Mission:
Mission 54: Where Snow Meets Sky
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1300Hrs - December 10th, 2391
Ensign Kadian Paris smiled as she walked into the lounge. Lieutenant Sokanon who was now a month along by this point. "Nice of the Commander... don't you think?"
"Mmm... Yes indeed." Sokanon responded to the shorter woman as she took in the scene at a glance, the room was full of medical personnel all either sitting down or just taking their seats with meals in their hands.
Meanwhile Toshnarr pulled a chair under his massive frame as he sat down near Nalla. "So... Windspirt, How are things with you?"
Windspirit was seated in between Renhai and Nalla. While Renhai happily drank a milkshake, Windspirit replied," I'm fine, haven't dropped dead from old age yet."
Toshnarr chuckled. "I don't think you'd give the devil his due..."
Renhai chuckled, saying to windspirit. "Oh you, your still young and have many years ahead of you what are you talking about."
Windspirit shot Renahi a look. "Well excuse me, my species doesn't live forever like you."
Renhai shrugged. "That can be cured."
Toshnarr blinked. "Mmm... well... do enlighten us?" he inquired as the conversations suddenly died away. "You'll find that... we are a most attentive audience.."
Renahi shrugged," well lets just say that The Akurian confederation and the OISU in general have perfected a very high level of medical technology where we can completely reverse aging."
Windspirit had to keep her jaw from dropping at the comment, but didn't respond to Renhai.
Toshnarr paused. "So... we really will be able to live for centuries.." he paused. "sign me up then."
"Deltans live an average three-point-seven years shorter than Vulcans," Nalla explained, for it was the only fact she knew that had relevance to the conversation.
Cressa, however, looked lost as she sat three tables over. She could not understand how she got this invite. Besides the mandated yearly and new arrival evaluations, no one really sought out Cressa because of her hypnosis incident.
Fordring smiled as she regarded Cressa. "You are invited you know..."
"Who is she?" Nalla asked in a whisper to Fordring.
"She is our Chief Counselor." Fordring responded softly. "She has kept to herself for months... since the incident with Tane being hypnotized."
"I do not blame her... Commodore Tane used to be quite violent. And she does not like her mind invaded, so I can only imagine the pain Commodore Tane has done to her," Nalla noted with a hint of unease.
Toshnarr blinked his large eyes as he held his silence. "How do you mean.... Tane used to be quite violent?" Fordring inquired softly.
"Umm... well..." Nalla blushed, then turned paler with the fright of a memory she did not like to think on much. "Tane was not always very nice."
Nether Renhai nor Windspirit had much past experience with Tane, but Windspirit commented, "I take it this happened some time ago, before most of us joined the crew."
"It did, yes..." Nalla nodded.
"You did not have anyone to talk to about the incident, after it happened. Correct?" Cressa asked with sympathy as she joined the table. "Why did you not tell Doctor Olmos?"
"She..." Nalla rocked slightly with her nerves tingling. "I... Well..."
"You're safe among all of us, Nalla." Cressa spoke in a non-threatening tone. And she gently squeezed Nalla's covered shoulder to comfort her. "You can answer and know we'll never violate your trust."
Nalla looked down at her feet. "...I never told Mom because she did not want Matron Furban knowing about me. Because Commodore Tane threatened to arrest me for harassing her."
Cressa got the impression that Nalla was not telling a linear story. But she understood the fate well enough. There was a fight and Nalla was threatened into silence. The details, however were missing and those were vital to understanding fully.
"Have you and Tane fought recently?" Cressa asked as she eyes Nalla like a social worker would when looking for abuse marks on a child.
"Not since she demoted me from chief medical officer," Nalla answered quietly while she maintained her agitated rock.
Fordring paused. "That was well over a year ago." she mused. "Now you're CMO again.... I doubt think the skipper will have you demoted again because he said that you were his CMO until you decided otherwise."
"That sounds acceptable," Nalla agreed with a bob of her head.
"Are any of you having problems adjusting since the attack in sickbay?" Cressa asked to the group as a whole, though she kept an eye on Nalla. Her boss did not relax very much with the subject transition.
Fordring paused as she looked around, others did likewise.
"I can't sleep at night." said one male Ensign. "I thought they were on outside.." responded another male. "Now... I am not sure who we can trust..."
Fordring nodded. "They came into sickbay and beat the crap out of all of us... Ralih is dead because of those meatbags.. and then there is Tienn..." she paused before she decided to go all in. "I like dreaming of violent ways to end their lives..."
Windspirit looked up at Fordring, "Don't worry about it, these people will be dealt with and we will never have to worry about them again."
"That is a shame." Fordring smiled evilly down at the smaller female. "However... I will get over it ..... in time."
"I will do what I can to see Sickbay is safe again," Nalla promised in a quiet voice.
"Work within the system Nalla..." Fordring responded. "Nobody could have ever seen this coming.."
Nalla did not comment on that, but rather ordered an inced ginger tea when a waitress finally came up to them.
"Sickbay does tend to be the location of common, unforeseen events lately," Nalla finally told the rest.
Fordring nodded in agreement. "Yes... it does." the massive woman responded quietly. "We should look into changing that."
Fordring lifted her drink to her lips as she drained a mouthful from the sizable jug which for her doubled as a drinking glass considering her size. "So... Nalla.... you doing any research into parenting?"
"I have read several books about parenting, though each one contradicts the other," Nalla spoke with a frown. "It would seem the consensus of all books to parenting is having a set of morals and consistency with rules."
Fordring nodded. "That is helpful to have." she explained. "Each child will be different with their own individual needs at times." Fordring added, a smile on her face.
"I can only hope that I can learn to adapt to such individualism as normal people do," Nalla spoke with a small hint of a smile.
