Mission 30: All Thats Left
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1900Hrs - March 16th, 2391
The doors to her mothers bedroom opened and out stepped her mother, wearing a new starfleet uniform. "Beth, we need to talk.... we have an issue between us that we must discuss... and sort out... once and for all."
"Me taking your babies." Elizabeth commented. "I was expecting this..." the younger woman added.
"Yes." Yamaguchi answered her daughters question as she moved to the nearby wall monitor. "Ops. this is the Ex-Oh, would you mind contacting the Song of the East for me, I need to talk to the Admiral, tell him its a family matter and I need him pronto." Clearly the elder Yamaguchi was expecting this to get nasty, the silence from the younger of the two women did nothing to calm either women's fears.
"Willdo Commander." came the response from Lieutenant Jiao Anderson, she was sitting at her post as she made sure the ship was running smoothly as she nodded to the officer at conn. "Now moving from Section fourteen and heading into section fifteen."
Jiao meanwhile was working on establishing the request from Torilla Yamaguchi, she knew that something very serious was going on if the Admiral who was also her husband was being requested to be a part of this event. "I have the Admiral for you Commander, I'm routing the call to you now."
Jiao knew that Sergeant Major Jeffery "The Mountain" Duval was seated in the Roanoke's command chair, he was on his second watch as Commanding Officer of the watch, something that he had come to relish and enjoy. "Hopefully Torilla gets her issue sorted out Jiao." he addressed the Ops Chief quietly.
"I hope so too Sergeant Major." Jiao answered the man who was more then twice her size and mass.
Meanwhile, back in her quarters, Torilla Yamaguchi smiled as she tapped the wall display once, as her husband's face appeared, he was out of uniform, wearing a denim jacket over a light grey shirt. "Torilla.. whats up?" Jake's face betrayed his concern. "Elizabeth... what did you do this time?"
"Dad." Beth addressed her father. "You're here as a witness to this argument..." as Elizabeth said it the door beeped, demanding both women's attention. "Its Open!" both women yelled at the same time.
The door opened and in walked 1st Lieutenant Kameron Yamaguchi who had adopted his wife's name came into the quarters, he knew something was wrong. "Ladies.. whats going on?" Elizabeth's husband looked suddenly nervous as if expecting fireworks any second.
"Thats what I'd like to know... How are you doing Kam?" Jake Yamaguchi addressed his new son-in-law.
"I'm good sir... still settling into married life." Kameron answered with a smile.
Jake gave him a reproving look as he let out a soft sigh. "Kam... how many times must I tell you... to not call me sir?"
"One more time...as always." Kameron chuckled softly.
"I see why Elizabeth married you..." Jake answered, his dry wit coming out.
"I love her. She makes me feel alive... what more do I need?"
Jake smiled warmly at the other man. "Nothing whatsoever... " Jake indicated the two Yamaguchi women who were starting to circle each other, this was going to get nasty. "Kam... this is gonna get ugly."
"Elizabeth..." Torilla addressed her eldest child. "I know you did what you felt was right... the fact that I'm alive... tells me you did what you had to do... but there is what I know... and how I feel..."
Elizabeth regarded her mother. "I know mom... don't think I can't feel your anger... your pain.."
"Yes... well... You took something from me.. I can never get back... you deprived me of the ability to have those two babies..."
"I did it only to save their lives.... and yours too mom... if I had another choice... I would have taken it." Elizabeth was now feeling the full force of her mothers pain and it was overwhelming her psionic defenses.
"Mom..."
Yamaguchi turned away. "But I feel... useless... all that time I spent preparing... wasted."
"I'm Sorry Mom." Elizabeth gently touched her mothers shoulder.
"I'm not human Beth..." Torilla reminded her eldest, and everyone else present.
"I know... but... Oh no.." Elizabeth paused. "Of course... how could I not have seen it..."
"Because I look human... I married a human.." she indicated Jake, who regarded his wife with a concerned look on his face. "and I had children with a human.... those children are now having grandchildren.... kids of their own...." she sighed. "and my people are still dying out... for a Halanan, to loose a child for whatever reason... is still a major life changing event." Torilla explained, trying hard to reign in her emotions.
"Because to you, losing a child is devastating." Elizabeth responded. "But mom, I had no choice but to operate. I couldn't simply put you in stasis, it would not have worked... so I had to operate.." the younger Yamaguchi sighed. "I weighed the costs involved and I choice to save your babies." the younger woman sighed.
Torilla regarded her daughter with an evil look as Jake interrupted. "Torilla." he said it quietly. "She's right... would you prefer to lose one or both of the twins.... and yourself as well... " he inquired. "Don't you think you're being a little unreasonable?"
"How so?" Torilla inquired of her husband
"Well... you have the twins, they are alive... coming to term inside Phoenix which is better then death, I can assure you, I've already booked time off so I can spend time with them and get to know them." he explained. "But you hating on Elizabeth for doing her job and making an impossible choice has got to stop Torilla..."
"You don't know how it felt.."
"I heard what happened, from several people... from Phoenix herself who made sure that she was in the room, sitting next to you when you came to, she made one heck of an effort to make sure you knew where the babies were so you didn't go insane and start breaking things... you owe Elizabeth a very serious thank you... not your scorn."
Torilla turned her head from Jake to her eldest daughter and then back to Jake as Jake added. "We know how you feel Torilla, considering you've made it very clear to us about how you feel on the matter. But Torilla, love of my life, seriously...... I'd take a moment to consider exactly what your angry about and why you're still so pissed of on the matter.... then you three... have that chat.... "
"Alright.." Torilla answered quietly.
Elizabeth regarded her mother. "I'm Sorry mom..." she sighed.
Torilla held her silence as she considered it. "I'll be alright..." the older woman sighed.
Elizabeth ent over to the replicator as she ordered three old fashioned lemonades, with ice, within moments the thre of them had a glass each as Elizabeth felt herself begining to relax for the first time in a long time.
Torilla sipped her drink. "Mmmm... I'd forgotten how good these actually were." she admitted.
"Mom... "
"You did what you had to do..." Torilla admitted. "That doesn't mean I have to like it.. .But at least... now you understand how I feel...and now that I've said what I need to say.... I'll say no more on the matter..." Torilla sighed.
"Alright..." Elizabeth responded as she sat next to her own husband who gently took his wife's hand in his own, as the three sat in silence, enjoying their drinks.
