Mission:
Mission 45: Dust and Echoes
Location: Various Locations - Starbase 12
Timeline: 1300Hrs - October 16th, 2391
T'Rae watched as the effects of warp were replaced by the stars of home or wherever home was located today, in this case it was Starbase 12 in the Gamma Four Hundred System.
"We're approaching Starbase 12. Captain." Linojj reported, a soft smile on her face. "Dock control is hailing us." reported Daniel Yamaguchi who was sitting at Operations. "I think the Admiral would like a moment of your time."
"Well she can wait a moment." T'Rae responded darkly. "She's about to take away 'my' ship." she added by explanation as she noticed the odd looks she was getting from around the bridge.
Daniel smiled softly to himself as he regarded his wife in silence while Commander Nathan Hanson chuckled softly. "Remind me to never piss you off."
T'Rae turned her head. "Mmmm?. Oh... put the Admiral on the screen."
"Captain..." April's face appeared moments later. "Something wrong?" she inquired.
"Just traffic... You know what thats like... right?"
"Assume that I don't." April knew exactly why T'Rae had made her wait. "I'm expecting you in my office in fifteen minutes... Try not to be late."
"I'll get there when I finish docking my ship Admiral." T'Rae couldn't stop a note of anger from creeping into her voice. Also a Captain getting angry with a five star Admiral was also an act of unmitigated insubordination.
April raised an eyebrow as few people would ever dare speak to her like that but then considering what was going on, she couldn't exactly blame T'Rae for being angry on the subject.
"Very well Captain. I will be expecting you soon. Yamaguchi out."
as the starfield reappeared, along with the massive Starbase and everything else in the area.
"Was that necessary Captain?" Hanson inquired. "Honking off a five star Admiral is not a good idea.."
"Yes. I deemed that it was." T'Rae responded before she turned and sat down in her command chair, settling in before she gave the order. "Naris, take us in... Nice and slow..."
"Willdo sir." she sighed. "I'm going to miss this ship."
T'Rae sighed softly. "You have no idea Naris.."
"Dock control wants us to release the ship to them." Daniel Yamaguchi tapped from his display at Operations.
"Do so... Let em have it." T'Rae almost couldn't see the point anymore of bothering to maintain this ships good name as she was rapidly becoming angry to the point where she saw red.
Daniel could hear his wife's anger as he regarded her. "Let me come with you when you go see the Admiral."
"A wise plan husband." T'Rae responded quietly.
Nathan Hanson sighed softly as he considered his career, he liked the Alexander the Great and while he wished someday to command her, he didn't want to do it at the expense of his Captain as he knew it was inevitable that he would gain his own command and while he anted it, he also didn't want to end his time serving with these people.
"Aaaand docking... complete." as a loud impact echoed throughout the ship as Daniel Yamaguchi and Naris Linojj finished docking the massive ship.
"Thank you Daniel..." T'Rae responded. "Alright... Everyone. Go home and pack.." she sighed softly. "Lets go Daniel. We need to go and see the Admiral.."
"Right." and with that he turned his chair rather then push the console away from him, he stood up and followed his wife into the nearby turbolift. "Deck five." he said. "T'Rae." Daniel regarded his wife with a soft smile.
"I know..." she responded softly. "I'm not happy about it."
"I can hear you thinking...your anger, your rage.." as he gently slid an arm around her shoulders. "Computer, halt turbolift."
"I am distressed." she admitted. "I do not like the fact the Admiral has reassigned us like this.."
"Then we can tell her that... but I doubt this was her choice to be honest... the military reorganization act was where the fault for this ultimately lies.."
"I know.."
"T'Rae... After we get this business done... Come back here, pack the kids up and move them over to the new ship... At least the crew is staying together."
"Indeed.." as Daniel gently kissed her on the lips while he brushed her hair out of her eyes. "Come on.. Lets go deal with the Admiral..."
"A good plan.." T'Rae however made no effort to move from within her husbands embrace. "Do you think she'll be annoyed if we got... sidetracked with.... you seducing me?" she shrugged. "Or you seducing me."
"Oh... probably." Daniel responded. "Are you thinking of being really annoying by showing up an hour late after sex in the shower or something?"
"I am seriously considering it."
"Don't tease me." Daniel smiled.
"Mmm... Oh but I am."
"T'Rae.. " Daniel smiled. "Lets go see the Admiral... then we come back here and I'm going to fuck you senseless... Sound good?"
"Indeed. yes." the Vulcan woman responded. "Computer resume." before the turbolift started moving again.
Ten minutes later, in April Yamaguchi's office. Fleet Admiral April Yamaguchi sighed as she waited for T'Rae who she knew was being late quite deliberately when the doorbell beeped at them.
April turned her head. "Its Open!" and in walked T'Rae and Daniel Yamaguchi. "Admiral." T'Rae spoke.
April regarded the Vulcan woman who peered back at her in silence. "Captain."
"Admiral" T'Rae responded. "You summoned us here?"
"I did... yes... I assume you have already informed your crew?"
"I did... The crew took the news as well as any other. Most are displeased that they are leaving the ship."
"I can understand... the First Minister is brand new, hot off the assembly line and you're crew will be the first to fly her... She's been shaken down but I want your guys to take her out and finish the shakedown process." April explained. "Your crew will have a week to move their stuff and gear across to the First Minister." she explained.
"Will my crew get leave time." T'Rae responded. "You are... afterall about to turn their lives upside down."
"I know." April responded. "T'Rae... You're letting your personal feelings get in the way... this new ship is a major step up and she's several generations more advanced then your old ship... If I could... I would have also swapped the names too but... Starfleet refused me."
"I see.. My apologies Admiral.... for my temper."
Daniel Yamaguchi stood in silence but now he spoke up. "Ladies... prehaps we should move on."
"Yes." T'Rae responded quietly. "A wise idea."
April Yamaguchi knew that T'Rae was not a happy woman. "This way." she turned and went out the door with T'Rae and Daniel Yamaguchi following in silence.
Ten minutes or so later. T'Rae looked at the elegant lines of the new USS First Minister. "Impressive."
"She's the forth of her class." April responded. "Would you care to go aboard Captain?"
"I would... yes." T'Rae responded quietly.
"Very well.. This way." April turned and went down the hallway and into a turbolift at the end of the hallway. "Hanger Eleven." she spoke quietly. T'Rae and Daniel Yamaguchi both held their silence as the turbolift started moving towards their destination.
April had clearly thought ahead as the three officers entered the hanger. "Admiral the shuttle you requested is ready to fly."
"Excellent." she turned to T'Rae. "This way Captain... I think I remember how to fly a shuttle.."
Daniel smiled in amusement at the inside joke as the three of them entered the shuttle. April took a seat at the conn as she quickly checked things over to ensure all was as she preferred it, she clearly knew how to fly. "The First Minister is one of a new breed of starships T'Rae, she has the same weapons loadout as the Guardian Class Pathfinder Three's. She's the new Heavy Cruiser in the fleet, the replacement for the Galaxy and she's several orders magnitude improved over the Sovereign class."
T'Rae sat beside April at the co-pilots chair as Daniel secured the shuttle, seated behind his wife.
April guided the shuttle across from the Starbase to the First Minister without incident, she shuttle landed in the main hanger as the crew from the USS Alexander the Great was already assembled.
T'Rae looked around as she regarded her crew as April stepped up to the podium. "All Hands, attention to orders.." she paused as a thousand souls snapped to attention, a loud thump could be heard throughout the hanger.
"From Starfleet Headquarters, office of the Admiralty to Captain T'Rae. as of this date, you are requested and required to take command of U.S.S. First Minister, as of stardate Six Eight Eight Oh Nine point Five. Signed Fleet Admiral April Yamaguchi, starfleet command." she paused. "Computer transfer command codes to Captain T'Rae, Authorization Yamaguchi One Nine Seven Juliet Bravo."
"Command codes transferred." the computer responded. "U.S.S. First Minister is now under the command of Captain T'Rae."
"I relieve you Admiral.."
"I stand relieved." April responded.
T'Rae turned before stepping up to the podium, before speaking she took a moment to regard her crew who stood in neat rows before her, as the ship's contingent of support craft had been cleared for this occasion. "All hands. You know me... you've served with me on the Alexander the Great, this assignment comes as a surprise and I am sure many of you would have preferred to remain on our old assignment." T'Rae commented. "However.. We were selected to command and crew this ship as we were the best at what we did and what we do." she explained. "I have no doubt we will all learn about this new ship together.." she paused. "We've been given a week to move our gear and supplies over to this ship...and we have time off as well to reflect on leaving our old ship and meeting this new ship... We all have a lot of work to do so I'm going to let you go about doing it... All hands... Dismissed."
With that the orderly rows began to break up and scatter as people began to fill out into the ship itself. Daniel regarded his wife. "Will you want me there at the changeover later?"
"No." T'Rae responded quietly. "I will manage.. You worry about getting our family settled in."
April meanwhile stood next to the shuttle in silence as T'Rae came back to her. "We should head over to the Alexander the Great... get that changeover done so her new crew can move onto that ship."
"Very well." and with that April and T'Rae both boarded the shuttle with sealed behind them, the shuttle departed moments later.
Daniel Yamaguchi stood as he watched the shuttle carrying his wife and cousin departed back into the massive spacedock that was starbase 12 before he turned and walked out of the hanger in silence.
