Physical Description Zara possesses the delicate build of a dancer, or more precisely, a well trained figure-skater. Though her lithe, petite figure suggests fragility, there is strength in her finely toned muscles. Her most distinct attribute are her stunning sea green eyes. They sparkle with mischief and humor, but their depths are also filled with inner pain. Zara's silky medium brown hair falls just below her shoulders, but is always worn back in either a pony tail or chic chignon when on duty.

Zara recently re-injured her left leg in a freak accident. Due to the severity of her initial injury, combined with the new trauma, the surgeon was unable to save the limb, leaving no other option but amputation below the knee. Personality & Traits

General Overview A perfect candidate for a case study on the concept of nature vs. nurture, Zara Jordyn has spent her entire life feeling conflicted from her two heritages. While it is in her blood to live the life of a peace loving pacifist, from the start, it was an urge she rebelled against. Instead, while feeling torn at times, Zara's Argelian blood merely lends to her being extremely laid back. It takes a lot to ruffle her feathers. On the flip side, once she has been pushed far enough, she possesses a fiery temper that leaves little doubt she is her father's daughter. Age and time have mellowed both extremes in her personality. She is far to cynical and jaded to ever believe in a truly passive society, yet she has learned violence isn't always the answer. Her wit is quick, and often cutting. In the face of danger, Zara wields her quips like some handle a phaser. Her humor is her shield, but it also keeps her sane.
Strengths & Weaknesses Zara's greatest strength is her quick-thinking and unflappable nature. Some people tend to hesitate in a crisis, she comes to life. She is excellent at multi-tasking and it isn't unusual for her to be working on several projects at once.

Since the accident aboard the USS Fairfax, Zara's greatest weakness is her lack of confidence in herself. Where she never used to second guess her decisions, she finds herself questioning her actions after the fact, going over everything. It has led to many a sleepless night.
Ambitions Not long ago, Zara's greatest ambition was to see just how far she could go in Starfleet, proving to both herself and her family she truly does deserve the honor of wearing the uniform. Time and experience have tempered that desire however, along with her deep rooted loyalty to the crew she currently serves with. She no longer strives to climb the ladder, merely serve those she loves well and with honor and pride. Aside from that, being a deeply traditional woman with family values, she longs to settle down, marry, and have kids.
Hobbies & Interests Skating used to be Zara's greatest passion. It was an integral part of who she was. However, since the attack of the Fairfax, she doesn't have the same grace that was once her trademark. While she will occasionally slip away to the holodeck to just experience the ice briefly, it hurts her more then calms her. Aside from skating, Zara loves to paint. Not as gifted an artist as her brother, she still does find serenity in the act. A recent new dog owner, Zara is the proud new mama of Moxie, a spitfire Italian Greyhound with a mind of her own.

Personal History Once asked how her parents met, in early 2351, Azara Jordyn joked it was through the haze of something a little stronger then Synthol. Born on Argelius II to Nahala Lumar, Zara and her twin brother Zabar's beginning was not without drama. While on shore leave, then Major Anthony Jordyn and Nahala had a brief, tumultuous affair. Less than two weeks after meeting he returned to his duties on the USS Paris, leaving an unknowing Nahala pregnant with twins. As soon as Nahala met her new babies, she willingly embraced the unplanned motherhood. A violinist with the Argelian Symphony, she took time off to throw herself into motherhood and devote her time solely to her babies.

From the start, Zabar and Zara possessed two distinctly different personalities. The more laid back and content of the two, Zabar favored their mother. Zara, however, knew she was different. Even as a toddler, she was much more adventurous, keen on getting into anything and everything. As she grew a little older and her personality blossomed, Zara also became the more aggressive of the two, sarcastic quips coloring her language and the occasional tussle getting her in trouble. To a human, Zara's behavior would've simply been viewed as a phase or even growing pains. On the peace-loving planet of Argelius II, however, her behavior was viewed as almost deviant. At six, Zara was already in intensive therapy, by seven, Nahala couldn't deal with it anymore and be ready to institutionalize the young child.

While Tony was aware of his children, he had never taken an active role in their lives, figuring Nahala was much more suited to parenthood. However, when word reached him of Zara's fate, he made the decision to take primary custody of her. Not believing shipboard life was the answer either, Zara was sent to live with his parents on Earth. Lucas and Sophia happily took the girl into their home. Where Zara felt out of place on Argelius II, she felt equally misplaced among human society. Sophia tried to put the shy, withdrawn child at ease by smothering her with love and attention. It was the first time Zara ever felt truly loved and accepted, but it still didn't help her fit in with her classmates. The girl that once teased others was now the victim. As the defensive coordinator for the University of Notre Dame football team, Lucas thought getting Zara involved in some form of sports would give her more self confidence as well as help her fit in. Unfortunatly, it took a few tries to find the right match. Her attempt at soccer was met with disaster. Before the game was halfway over, she was picking up the ball and handing it to opposing team members, afraid to hurt anyone's feelings. Softball went slightly better, but only because the crowd was amused by Zara's tendency to crouch and duck every time the ball came anywhere near her. Finally, Sophia suggested figure-skating as it would allow Zara to still interact with others while being independent. It would also incorporate the artistry that seemed to come so naturally to Argelians.

From the moment Zara put skates on and shakily made her way to the ice, she seemed to blossom and come alive. Skating became not only her life, but her entry into human society. She learned the importance of dedication and discipline, and learned to trust in herself. Her confidence grew as did her group of friends. Nahala even loosened her hold on Zabar and allowed him to visit Earth for two weeks every summer. Despite their differences, the two twins remained close. Tony as well started making more of an effort and spent his shore leaves visiting his family in Indiana. By the time Zara was 17, she was ranked as number four on Earth, and even qualified for the Olympics. At the time, it was the most terrifying experience of her life but became one of the most rewarding. For the first time, Zara truly understood what it meant to utilize her dual heritages. She was able to draw on the determination and fight from her human blood. Her Argelian blood provided the sense of calmness and peace she felt stepping out onto the ice mixed with the artistry and grace that came so naturally. By the end of the artistic program, Zara had clenched the bronze medal.

By the time Zara graduated from high school, she had already decided she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and join Starfleet. She knew it would be a challenge, but she believed she was ready for it. At first, the Academy was like being new to Earth all over again. Not the most aggressive of people, she found herself fading into the background. Her intro to tactical analysis professor however took an interest in Zara. Professor Maxwell Davis saw a spark in Zara. Though she wasn't as outgoing as some of her fellow classmates, he took notice of the intent way she took everything in, and the meticulous way she completed all of her work. With the added support of Davis, combined with her settling in on her own, Zara soon fell into the rhythm of Academy life. She excelled in both communications and flight control. Classes such as interspecies protocol, xenolinguistics, and survival strategies intrigued her, while anything involving engineering provided many a sleepless night as she tried to make sense out of what she swore was a foreign language. She joked that she could fly it, but don't expect her to fix it. By the end of her four years, Zara was fully prepared to join the ranks of Starfleet officers and did her family proud by graduating in the top ten percent of her class.

Instead of taking a shipboard assignment, Zara spent her first year as a new officer assigned to Starfleet Headquarters working as Rear Admiral Abigail McKlintock's yeoman. Though intended to allow her the opportunity to train for the upcoming Olympics, it, in fact, proved to be a test of Zara's nature. Dubbed the Ice Queen of Starfleet, McKlintock was notorious for going through yeomen like a bag of targ rinds and sending even the most seasoned officer shaking. Zara once again was grateful for her Argelian blood as the more demanding and even irate McKlintock grew, the more calm Zara seemed to become. By the end of her tenure with the admiral, she had won the silver medal in figure skating, but that was nothing in comparison to the grudging respect she'd earned from McKlintock.

With as glowing a recommendation as McKlintock had ever given, Zara was next assigned to the USS Alabama as a communications officer. She served two years aboard Alabama before being assigned to the flight control department. Flying made Zara happy. It was the Starfleet equivalent of how she felt on the ice, free, yet totally in control. She served another year aboard the Alabama before being reassigned to the USS Lexington as their assistant flight control officer. After three years, Zara had worked her way up to chief flight control officer. During this time, she also took and passed the bridge officer exam.

Shortly after passing the bridge officer exam, Zara was reassigned to Starbase 11 as their assistant operations officer. Operations seemed a natural fit to Zara. It allowed her to combine everything she'd learned and experienced thus far. While Zara's professional life was thriving, her personal life had never been much of a priority for her. However, a fateful meeting with the science chief of SB 11 changed that. Lieutenant Commander Harrison Devereaux was instantly drawn to Zara and her funny, quirky personality. It became a battle of wills, with Zara intent on ignoring Harrison, and Harrison working hard to catch her interest. Finally Zara caved, and it wasn't long before the two were seriously involved in a relationship. Two years later she'd worked her way up to the chief operations officer, and Harrison proposed.

What should've been the happiest time in Zara's life was soon snatched away by tragedy. Shortly after their engagement, Zara was reassigned to the USS Fairfax as their chief operations officer and 2XO. Also on the Fairfax was Harrison's younger brother, Dr. Jackson Devereaux, the ACMO. Shortly into her tour of duty, the Fairfax came under attack by Nausicaan pirates. Tasked with evacuation measures, Zara watched in horror as many of her friends and fellow officers were wounded and killed. By the time the Fairfax had regained control of the ship, nearly half the crew had lost their lives, including Jackson. Zara, though wounded, saw the evacuation through. By the time she received medical help, the doctors believed the best course of action would be amputation of her left leg. Zara was transferred back to Earth to undergo physical therapy. On top of dealing with her own injury, she also received a blow from Harrison. Though intellectually he knew it wasn't Zara's fault, he just couldn't rectify himself to the fact she'd been unable to get Jackson off the ship. Harrison broke off their engagement, and left Zara when she needed the support most.

Her family however rallied around Zara. After six months of intense physical therapy, she was ready to return to active duty. Starfleet however had other ideas. Instead, Zara was assigned to Starfleet Academy to teach the class that once so inspired her, intro to tactical analysis. For a year, she taught Academy freshmen the basic concepts of such famous flight plans as the Picard maneuver as well as the Riker maneuver. In a way, it allowed Zara to regain confidence in herself, and once again trust in her abilities. After seeing her group of freshmen through, Zara was once again ready for active duty. She can't wait to see what the future holds, and is ready to face it head on.

Since completing her one year assignment at the academy, she was posted to Starbase 12 to act as their Chief of Tactical. She accepted her assignment and soon grew to like it, quickly coming to love her work. She was promoted to Commander in early 2388 and was assigned command of the USS Crossbow and later in very late 2391, she was promoted to Captain. Where she remains to this day as commander of the tactical department but due to a lack of perosnel availible, she was promoted to command Starfleet Tactical in IFO.
