Pomp and Regrets - Part Four

Mission: Mission 108: Grains of Sand
Location: Various Locations - USS Spirit of Winter
Timeline: 1200Hrs - November 27th, 2393

Commander John Sheridan was sitting behind his desk in the ready room when there was a knock on the door. He lifted his gaze from the paperwork he had been doing. He placed the PADD down onto the desk as he rose to his feet. "Come in."

The door opened and in walked the Yamaguchi's. Gabriel and Savvanah. Both of them were wearing the usual uniforms. He wore the usual while she wore the skirt. "Captain. Can we ask for a moment?" Gabriel inquired.

"Of course." Sheridan smiled at the two younger officers. "What can I do for you?"

"We can ask that someday, we have the good fortune to serve with you again sir," Savannah commented with a gentle smile.

"Serving with you has been an honour," Gabriel added, after a moment.

"The honour was mine. Commander. Lieutenant." Sheridan answered. "You both will do well on Vanguard. Not to mention, your family will be protected if things out here go sideways with the Tholian's," he commented.

"Let's hope they don't," Savannah answered. "While preparing in case they do," she added.

Gabriel saw no need to drag this out too long. "Permission to disembark sir.?" he asked formally.

"Permission granted Commander. Take care you two." and with that. He gently shook Gabe's hand before giving Savannah a hug. It was not regulations but neither Gabe nor Savv cared about it. The next few minutes were a whirlwind of turbolifts and hallways, then they reached their first destination. The airlock where they would go over to Vanguard and check in with their new departments. Then head to medical for their checkups and then find their new quarters. Once all that was finished, then they would come back to the Spirit of Winter for their children. They were being left in daycare, to keep them out of the way. It had been arranged as things would be hard enough without the kids in the way.

Gabe and Savv went through the usual checks at both airlocks. Orders and their items were checked. It was standard procedure and neither of them complained or objected.

Waiting for them were two women. One of them was a Caitian female that Gabe had heard about in stories and reputation only. The second was as familiar to him as his own mother. He nodded to Captain Plataea Lasky who nodded back. She had a warm smile on her face. "Welcome to Vanguard, you two," Lasky commented. "We have quarters already arranged for you both on level sixty-five. It's where the married couples hang out. So you might run into various people." Lasky's eyes twinkled with merriment as she went about the routine.

She turned to Savannah directly as Sav was assigned to Operations. "Let's go over here. Let the Commander brief your husband," she commented before she nodded to the Caitian female who nodded back.
Gabriel moved over towards the Caitian female. Yamaguchi regarded the female before him. He noted she had a kittenish look with Russian blue coloured fur. That's when he suddenly recalled he knew who she was because his mother had served with her before.

"Welcome to Starbase Vanguard." the Caitian female briefed Gabriel. "I'm Commander Moni Nasao. The Exec of the department." she paused. "I hope we don't have the same issues that seemed to keep happening between myself and your mother. Commander. That would be a great shame."

"Aye, it would," Gabriel answered with a nod of his head. "So, what's our situation.?" he inquired of Nasao.

"Well. Since you've reported in here and now to me now. I won't need to worry if you will show up on time or not." The Caitian explained. "So I won't be starting you tomorrow. I'll start you the following day and you'll be assigned to alpha watch. The Starbase armouries can be busy but most of it you already know. If your file is any indication. You'll fit in well here."

"Sounds good to me. Will my children be a pain?"

"Not at all. Most of us on the Starbase have children in some way, shape or form. I, myself have three litters of children with my own mate so if you need time off early in the morning to get them to daycare or school. Then that's fine. Alpha Watch starts at zero nine hundred and goes to fifteen hundred. It's the same for the entire Starbase and covers all departments." Nasao explained. "So once. I finish with you and Captain Laky finishes with your wife. It would probably be best to drop by medical and get that matter resolved." the Caitian then smiled. She then handed him a PADD. "This is your quarter's assignment. You both share for obvious reasons," she explained why he was getting a PADD and not his spouse.

"I'll do that and then get the kids enrolled in the Starbase daycare system," Gabriel added. "and my mother sends her regards Commander," he added with a gentle smile.

"Your mother is too kind," Nasao answered with a soft purr. "Alright. Off with you. I won't take up any more of your time." as Gabriel turned to see Lasky finishing off her business with Savanah. The two then came back together. "Medical?"

"Yep." Yamaguchi smiled before the two then set off for their next stop. The medical department awaited.
