Mission:
Mission 61: The Blood-Dimmed Tide
Location: Zekarria - Ryazar's shield
Timeline: 0900Hrs - February 9th, 2392
Ukia Erivai looked at the battecruier Ryazar's Shield's tactical display, which was currently displaying the planet Zekarria and the recently completed Planetary defense grid, which Ryazar's shied was now sitting behind. Her along with a handful of other ships and whatever few shore batteries that the Akurians could set up served as the sole defense for the planet while the majority of the fleet was away. That's why the planetary forcefield was to remain up except for a small section which remained open to allow friendly ships access to the planet. But at least for the time being, Klingon counter attack, though possible, seemed unlikely, given that the latest reports from Durandall indicated that the initial stages of the operation worked flawlessly, and the Klingons didn't even have a clue who was hitting them. However there was one mater that needed to be attended to almost immediately. and that was the situation of the many millions of Ferasian children still separated from their parents.
The first arrival was Division Admiral Firespirit, whom recently arrived with a contingent of over five thousand federation medical officers and nurses.
Rear Admiral Jake Yamaguchi walked into the large conference room where this meeting was scheduled to take place. "Well... This should be interesting." he mused aloud.
"It is..." Olmos felt a bit overwhelmed, for the reason of this meeting was daunting. She herself did not have an idea where to settle so many disjointed families of such a tragic race.
Ukia looked at the various arrivals, and started with. "Well I take it you know why you are here. needless to say, the Klingons didn't exactly care about keeping parents and children together, not to mention an unknown amount of them whom may not have any surviving parents at all. Given the situation, and the number of people that still needs to be recovered, we need to set up a temporary foster care system to care for all these separated children."
Jake Yamaguchi nodded. "Lovely." he sighed softly. "I can put out a request for Federation personnel to foster some of these children."
"I can contact the Federation Science Board and see if there are an Class M planets unclaimed that would be suitable to these peoples lifestyles," Olmos added.
Ukai shook her head. "We have three perfectly habitable planet right in this system, searching for other planets wont be necessary. Just because they happen to orbit a gas giant doesn't make them any less suitable than a planet that orbits its parent star directly. But what we need to concern ourselves with immediately is temporary child care services, at least until we get most of the parenting issue sorted out, however I expect we will still need to set up permanent adoption services for at least several mission."
Jake nodded. "I'll contact Starfleet Child services and inform them of the situation. I'll ask for only Caitian and Eeiauoan officers to come and assist.... Humans or any of the human lookalike species are not going to make decent people for the selection process... Caitians are Caitians, not humans with fur."
Ukia nodded. "Alright, and Whatever Akurian officers I can spare will also be doing the reviewing process, but realistically I don't expect permanent adoption services to be in order until a few months after we have gotten all the Ferasians out of Klingon territory. So for now, temporary foster care is the best we can really offer. However I would say that any permanent adoptive parents should definitely know the requirements behind raising Caitian children and should have an understanding of how to raise them. From what i have heard of a lot of humanoid species adopting furry children, one mistake that tends to be common is imposing non furry nudity taboo's on a furred species."
Jake nodded. "Thats why I will make it clear that I want only Caitians or Eeiauoan personnel for exactly that reason."
"Anything else you need me do?" Olmos asked to both Jake and Ukia.
Jake nodded. "Any personnel you can spare, send them planetside to assist with various relief efforts." he paused. "also see about locating any new sites for Federation colonies. tell them to look over the rejected systems and planets again with an eye towards being habitable. Ignore the usual criteria, only that if the planet is already inhabited then it should be rejected. all other criteria are rescinded for this operation." Jake explained to Olmos. "I need to contact terraform command and explain the situation to them, after that I'm going to contact starfleet command and inform them of what we need and that we needed it yesterday."
"I'll get on that at once," Olmos spoke with a dutiful nod, then headed out the room to talk to several people on her list.
Yamaguchi inquired. "Anyone else got anything before we go?"
Firespirit, whom remained quiet most of the time, finally commented," This is just the beginning isn't it."
Ukia looked at Firespirit, inquiring," What do you mean by that."
Firespirit elaborated," The Ferasians, they aren't going to be the first ones you know, there will be other species in the klingon empire too. And they too, with or without our help will find their way out, I imagine this will only be the beginning."
"Yep... and we don't have the infrastructure for this either." Yamaguchi sighed. "To settle hundreds of billions of people.... "
Ukia shrugged. "Well, we'll cross that road when we get to it."
Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow. "We just crossed it.. I need to contact Terraform Command and get the ball rolling on this... If you'll excuse me?" and with that he turned and walked out of the room.
