The Ether - Part Three

Posted on Sat Mar 21st, 2020 @ 4:50am by Admiral Lil'yanna Olmos & Fleet Captain Racheal Yamaguchi

Mission: Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 1145Hrs - September 10th, 2393

Captain Rachael Yamaguchi moved down the hallway with direction and purpose, she was resolved to the mission she had assigned herself when suddenly she heard a voice calling her name, she almost skidded to a halt as she turned her head to find herself regarding a woman from her past, one who was now much older then she, herself was but then had Rachael not been assimilated by the Borg, she would look older then Olmos did now. "Lil'yanna Olmos. As I live and breathe. What are you doing here?"

"I came because I have a situation brewing... I need your help... Is there somewhere where we can go and talk?" Olmos explained, she hesitated in her request so Yamaguchi knew that what was coming, would not be for the former Borg's benefit. "Yes, my office, this way."

Olmos fell into step with Yamaguchi, except one step behind her old friend and former supervisor. The two moved down the hallway in silence until the two women reached Yamaguchi's office, which they both entered a moment later. Yamaguchi then sat down in a chair before her desk rather than behind it as Olmos could now see where Jake and all of his siblings had gotten that habit from, it was one they all shared with their mother. "Take a seat Lil'yanna... and tell me of what's bothering you." Yamaguchi indicated the sofa nearby. "Do you know how hard it is to find a decent sofa, one I can actually relax on... and not feel like I'm sitting on a box of rocks."

Olmos paused as she made herself comfortable on the sofa, which was sofa and thus she sank ever so slightly into the material. "Well... The issue... is Jake and Nalla." as the older Betazoid came out and said it bluntly.

"Ironic. I was just discussing the matter with Tom. I think I make him worry about the matter... So what's Nalla gone and done this time?." Yamaguchi peered at her old friend as she slowly blinked her eyes in an owlish manner.

"Well, it's not Nalla per see... Considering she is out in the field commanding the USS Salvation, its what she left behind in my care."

Yamaguchi was many things but stupid or ignorant were not among them, also assuming she was both was also a rather foolish error as many tended to make to their cost later on. "The child that Nalla had with Jake but Nalla doesn't want Jake involved... Lil'yanna. I know all of the details of what happened, Jake wanted to be involved but Nalla cited Betzed royal protocol on the subject and when Jake got angry, she ran away and didn't even try to resolve the matter with him." Yamaguchi explained. "He wanted to be involved and she did not... Then she cut all ties and disappeared into the ether. No word was heard by anyone involved since..." Yamaguchi paused. "Did I miss anything here?"

"No, that about covers it." Olmos paused, as she huffed a sigh. "Nalla did not make it easy for me or anyone else."

"So what's the issue?" Yamaguchi inquired. "Nalla denied Jake his daughter, denied me, my granddaughter... What's there to discuss?" Yamaguchi shifted her position ever so slightly.

"I have Bethany with me. I'm the one looking after her while Nalla is out in the field." Olmos explained, she noted the look on her old friends face.

"Oh." Yamaguchi paused. "Does Nalla know that you bought her daughter here to meet her father?" as soon as she said it, she knew her answer.

"No," Olmos admitted. This only confirmed Yamaguchi's feelings and suspicions on the matter at hand.

Yamaguchi regarded her old friend in silence for a moment. "Hold on, I'm gonna read your mind... I'm going to assume that you and Jake had this chat, not too long ago.. and you said this to him and he melted down on you, so you came to me to... What?" Yamaguchi blinked her eyes slowly. "Lil'yanna... Nalla denied Jake his daughter... I know he has issues with that, even to this day... Because I would have I been in his shoes..."

"I didn't expect him to blow up at me, the way he did... I honestly thought he was ..." Olmos sighed softly.

"Going to hit you." Yamaguchi finished the unfinished thought that Olmos had. "That's not Jake's way... Tom told me what happened when he got into it with Torilla... Jake gave him one hell of a dressing down for what happened, Elizabeth told me about it, things between Jake and Tom Lasky got so out of control that she spent the better part of five minutes trying not to wet herself... Oh, Elizabeth had been in the room and it was Torilla intervening that prevented Jake from ending Tom's career..."

Olmos nodded her head. "I recall hearing about that event." she sighed. "My time encountering that damnable ship was among her most unusual moments..." she paused. "I wish Nalla had been more reasonable."

"But she doesn't know how to reason... Does she. Lil'yanna?" Yamaguchi answered. "What's to stop her from coming in, demanding her child back and then leaving Jake with cause to not just dislike her, but actively hate her..." she regarded her old friend with a curious look in her eye. "I won't step in and get myself mired in this mess if that's what she's going to do, because honestly. What's to stop her from doing it?"

"Because. I'm the one who is raising her... Nalla can't raise a child... Her medical concerns prevent her from doing so." Olmos admitted. "I felt it was important for her father to know of Bethany's existence."

"I am not sure that's good enough for Jake... He had the same issue with T'Shammet when she became pregnant, he wanted to be involved and while she tolerated it, she was not keen on the idea, she told him as much and it took some time for Jake to accept this. He has since come to terms with the fact that Evoras isn't his son."

Olmos paused. "Do you at least want to meet her?"

"Bethany... Sure. I'll meet my granddaughter..." Yamaguchi paused. "What are your long term plans for her?" she regarded Olmos. "Jake's household is full and he can't exactly handle any more people living there," she commented. "He has the twins, four Caitians and six housecats. It gets crowded at times."

"I'll believe it." Olmos smiled.

"I'll meet Bethany and see what I can do to resolve the matter between you and Jake," Yamaguchi answered. "After my shift, however, I need to call Admiral Dragon and give her a piece of my mind."

"Very well, I'll get out of your hair and leave you to it." and with that, Olmos turned and departed the office in silence.
