Monroe then replaced the carpet and he placed the combadge onto his chest. He then went back into Engineering to find a half a dozen people gathered. "Chief..." one of his people addressed him, but Monroe couldn't identify who had addressed him.

"I'm fine... I just needed a cup of coffee... Status?" Monroe asked of the people gathered around him. "Speak up people!" he added, a little louder. He did not need people asking him any odd questions or anything else of the like, he wanted to give the Klingon girl a chance to get away.

"The slipstream drive is showing signs of wear, sir, we need to take the drive offline for repairs." the Ensign explained. Before he cringed as if waiting for the Chief to lose his temper. Which was a fair worry, Monroe was exhausted and everyone present knew it too.

"Very well, Let me take it, Ensign... The skipper will flip shit over this so its best if I do it and not you." Monroe answered evenly.

"Aye... yessir." the Ensign responded as he withdrew, Monroe took his place before he began inputting the shutdown sequence into the slipstream drive, as he wondered if he was doing the right thing, the look in Otrollo's eyes as she departed gave him his unspoken answer, as he went to work. Then he smiled as he took the drive offline. The soft humming sound present throughout the ship suddenly changed.

The com system beeped at him. "Bridge to Engineering, what's happening down there?" came the voice of a junior Lieutenant who was very full of himself.

"The slipstream drive is damaged, it needs repairs... I can't change the laws of physics Lieutenant. I will have the drive back online as soon as possible. Engineering out." as Monroe sighed, while he stifled a yawn. Monroe mentally reminded himself that this Klingon girl had better be worth it as he decoupled the slipstream drive initiator, and then he proceeded the vent the excess energy from the system.

While he was working. The nearby turbolift door opened and out came Captain Aiden Torel. He marched over to the ship's warp core. "Commander, what's going on?" he spoke with the air of a man who was used to getting his ay way too often.

"The bridge didn't tell you?" Monroe inquired, he had his answer almost as soon as he asked the question. "The slipstream drive is damaged and it needed repairs... It was either I take the system offline and attempt emergency repairs or you let the system continue to be run into the ground Captain... When the drive fails, we could be stranded hundreds or thousands of light-years from anywhere..." he explained.

"We need this drive back online right away Chief... Stalingrad is right behind us..." Torel answered, slipping some information that Monroe didn't need to know at the present time.

"Stalingrad..." Monroe answered. "What happened...?" as he regarded Torel with a flinty look. "Did you shoot at her?... Tell me you didn't drag her into this mess?" he added in a quiet tone of voice.

"Nothing you need to worry about... We need the slipstream drive to work... How long will it take?" Torel dismissed his question without answering it.

"Hours..." Monroe answered bluntly. "To make things worse... I've not even started yet... I need to get inside there and see what's physically wrong with it... Also, keep in mind that I've been on the watch for almost two days straight..." Monroe was known for his brashness when speaking to others, as he was more concerned with the ship rather than anything else.

Torel knew he had kept Monroe on watch far longer then he needed to and a lot longer then he should have. "I understand Chief... But I need that drive back online as soon as possible." he glanced around before he turned his attention back to Monroe. "We need to be on the road and quickly please." and with that, Torel turned and walked out of Engineering.

Monroe sighed softly. "Ensign, what's the status of the benemite crystals.?"

Ensign Sally-Ann Hesten sighed as she pulled open the benemite crystal housing and she saw the state of the crystals in question. "Cracked... They need to be replaced."

"We have none," Monroe answered softly. He took a deep breath as he sighed softly, while he tapped his combadge. "Monroe to Torel. Skipper... We no longer have a slipstream drive... I have no crystals and we have no time to make more."

"Understood Chief... I'll alert the Zalaan." Torel explained. "Torel out."

Monroe tapped his combadge in silence before he turned to the zafting woman nearby. "Seal her up. We'll keep the drive offline until further notice..." he sighed. "That's assuming the USS Queen Mary's name is even worth anything at this point," Monroe said more to himself than to anyone else.
