Personality & Traits

General Overview Nathan has undergone a change in his personality. Before the accident he was extremely confident and outgoing. Since then, he has often times doubted himself, but only on the inside. Off duty he seems withdrawn, and it can take an attempt by someone else to "pull him" out of his shell. He's still trying to find a balance of who he was with who he has become.
Strengths & Weaknesses Nathan's greatest strength his is tenacity. He's learned that some things have to be endured in order to move along to better things. As such, he will often focus on his work to the point of disregarding his own status.

Nathan's main weakness is his self doubt. He will often run through things in his own mind to make sure he is making the right decision or choice. This is a complete 180 from his old, "take no prisioners" attitude.
Ambitions Nathan doesn't have a direct ambition that he is looking for. As some point, he feels part of his life will fall into place. When and where, those are the questions he has no answer for.
Hobbies & Interests Nathan enjoys physical activity in the form of exercise. Other than spending time in his quarters, he is known to spend time in the holodecks.

Personal History Nathan Hunter was born in 2355 and from the first day he saw a shuttle fly across the sky of his farm, Jack knew he always wanted to be a pilot. This however did not sit well with his father, James Hunter, who thought that his sons dreams were flying to high than the expectations of a farmer. As such, Nathan took every opportunity he had to learn how any vehicle he saw worked, and if possible, tried to master the controls.

By the time he reached age eighteen, Nathan had decided to submit an application to Starfleet Academy and was overjoyed when he was accepted into the following years class. When the time came for him to leave, he told his mother and father at breakfast the morning he was going to leave. His father nodded and said "I knew this would come son but I know you will make us proud... and you have never once given me cause to question it.. Good Luck Nathan." His mother wished him well and he took his leave of them the very next day.

Upon entry into the Academy, Nathan found that his performance was usually average, until the night he snuck into a flight simulator and took it for a joy ride. The next morning he was pulled out of class, much to his classmates surprise. Upon being brought in to the Commandant's office, he admitted that he had run the simulator but left after he was done. The instructor for the flight classes was present and advised him that aside from crashing at the end, he had performed at a high level of skill for someone with no natural experience. Upon promising to raise his grades, he was given a six month probation period to "clean up" his act in order to enter the flight program.

After graduating in the top third of his class, Nathan was funneled off to a local transport station and proceeded to fly personnel and cargo transports through out the solar system. Within two years he was transferred to a Mars base and became their primary pilot for command and dignitaries. This continued on for another three years to the point that Nathan began to doubt himself. He had never been assigned to a starship as other had, and technically though promoted, he never seemed to go beyond the most basic of ships to fly. That all change the day that his shuttle was hit by a trainee of a fighter squadron. Nathan was transporting a Vulcan dignitary to the command and control center on the planets fourth sector. Crossing over a large expanse of mountains, the shuttle was suddenly struck midship and across the port nacelle. The shuttle began to plummet, but Nathan managed to bring the craft down with great effort and a bit of substantial damage after it crashed onto the Martian landscape. Thirty minutes later the rescue party dispatched found both of them sitting some distance from the wreckage. The Vulcan was in the middle of meditation, while Nathan was already busy entering in his written report on his padd.

After a tribunal hearing Nathan was cleared of all charges. His flight path, though a deviation, was not uncalled for. The trainee and his instructor had left their own sector and the trainee was in fact operating the fighter beyond their capability. Nathan waited for further orders, expecting to be transferred somewhere else within the system, that had even less of a chance for a real flying job. Three days after the hearing finished, a knock came on Nathan’s door. It was the Commanding officer of the Fighter Squadron. He offered his apology to Nathan for the mishap, and then offered him a position as a trainee in the squadron. The 301st Pumas was the elite fighter squadron for Mars defense. The squadron had been fully formed after the first Borg at Wolf 359. Over the years, they had become the training ground for many pilots who went off and formed the backbone of newly forming squadrons. Nathan accepted the chance to work with such and elite group, even though it meant a few years of training on the actual craft, the systems in it and the repair procedures. Everyone in the 301 started out as ground crew and maintenance. Over the course of three years Nathan moved up to trainee status, and eventually became and instructor himself.

Nathan found he had talent to fly a fighter, and an unseen ability to stay rational during any crisis. His reflexes also exhibited a higher than normal ability to allow him to deal with anything that occurred faster than any of the other pilots. As such, he became the senior trainer within a matter of two years. His specially was space navigation, and his course was often one of the final ones that had to be passed in order for a trainee to achieve their wings.

Taking one of his trainees on a final pre-flight test would be Nathan’s last involvement with the 301st. The trainee went off course and began to show off in the asteroid belt. Nathan followed him in and ordered him out. Closing in too fast after the trainee braked, Nathan was forced to make a sharp turn, and avoided one asteroid only to have another smaller one smack straight into his fighter. It plunged down towards the closest asteroid and Nathan’s life was only spared by the emergency transport that dropped him 100 meters away from the fireball that was once his fighter. The initial impact however had broken numerous bones in his body.

Over the course of a year Nathan spent his life living in a hospital ward. There were numerous surgeries to reset bones, assist in graphs and replace some of his skeleton with artificial limbs. It took another six months of intensive physical therapy before he was released from the hospital. Given the choice, he decided to stay in the service, but asked for a re-assignment. His previous academy grades and an evaluation of his skill levels placed him on the Operations Department.

For one year he was Chief of Operations on Starbase 828, before transferring over to the Highlander. Starting out again as Chief of Operations, he found himself in the position of Executive officer, unexpected though it was, it was a challenge he was looking forward to.

Nathan Hunter served two and a half years on the Highlander, a year of that was as Exec when he realized that it wasn't quite what he wanted so he explained himself to his Captain who claimed to understand. He hated command as it wasn't what he wanted in life. so Captain Strannex looked into other options for him, the posting of chief dockmaster on starbase 12 was empty so Nathan stuck his name in for it. To his surprise he was given the assignment and so off he went. Nathan has remained on Starbase 12 until the command was reassigned to Starbase 105. Here he remains to this day,
