Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1800Hrs - December 25th, 2390

"So, what are you going to teach us today," Teval asked Aerin, as he and Hakaya entered Aerin's quarters.

Aerin replied flatly," Just the usual, trying to get you two to unlock your energy manipulator powers, however, there is a couple of things I want to check."

Aerin pulled out his tricorder, saying," I want to check the integrity of your energy manipulator network, try and figure out if there are any hidden problems. I couldn't check earlier, because I had to modify a tricorder for this purpose."

"O.K.", Teval shrugged as he let Aerin scan him. After several minutes of scanning both him and Hakaya, Aerin commented, "well, what do you know, you are both AI hosts."

"AI hosts," Teval commented with the curious feline look.

Aerin nodded," An AI host carries a biosynthetic computer implant that houses an extremely sophisticated AI. Usually the AI is derived from the hosts own neural patterns, and will gain its personality form the host. The AI aids by efficiently controlling energy manipulator powers, it also allows a host to control a large amount of compatible starship functions, or a large number of drones. Learning to effectively communicate with your AI, gives you better control of your various abilities. The Akurian confederation's AI host technology is one of the greatest assets that we have."

Teval and Hakaya both remained silent, as they where trying to process the information, though it was still a lot to take in. Hakaya then asked, "So how capable are these AI's."

Aerin shrugged," depends upon the skill of the host, but some of the most skilled hosts have been known to perform feats like controlling an entire 3 kilometer long battleship by themselves. Or singly command and control tens of thousands of robots."

"Wow," Teval commented," So why cant we communicate with ours then."

"Thats what i am trying to figure out," Aerin commented, holding the tricorder up. After a couple minutes he found it," Ah, looks like there is some damage to the implant, but its not serious." Aeriin then scanned Hakaya, and then said," You have a similar issue."

Karryn retrieved a hypospray, and Teval asked," Whats in that."

"Some Akurian medical nanoprobes," Karryn replied, as she administered it to both Teval and Hakaya. "These are specifically designed to repair damage like this, we don't have many though, and they are hard for federation replicators to make."

Teval just nodded, then waited.

What he encountered next, was unexpected.

"Teval."

He almost jumped at hearing a voice he didn't recognize. Looking around the room, he didn't see anyone but Aerin and Karryn. Teval blurted out, "Who said that."

Aerin smiled," That, was your AI.

Teval blinked, then heard the voice," Hey moron, I'm in your head."
He took a moment to collect his thoughts, thinking,'Ok, i must be going insane.' Not realizing that he was broadcasting his thoughts to his AI.

'I heard that Teval.'

'Hey, this is weird, I didn't expect my AI to have a personality.'

The AI sighed,' Well Duh you dolt, I was made from your own thought patterns.'

Teval looked at Hakaya, whom seemed to be having similar reactions to him, then Teval asked the AI, "uh, so what do I call you."

Teval suddenly seemed to see a kurokuri in his head, he wasn't sure, but he believed that this was the AI's appearance. Though the AI seemed to also have a female personality, which seemed strange. She then replied,' My name is Kima.'

Teval nodded, not relising he was now talking out loud," Oh, Hi kima."

Aerin then added," Hey Teval, be sure to be careful not to accidentally talk to your AI out loud, people might think you are going crazy."

Teval nodded, "I'll keep that in mind."

Suddenly Teval heard Aerin's reply, however his mouth didn't move, 'Yeah, you may want to."

Teval jumped in surprise, stammering," Wait, what, how did you do that."

Aerin did it again,' Because I am an AI host myself. Part of the AI implant contains a small subspace radio transmitter which can be used to communicate without speaking, through the AI. Its not very long range, but its useful.'

Teval, still unsure how to use that method of communication, asked," So will I be able to interface directly with computers as well, or something like that."

Aerin nodded," With Akurian computers, that have a similar receiver and transmitter, yes, but federation computers, I'll need to add an implant chip for that, because their technology isn't the same as ours. My team has been working with neural interfaces before, and the medical officer in my section will know how to install one."

Teval sat there for a minute, then said," Wait, there is another person, Wukari Kalina, she is 2nd wing commander, and Her hands where badly injured. You think you can give her a Neural interface so she can control her fighter."

Aerin shrugged," Well actually, we where planning on doing some experiments with the pilots on interfacing with their fighters directly anyway, though we will need too coordinate with sickbay as well to get these installed. But yeah, I can provide a chip for Wukari."

Teval nodded," Yeah that would be very helpful for her."
