Mission:
Mission 3: Quantum of Solace
Location: Promenade - Starbase 400
Timeline: 1730Hrs - July 25th, 2388
Racheal looked up at Alex since it was just the two of them chatting outside the lounge. "Well with mom seemingly always off the station... do you have any objections if I stay with you guys?" she inquired.
"No, not at all."
"Well... it's just that Mom never made arrangements and my family won't be here long..." she explained.
"I understand completely. And if I'm not there, Vincent will be."
Racheal raised an eyebrow. "Paul mentioned his name to me before. Besides it
could always be worse.." and with that, the smaller girl smiled as an officer who looked well muscled and fit, he also smiled easily and often came around the corner and with that he looked down at what was his kin. "Racheal.. fancy meeting you here."
"Hi, Dad." Racheal handled the introductions. "Alex. this is my Dad, Captain Jake Yamaguchi." she turned. "Dad this is Captain Alex Harrison."
Jake smiled warmly at her. "Its good to meet you before I shipped out. My kids speak highly of you..." he looked down at Racheal. "I had to meet the legend they made you into."
"Me? A legend?" She laughed, "Well, I hope you both aren't disappointed."
Racheal smiled up at the older and larger woman. "Why would I be... you are
everything Paul told me you would be." she responded.
"Good. I try." Alex smiled.
Jake smiled. "Go on Racheal, go pester Paul for a while.... you know you've been dying to for hours." and with that, the small child turned and ran off, as Jake turned back to Alex. "Racheal mentioned meeting you earlier, she said you were not what she expected... she had expected the overprotective mother routine and... you respected her..." Yamaguchi explained. "I was surprised, Torilla was shocked..."
"Really. This is a Starbase. He's safe here. I should know. After all, I've trained most of the Security here. As for Racheal, I trust him with her more than I would anyone else. From the moment I met her, I liked her. She spoke to me with respect and I returned it. If she had treated me like crap, we'd be having a different conversation here."
Jake nodded. "Fair enough... Racheal is too young and too inexperienced to teach anyone... Torilla, on the other hand, would make an excellent teacher." he then smiled. "Racheal mentioned something about Paul's father... something about him being all-controlling or something like that... I think it was a slip of the tongue at the dinner table."
"My ex-husband divorced me when I decided that I didn't want to be a stay home mom who bows down to him. He pulled some strings and got custody of Paul. He vowed that he would never let Paul be like his mother. He thought my job was too violent. I think he hated the fact that he couldn't control me. And he took Paul away from me so he could control the one thing in his life he could, his son."
"Ahh... I couldn't do that to my children, it goes against everything I believe in... Torilla and I quickly realized that our children needed to be free to make their own choices, realize their path through life to wherever it may lead..."
"I couldn't agree more." Alex paused, "That's why I'm letting Paul decide if he wants a career in Starfleet or not. I don't want him choosing Starfleet just because I did. It needs to be what he wants. Unfortunately, my husband didn't give him choices. Whatever his dad said, you didn't argue. I'm not sure if Paul knows how to decide things on his own. I'm hoping your daughter will have a good influence on him."
Jake nodded. "Fair enough... Racheal tends to be rather selective about who she calls 'Friend.' She speaks very highly of him and both Gabriel and Beth have both met him and they both liked him instantly. Beth was expecting him to get angry with her when she was hitting on him and when he didn't, he earned her respect... so Paul has no shortage of fans in this household of mine." he smiled as another person appeared, this guy was similar in size and build to who was his father, except he had a darker skin tone and the blue eyes of his mother, he bowed from the shoulders as he pressed both fists together. "Father."
Jake returned the greeting as he smiled. "Son." and with that, he did the introductions. "Gabriel this is Captain Alex Harrison." he explained. "Alex, this is Cadet Gabriel Yamaguchi"
"Captain sir." he addressed her formally though he was out of his uniform. "Its a privilege to finally meet you." and with that, he offered his hand in the human custom. "Racheal has mentioned you to me... getting her onto the subject is easy.... getting her off of it again is a major accomplishment... " he paused as he addressed her, clearly he was letting her decide. "May I walk with you?"
Alex smiled and nodded, "Yes, you may Cadet."
Gabriel smiled. "Thank you." he turned to his father. "Dad. Beth and I are just finishing our packing... we'll be ready to depart within the hour."
Jake nodded. "Very well... I can have you and Beth back on Earth in three days.. so you'll have a day to yourselves before classes start again... so go spend a little time with Racheal. She and your mom are going to miss you guys.."
Gabriel nodded yet he did not leave but rather she turned his considerable attention to Alex. "Captain, If I may inquire... Did Racheal get intimidated by you?"
"Oh god, I hope not. She's a bright girl and she seems to be very self-efficient. I think that she may have intimidated me and that is hard to do,"
Jake smiled as he regarded the zaftig woman beside him. "Well Racheal has had to grow up quickly.. considering she is staying with her mother rather than being on the Courageous with me.." he commented. "she tells to be direct and not waste energy with being polite... so long as she behaves of course." Jake explained. "If she doesn't then don't hesitate to tell her...I know some people get weird about it but so long as you let Torilla know, all should be fine"
"Oh don't worry, I will. But I don't see any trouble in the future. Not unless Paul breaks up with her, then I'm sure that Racheal would beat the crap out of Paul." She smiled.
