Mission:
Mission 89: An Irresistible Force
Location: Akurian Battlecruiser Ryazar's Shield
Timeline: May 31st 2392 - morning
Kasana was busy studying the situation with the Borg when Rachael Yamaguchi walked into the room. Kasana looked up at the former Borg Queen saying. "Well, our progress in de-assimilating the Borg is doing quite well. But there were a few complications that happened."
Rachael Yamaguchi peered down at the smaller being. "Oh?." the tall female encased in black and dark green armor turned to address Kasana. "Well, don't keep it to yourself. What sort of complications?" she inquired. "Can I sit down?. It's been a long day and my old bones ache."
Kasana looked at her notes, saying. "Well, with all the de-assimilated Borg we have transferred to artificial bodies, we ran out of human ones, so we had to start transferring people to Akurian ones. However, that's not the real issue as most of your people are just eager to get out of Borg bodies. No, the real issue is that the federation has sustained casualties in this Gorn/Klingon conflict, and for some people, the only way we could save them was by putting them into artificial bodies. Unfortunately, many of these people aren't taking it too well."
Yamaguchi nodded as she proceeded to take a seat in a chair that was nearby. "Well. The guys in the Federation have never had anything like this before. I mean when someone dies, they are dead forever." she explained. "The Borg can transfer consciousness from one body to another but usually only for Queens."
Kasana then moved on to her second set of notes. "Speaking of that, in regards to your situation. There are too many Borg components in your brain for us to be able to transfer your brain into a cybernetic module. So the only way we have to get you de-assimilated is to upload your consciousness itself into an Android brain. However, this is a very new technology to the OISU, we only had it for the past couple of decades, and it is a very risky procedure."
Yamaguchi nodded. "Define: risky?" the tall woman inquired.
Kasana ran over her notes. "Well, the procedure has a 2% chance of failing completely and we lose your consciousness altogether. There is a 15 to 20% chance of you losing something, whether it is memories or skills or something like that. As I said this is a very new technology. Of course with your knowledge of Borg technology, you may know of some techniques that would improve your chances of success. Though I figure you would probably go for this anyway despite the risks."
Yamaguchi nodded her head. "Yes indeed," she responded. "Mind if I have a look at your work. Maybe I can assist you."
Kasana handed her to the datapad, but then mentioned," However before we go further, I do have a bit of good news."
Kasana then pulled up a star chart, saying. "We have successfully routed our Teleporter gate network and added a line connecting to the Jenolan Dyson sphere. Fortunately, the Dyson sphere is only four light years away from Relay Station 128 on the relay network we set up to help evacuate Ferasians, so now we have a direct line we can use to send people there. So the survey of the sphere has begun."
Yamaguchi smiled. "That's good news.. I read the reports from the Enterprise as well as the other Federation ships assigned with the initial exploration efforts," she explained. "A lot of them said it was worthless, the star was too unstable."
Kasana looked at the survey report. "Well, there is plenty of plant life on the planet, it has adapted to the higher than usual levels of radiation. I mean, sure the Radiation is harmful to animal and humanoid life in the long term, but Cyborgs and former Borg are immune to it. However, regarding that star instability, I have a theory on that."
Yamaguchi nodded. "Go on?" she inquired. "If the sphere is habitable. That would resolve all of our issues in one fell swoop," she added a moment later.
"After doing an initial analysis," Kasana explained I think the problem lies in the fact that they Dyson sphere is not collecting much energy from the star itself, due to its disuse. Since the sphere is not using most of the energy the star is putting out, it is instead reflecting it back inwards, as a result of the Star's radiation and energy simply have nowhere to go, plus the expelled stellar material is just simply building up within the sphere itself. So essentially the star is overheating because its energy is trapped. If the sphere was operating normally and collecting all the energy the way it should be, the star wouldn't be having this problem."
Yamaguchi nodded. "Makes sense. Energy is energy, it needs to go somewhere," she responded. "I'm sure the laws of thermodynamics cover this in detail but I'm a doctor by trade."
Kasana then moved on to the next bit of information, "We have also picked out a system where we can trap the Borg collective. It's a location that is already in an unstable area of subspace so it should be easy to create a subspace sinkhole around it."
Yamaguchi smiled. "Excellent," she responded with a smile. "Then, when we are ready. I can relink with the collective but I will need to fight for my position. The Collective is assuming that I am dead so I will need to fight to resume my place. Or worse, the Borg will send a fleet to come collect me." she explained. "If it's the latter. I will need to go back to the collective for this plan to work." she paused a moment. "The plan will still work, that's why I never protested about it until now but once I regain my place as Queen. I will spring the trap."
"It will still take us a little while to construct the device, however," Kasana replied, "we are looking at taking at least a month."
"Sounds good," Yamaguchi responded lightly. "We can get everything sorted out and make sure nothing whatsoever goes wrong when we do this," she responded. "We're also assuming the collective still exists when we do this."
"That's the assumption," Kasana remarked, "Also we have figured out how to fake a Queen's signal. Though I wouldn't try it more than once or twice, we can make it seem like you are still a Borg queen even if we transplant you to another body. But then again, all things considered, you may not even have to do much to assert yourself. All you have to do is convince the collective there is a particle of omega in our trap, and they should go running for it."
"Indeed," Yamaguchi responded. "We're also assuming that there is still a collective to call." she eyed the smaller being.
"We can always send a stealth ship to the location you told the Borg to go and keep an eye on them," Kasana suggested, "We do have a few prowlers available and present in our fleet."
"Excellent." as Rachael produced a PADD. "These are the coordinates," she explained as she handed the PADD to the small being before her.
Kasana then went to a computer terminal, mentioning. "Great, I'll send this information to Nevanzi and he can send a couple of ships there."
"It's best if I do not go.. But I recommend a few Federation officers to go with you." Yamaguchi commented.
"Who," Kasana Asked.
Yamaguchi paused. "I'll look over some names and I'll get back to you," she responded before she smiled, she then closed her eyes and went over close to ten thousand names. "James Raynor. He's a Major in the Federations new Starfighter Forces. Also, I recommend Commander Tom Lasky, he will be useful for this." she explained as she pulled up the service records of both men on the PADD in her hands. "When should we do this?"
"As soon as we can spare the ships," Kasana answered. Something else then dawned on her," Wait a minute, we still have all those former house Tekevak ships as well. If we can scrounge up a crew for some of them, we can send some people out immediately."
Yamaguchi nodded her head. "Well we do have some de-assimilated people already and I can request some of my dro-people come with me." she almost said 'drone but she caught herself mid-way through the word.
"I'll get in contact with Starfleet and see if we can assemble a crew then," Kasana finished.
