, something Torilla caught onto almost instantly as the larger Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow as she regarded her youngest. "Indeed... was this homework... of a physical nature?" she asked with a knowing smile.
Rachael could see the ghost was up. "Umm... something like that." as she let out a soft sigh.
"Its not a bad thing." Torilla smiled. "It is what it is... but at least you decided to wait until you felt you were ready rather then rush headlong into it." Yamaguchi looked at her daughter. "You're not a small child and you can make your own decisions, I've never felt the need to lecture you or question those choices.... So long as you made them with a clear head.."
"Mom, I did wait but..."
Yamaguchi waited as Rachael explained herself, what she was thinking about and why she felt she did it, until a few minutes went by when Torilla finally lifted a hand to stop her daughter's almost panicked explanation. "You don't owe me an explanation Rachael, you forget... I am not human... and my species tends to mate later... your father and I raised you to think creatively and to be intelligent. Not to be rash and foolish... I was expecting you to have gone out and mated with him months ago... but you surprised me until after your bloom had ended..."
Rachael paused as she looked at her mother, a confused look on her face. "I don't understand. I thought I'd be in trouble..."
"Well that depends on what sort of trouble you are thinking about...." Yamaguchi responded. "However... you are not in trouble with me or your father.." she explained. "Captain Harrison-Pike, however, might be another matter... So... a word of caution to you young lady." Yamaguchi paused for effect, then she plodded forward. "I'd be careful around her for the next while, at least until she comes to terms with you and her son having sex."
"Yeah... I guess so..."
"Rachael... I'd look at this as a lesson in life if I were you, You do not have the Halanan mating issue that your sister and I have.... so be grateful.." she peered down at her daughter. "Do you at least bother to check first?"
Rachael suddenly got angry, she gave her mother a dark, evil look. "Of course I checked Mom, I know better, you and Dad impressed on me time and time again what could happen..." the annoyed teen regarded her mother. "I checked and I asked Tressa to make sure that I could have sexual relations without the Halanan baggage."
Yamaguchi was not surprised that her youngest would loose her temper so easily. "You did?." she inquired. "Good..... yes, very good."
"You didn't trust me to be able to handle things... did you?"
"Rachael, as smart and mature as you are, there are still several things you need to know about life, first is that not everyone else as up to your level... humans are generally a sexually immature species..."
Rachael crossed her arms over her chest as she glowered at her mother in indignation. "That is not a nice thing to say..."
Yamaguchi did not look impressed. "Trust me, I know how humans think dear... but then, my species is a whole mess of contradictions, we mate for life yet we don't have enough children to keep going..." the larger woman shrugged. "We hone our psionic skills yet we never get to use them." she then shrugged. "In the end Rachael, It doesn't matter as my species is slowly disappearing from the face of the universe... soon... we'll all be gone.."
"Mom. that's a horrible thing to say..." Rachael didn't realize the depth of her mother's problem until now. "I ummm." the teen stopped when she realized how foolish she sounded.
"There is nothing you can say, honey. I've said it all..." Yamaguchi responded with a smile. "Its something I came to terms with long ago..." she paused a moment. "but... that doesn't mean I have to like it."
"I guess so..." Rachael admitted, she opened her mouth to say more when the com beeped at them both. "Attention all senior staff, department heads and all assistant department heads, report to tactical astrometrics."
Yamaguchi sighed. "And so it is..." she commented. "Go on to school... So much for my day off.." and with that, she plucked her uniform jacket from the chair where she had left it the night before, she slipped it on and then she pulled on her boots and out the door she went.
