Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 1330Hrs - January 19th, 2394

Commander Walking Bear regarded Captain Harmon Rabb as he picked up the PADD, he then rose to his feet. "Admiral. I will go take care of this. By your leave?" he asked Duval, with a smile on his lips.

Duval nodded. "Thanks, Harmon," the two women watched him depart as a third woman arrived. Division Admiral Celeste Yamaguchi-Hobbs entered. Walking Bear rose to her feet in silence. It was a sign of respect for the other woman's rank.

Yamaguchi-Hobbs wasn't expecting the other woman standing up before her. "Oh," she commented. "Sorry. I'm not used to my rank yet." she smiled. "Have a seat, also there is no need to stand when I show up. I've been saying that to people for the last hour." she sat down next to Walking Bear. "Seriously Heather. How do you get anything done?" she commented, as she half expected to have her question either ignored or dismissed as being unimportant.

Duval considered the matter for a moment before she answered the other woman. "Well, each Admiral is different but speaking for myself. I make it clear in my standing orders that I am to be ignored unless I need information, or someone needs something from me," she commented. "As you are now a Division Admiral. I can see you getting that document regarding your standing orders shortly," she commented.

Walking Bear smiled but opted to not say anything as Heather Duval smiled. "Alright. Now that we are all gathered here. Celeste. I have Heather here who is between assignments. You have no wish to leave the Utgarde System due to you serving as the last survivor and hope of your extended family. I assume you wish for that to continue?" she inquired of the younger woman before her.

"I would greatly prefer that be the case. Yes ma'am." Walking Bear answered with a nod of her head.

"Well as it happens."Duval grinned at Walking Bear. "The position of the second officer for Starbase Vanguard is available. It should have been filled long before now, but since it's not. Celeste and I have been looking at who can fill this gap. The Executive Officer slot was also open, due to Siaxx Dvald-Vaxx being down because of the fact that she's pregnant." Duval smiled softly. "Your name was at the top of my list for the position of second officer," Duval commented. Yamaguchi-Hobbs nodded her head, clearly in agreement with the other woman before her.

Walking Bear smiled but she suspected that she wasn't going to like the next answer. "Well, thats good to know sir," she added.

"It was a short list," Yamaguchi-Hobbs added, a gentle smile on her lips.
"So. Heather... Mind if I call you Heather?" Yamaguchi-Hobbs inquired.

"You may call me whatever you like, so long as I know you are addressing me." Walking Bear responded, a gentle smile on her lips.

Yamaguchi-Hobbs grinned. "Nice. So I would like to offer you the position of Second Officer for Starbase Vanguard." she commented, "What say you?" It was clear that she wanted an answer right now. She either didn't want Walking Bear to wait or worse, she needed her to start as soon as possible.

"I accept." Walking Bear answered softly, with a big grin on her face. This would allow Walking Bear to live at home with her husband and children. She could keep doing what she was already doing.

"Good," Duval answered. "Now that thats dealt with. Let me deal with the other issue presently before us." she produced a small black box. "Commander Heather Walking Bear. I hereby promote you to the rank of Captain, with all the responsibilities and privileges of that rank." she handed the small black box over to the other woman with her left hand, while she shook Walking Bear's hand with her right.

Walking Bear smiled as Yamaguchi-Hobbs gently plucked the small box from the other woman's hands. "Let me pin you. I know I'm not your husband, but I hope you won't object." she produced the small golden pip. "Congratulations... Captain Walking Bear." she gently shook the other woman's hand before giving her a hug. It was not standard procedure but then the crew assigned to Vanguard ware known for being an unusual lot.

Walking Bear hugged Yamaguchi-Hobbs back. "Thank you Admiral." she addressed Yamaguchi-Hobbs before she turned to Duval a moment later. "I won't need quarters on the base. I'd much prefer to live planetside," she commented.

"Thats fine," Duval responded. "But you should still check in with medical and let them know that you'll be assigned here," she commented. "Thank you, Heather, for dropping by."

Walking Bear smiled at the other woman. "Thank you, Admiral. For wanting to keep me around." she rose to her feet as Duval nodded. "You have things you'll want to take care of. We will detain you no longer. On your way, Heather and welcome to Vanguard." Duval smiled as Walking Bear turned, but before she departed. She decided to address her issue now before it got any later. "Admiral. I do have one problem that I must address before I can take over as the second officer on Vanguard." she started.
