The Restless Shades of the Past - Part Eight

Mission: Mission 66: Double Helix
Location: Tuanko Colony - Planet Surface - Medical Center
Timeline: 1200Hrs Local Time - Feb 26th, 2392

Commander Siaxx Dvald was looking into a microscope as the medics rushed to and fro in the work spaces in the main hospital area. "Mmm..."

The door opened and in came one of the nurses. "Commander. the samples you asked for." Cheleya Dvald approached her aunt with a PADD.

"Thank you Cheleya." Siaxx responded with a smile.

The younger Bolian female handed her aunt the PADD before she turned and departed, leaving her aunt to work, as the younger Bolian slipped out. Siaxx heard the door open a second time, she turned her head as she regarded her new arrival. "Yeah?" the pregnant Bolian inquired.

Tienn Nerra walked in, PADD in hand. "Hey Doc... the report you wanted."

"Ahh." Siaxx smiled as she regarded the taller woman, a smile on her face. "Come on into my office, can I get you anything?"

"I'll take a hot chocolate, with two brown sugars and creme..?" Nerra sounded almost hopeful as Siaxx went into her office and asked the replicator for two of the drinks, she handed one of them across to the other woman who inhaled its scent then she sipped a small mouthful. "Mmm... prophets. this stuff is the greatest ever."

Siaxx took a sip of her own. "Its good.." she responded in agreement as she looked at the PADD. "so the new water treatment plant is finished and works to Starfleet code?"

"It does... We cranked the system over an hour ago... We just finished the last of the checks and I'm reporting the successes to you now."

"I love Marine combat engineers, they don't fuck around with anything."

"When it absolutely, positively has got to get done, they call us in..." Nerra smiled, cheerfully. "Hows things going with you?"

"The hunt continues." Siaxx smiled. "We've managed to narrow it down to a water-borne virus that spreads via insect bite... like an Earth Mosquito."

"Great... The modern equivalent is Typhus."

"Except its only a cold." Siaxx responded, puzzlement on her face. "We're missing something... "

Tienn regarded the shorter Bolian female who was a few inches shorter then she herself was. "Well.. there is no large fauna or flora anywhere on this continent. Not to mention we're all aliens to this world.... It could be a reaction within us.."

"Could be.." Siaxx agreed. "Its worth looking into. Thank you again Major."

"Your welcome Doctor." and with that Tienn lifted the mug which was still hot before she turned and took her leave in silence, content to enjoy her hot drink. She she did, one of the Marines came in. "Doc?"

"Yes Major.." Siaxx responded as she gazed at the shorter female before her.

Tienn handed Siaxx the PADD in her hands. "Iteela was helping my sisters with notekeeping while she was doing her work... and I thought this could help.."

Siaxx accepted the PADD in silence before she gave it the once over. "Ahh... she's after the main baseline sequence of the bug... Makes sense... I didn't think of that to be honest.." the small Bolian explained. "Alright... I got work to do." as she lifted her drink which she had left on the side for far too long. "I need more coffee.."

Nerra backed out of Dvald-Sullivan's way as she almost fled into the kitchen. "Are you alright.."

"Uh Huh..." Dvald-Sullivan responded as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "Mmm.... right... Okay so I simply redo the base-pair sequence scans I did earlier... I'll have the computer do that.... Right. I got this.." Dvald-Sullivan added as she handed the report back to the smaller Bajoran woman who looked more confused then anything else.

"Oh... Sorry.." Dvald came back. "Medication makes me loopy... You know what thats like right?"

"Oh... Yes... I do.." it was clear that she didn't know in the slightest but she withdrew to let Siaxx get on with her work.

Two hours later. Commander Tienn Ezas went back to work after finishing her nap as Siaxx gently took her by the hand and almost dragged the much larger Bajoran woman behind her.

"Okay...." Ezas responded. "I'll bite.." she added as Dvald-Sullivan led her into the lab. "I need a second set of eyes."

"You could have asked me.."

"Yeah.." Dvald-Sullivan responded. "But where's the fun in that?" the small Bolian female inquired.

"Alright... I can see you're in a mood...." Tienn Ezas responded as she peered through the scope. "Wait... what am I looking at?"

"I was able to create a vaccine using the base virus as a template. The virus mutates too fast for me to find a full blown cure but this will serve as a stop gap measure until we can actually create a cure.""

"Fine work Doctor."

"You can thank you're sister for the help she gave me." Dvald-Sullivan responded with a smile. "Nerra I mean.."

"I will... Come on... We need to share this with the others.." Tienn responded evenly as she downloaded the information onto a PADD, before she grabbed the small Bolian womans hand as she almost dragged Dvald-Sullivan behind her.

Tienn slapped her combadge. "Tienn to all team leaders, we found a cure.... situation room in ten minutes. we'll brief you all when you get here."
